Hard to believe how good a managerial appointment this has actually been.

Takes over a ramshackle team - with some decent raw ingredients - negotiates qualifiers with Janko, O Connell, into the CL. Win the invincible treble. Beating the huns 5/6 times ( 2 x 5-1 victories)
Second lot of qualifiers again minus key players in defence, right wingers as Forwards gets us through with four goals to spare.

Add in Dembele, Sinclair, Ntcham, the improvement in about 20 players. The style and mental fortitude of our game. All in about 14 months.

It's mental. Absolutely unbelievably mental.

Excellent post.

Add in the unprecedented steamrollering of Scottish football - unbeaten in all competitions over a year after he was appointed.

Now adding in youth players to the mix.

And lets be honest, this has all been achieved on a very small budget overall. Read somewhere the other day Celtic's wage bill hasnt increased. Signings are large by Scottish standards, but peanuts in European terms.

It was the dream appointment for Celtic - the guys a effing genius.

Looking online for his picture for the living room.

There is genuinely no way Brendan's appointment could've went any better, Celtic are once again the club we should always strive to be, it was utterly depressing for a few years there, from 2013-16 it was a hard stretch, I only missed about 8 domestic games in that period and the apathy that had set in, particularly at home was worrying, I couldn't see us hitting the heights of the MON era again in terms of quality and attendance, I felt the club played it far too safe and took the support for granted, signing Brendan changed that in an instant, the transformation in our club in 14 months has been phenomenal.

The thing that gets me is the football.

What he has achieved so far in concrete results has been incredible. Back-to-back Champions League qualification, the treble, unbeaten in his first domestic season.

But to do all that whilst inculcating the squad with a completely new way of playing football is remarkable.

You have to give yourself a wee shake, sometimes. This guy is actually our manager. OUR manager.

We are very, very lucky indeed to have him.

Good point. There seems to be a perception that we dodged a bullet in not appointing David Moyes. Well, maybe: it still seems to me to be entirely possible that Moyes could have put together a team good enough to steamroller the rest of Scottish football, and have a puncher's chance in the odd European game. But the football would have been no more than functional at best.

(In this parallel world Brendan Rodgers accepted the Sunderland job, was dragged down by the toxicity of the club, and is now out of work.)

There were people on here, just over a year or so ago telling us that the modern day manager is irrelevant and squads essentially 'manage' themselves.

Brendan has thankfully sunk said argument forever.

What he's done here is truly remarkable. It really can't be said enough.

I have been utterly gobsmacked by the influence of BR. We can only hope he enjoys it as much as we are enjoying him.

I'm the first to laugh at how over the top Celtic fans often get about players etc. Saying a guy has "shades of Messi" or whatever is daft. However I have absolutely no doubt whatsoever that BR would be getting more out of that City side than Pep has been able to so far...

the overriding impression he gives in everything he does for the club is that he a genuinely good guy who is trying to do the best by all :worthy:

so far removed from what some of us inc myself got from watching the liverpool series and reading their supporters' comments

sometimes maybe certain clubs and managers just click

Need to admit how wrong I got him to be honest. He came across as a try-hard who was putting on a kind of fake Mourinho-style arrogance. However, a guy in his 30s who'd had an up and down management career gets handed a job at one of the big dogs in England - with a mangled squad, weird owners, and excessive expectation. With no playing career to gain respect from and probably knowing namechecking Mourinho from Chelsea would only get him so far, he tried to put on an air of authority that just didn't sit right with most fans. I listen to a few Liverpool podcasts and most of them have remarked about how much better he comes across now.

Liverpool was a wee bit too soon, and I think he felt the need to try and win the fans over with soundbites. He won everyone over with tremendous football in 13-14, then went back to the soundbites. Up here, though, he isn't trying to cover for a lack of experience - he can just be Brendan, the excellent coach who manages the team he supports. I thought he was a false bastard when he was at Liverpool and it did leave a negative impression. Shows you how much I know  . He's a good guy, and a genuine person. Sorry for talking shampoo about you last year Brendan!

Liverpool fans have short memories. Ask them about him now and all you get is "Yeah but he had Suarez." Suarez himself has said he wouldn't be the same player without BR. He also got he most out of an essentially finished Gerrard, and Sterling has never captured anything like the form he had at Liverpool. Had a couple of dodgy results in Europe and against the top 4 sides but was a bawhair from winning the league. They'll be lucky to get fourth this season going by showing so far.

Not that I'm complaining!
