Fitting that Steven Gerard was doing the punditry last night. If he hadn't slipped and fell on his arse against Chelsea, Brendan probably wouldn't be at Celtic. 🤔

Not to get ahead of myself but I genuinely think BR will end up eclipsing Stein.
Way ahead of yourself and won't happen - Brendan will see out his contract (all being well) and will leave  - We also won't win the Big Cup.

We have a top,top Manager who is Celtic through and through which is the main reason he is here - Don't forget this man could easily double his salary and more down South - He is on record he had four offers before the Celtic job but none were for him - He has worked miracles since he came here again mainly with Deila's squad and under him we were regressing - Last season's success brought the real kerching into the Club and now he has got the Board that financial security again for this season - We absolutely MUST back this Manager as best we can and the Club and everybody to do with the Club including most importantly the Celtic Support will reap the benefits as they already are - For once we have to build from a position of strength and we have the Manager to more than help us do so.

Can't be done. Even if Brendan goes on to win more more trophies it wouldn't eclipse what Jock Stein achieved for us.

Naw.

Rodgers will probably take us to 10 in a row, and maybe more, but he won't have won them all himself as Lennon & Deila started the run. The financial odds are so stacked against us nowadays that the chances of us winning the CL again are minuscule, let alone of us being one of the dominant forces in European football for the best part of a decade as we were under Stein.
It would take a seismic change in football for us to be able to compete against the Chelsea's, Man City's, real Madrids etc which just does not look like happening.

If he takes us to a Europa league final then that would be achievable I think.

Didnt know where to post this, but I read on twitter that we haven't conceded a goal in our european campaign yet... 5 games.

In fact, adding in our 3 league games too we've only conceded 1 goal in our 8 competitive games altogether.

Compare and contrast with our defending against Molde and Malmo under Deila.

The biggest difference in our defending is seen in the possession stats.

We keep the ball very, very well now.

Long term I think the impact Rodgers is having on our squad, and the way we play the game could lead to a serious upturn in the fortunes of the Scottish National Team, especially if we manage to turn a few of our academy players in to first team regulars

The other big difference is our pressing.

do you reckon theres a chance Brendan will be here longer than the period of his contract? Really would love that but I guess every manager has a cycle

I think 4 years will be it unless we are qualifying every year and there is continued investment then he might extend.

The one thing that goes in our favour is having a young side which will continue to get better. If it was an ageing team that needed rebuilt then it would be very unlikely.

Here's hoping

Part of us keeping the ball so well is that we've started to show a regular, consistent ability to actually control the ball first time. For years we've seen passes bouncing off our players because they couldn't trap a bag of cement, but you rarely see that now. It seems like a small thing but it makes a huge difference to our ability to play at CL level.

I agree that it's that sort of thing that I reckon will be Rodgers' biggest legacy in the longer term. Coaching our players to be able to play at the highest level, not just getting by through sheer willpower as has occasionally been the case in the past (for some of our players anyway), but through actually being able to play good football.

I would very much doubt it but you never know I suppose - If things really progressed very positively and he thought he could take us even further from there we might have a shout but I think we would need to get out of the SPL  for that to happen tbh - Then we would be talking a whole new ball game in terms of revenue streams.

Indeed. So many times yesterday players were shouting for the ball with two men around them (Brown and Ntcham particularly) completely confident they could control, turn and pass quickly. Changed days form a few years ago and absolutely key to doing well in Europe.

It's remarkable to see a Scottish team with such possession stats in Europe, and it happens in most of our matches now.

Also wonderful to have heroes again, players kids can dream about being and the rest of us are desperate to pay to watch. Apart from Nakamura and a couple of standouts under Lenny those have been thin on the ground ever since MON left.

It was the biggest issue with Ronny's team. No heroes. In fact, I was growing to dislike the players we had under Ronny

EDIT: okay, maybe not the biggest issue, but you get my point

By my reckoning only Sinclair and Ntcham were brought in by BR and the rest of the players who started last night were already there. The turnaround is incredible in just over a year, all down to Brendan and the coaching staff

I used to listen to Ronny Delia and for all the criticisms , I broadly found common ground in his post match interviews . He was saying the stuff I was thinking.

With Brendan , I listen to him and he takes the discussion to another level of what you didn't fully think about. He is operating at high level in his profession. We are very lucky to have him.
