Brendan Rodgers; "I was born into Celtic"

It's reported here that 30% of UEFA's payments are directly shared among the players in Maribor.

This is a thing to consider when one sees clubs from smaller/poorer environments "overachieve" in qualifications for CL. There are clubs where players play for a bonus bigger than their annual wage.

Rodgers is sorely mistaken if he thinks that kind of bonus isn't going to be an incentive to Anderlecht players (if true)
I could be promised a million pound bonus for beating Anderlecht, or PSG, or Munich or whomever.

It doesn't mean I can actually do it!

From our accounts, you can see that bonus payments were quite high last year. But if you have to use money, over and above (what I presume are) high salaries at Anderlecht...then you have bigger motivational and morale problems.

Win bonuses don't win games. Effective management and committed, capable players do.

we're on big bonuses too. We just don't talk about them .
I know, and that rather than any "prestige" will be at the forefront of the players minds.

Can work both ways.

When that much money is at stake - as in, your own money, not your club's money - there's a lot more pressure on you.

Seriously though. Okay, you can say what you want, Anderlecht in disarray and maybe not the best side, but when is the last time we went away in Europe and dominated in possession and looked the more technical side. Been a while, and it's all down to that man Rodgers.

We killed them.

That's Europa League opposition right there. They made the last eight last season and were unfortunate not to beat Manchester United.

Provided we don't beat Bayern to second, who knows what can happen in the Europa...

We've played much worse teams with better Celtic teams and not won.

Tonight a great result and the possession stuff is completely the reason for it.

I thought before the game that this would be massive for our future. We would never get a better chance to go away from home in the Champions League and impose our usual game on the team and we did. This is such a big win not only for the group but for the years to come.

Apart from a nervy start the team carried it out to a tee. Patietly passed it around when they sat deep looking to hit us on the break. Started opening them up when Boyata and Simunovic began playing excellent long passes in to the feet or Rogic and Sinclair turning their midfield. Got the first with a lovely through ball on to an overlapping full back. Saw out their early second half pressure and got another two off of good pressing high up pitch.

It's everything you hear him talk about.

Not getting carried away into thinking we're going to beat Bayern. I've watched Anderlecht for weeks now and they've been incredibly lucky not to come across a good side. When they have on 2 occasions, they've taking a bit of a beating. That's no slight on us, but a testament to how much more of a "European" side we are nowadays. We've toiled and lost to far worse teams away.

I do, however, stand by my opinion that we have a chance of making a real impact in the Europa League if that's where we're headed. Any team who can go out and play with that level of technique and control away from home at this level can win it.

The turnaround from the Deila years is simply staggering and it's all down to one man. A truly special manager.
