Manager Brendan Rodgers wants Celtic to revise travel arrangements, with striker Leigh Griffiths having been heckled at Glasgow Airport.

Griffiths was confronted - and responded verbally - as the team flew out for Wednesday's Champions League qualifier against Rosenborg.

Rodgers said he had not heard of the incident with the Scotland forward.

"Incident or no incident, it's something we can look at that allows us to travel safely," he said.

"The club knows my feeling on our travel and the organisation with that.

"That's something that's internal for us and, with the help of Glasgow Airport, we can maybe get something more suitable.

"Any team in any airport in the world, if you're going from the first entrance of the airport right the way through to the room where you have to pass every element in the airport, every restaurant, every bar in a busy period, of course there's always a risk.

"If there was an incident, it's certainly not something that we would want and not something that a team or anybody else should have to go through."

Griffiths missed the 0-0 first leg of the third qualifying tie through suspension and was an injury doubt for the return in Trondheim.

However, the Scotland international is expected to play some part in Norway and Rodgers remains confident his side can reach the play-off stage.

"The players who played last week were fantastic," he said. "The way in which we played, we lacked that wee bit of cutting edge at the top end of the field, but the mentality okay.

"If you can't score, you don't concede, knowing that we can come here and score goals.

"We kept a clean sheet and that going into the second leg is very important.

"I said before the game to the players, it won't be won last week. There's still another half to play in Rosenborg."

Rodgers played without a recognised striker at Celtic Park in the absence of Griffiths and the injured Moussa Dembele, but a 5-0 thumping of Sunderland in Saturday's friendly at the Stadium of Light showed they can find the net without them.

"We anticipated that the two games would be tough in their own right," he said. "We know, when we play our game, we can score the goals that we need to qualify, but we respect Rosenborg.

"They have good quality, they play with a good idea of football and they'll present a real tough opponent for us.

"The confidence my players would have gained from the group stage last season has really developed them as a team.

"Okay, physically we're a little bit behind maybe some of the opponents you play in qualification, but it's what you have to deal with and we have to find a way through."

thought it worth it copying this in here aswell. really good points about keeping the ball especially after tommy wrights scomments earlier in the summer about expecting every team in the tournament to be technically better than his.

Quote:

HIS head was spinning so much he felt like it was inside a tumble drier.

His heart was pounding so hard it was like it was beating in his skull.

This time last year Brendan Rodgers was gripped by the nerves and tension of Celtic’s Champions League qualification.

But that was on the inside.

Outwardly, the Northern Irishman kept his true feeling hidden from the watching world and, crucially, his players out on the pitch.

Keeping the players calm on the ball meant he had to be calm on the touchline.

Twelve months on he expects a nervy night in Norway, with Rosenborg standing between his team and the play-off round.

But Rodgers said: “With me, I just feel you have to think clearly. Inside you can be like a tumble drier.

“In Be’er Sheva a year ago there was no calmness. That was a test. My heartbeat was in my head that night.

“That night we just couldn’t pass it. We just tried everything in that game.

“But that’s an example of nervousness from a team which hasn’t qualified for a time, trying to find a new way of working.

“But there’s night and day difference now.

“The best way to cope is to have the ball, press hard, be aggressive and just do your best.

“We all know the consequence if we don’t. We want to win, but we will do it as a process.”

It’s simple. Keep calm and keep the ball. Lose the head means losing possession.

And how many times have we seen that with Scottish teams down the years?

Rodgers added: “You have to be calm. But that’s down to the nerve of the coach. It’s the nerve of the managers.

“If they get under pressure and they put that pressure on to the players then naturally the players will get rid of it.

“But you want your players to pass it and there’s a difference between getting rid of it and passing it.

“In Scotland you like to get rid of it. Most teams, not every team, but that’s what you try and do.

“Then you wonder why, 20 years later, you haven’t qualified for a World Cup.

“So there has to be an ability for coaches to accept pressure and get your teams to play.

“If not you’ll be crying every year, asking ‘Why are we not technically good enough?’.

“Because you encouraged them to get rid of it and not pass it.’

Rodgers feels calm because he believes in his players and what they’re capable of.

He said: “You have to. You have to come into these games and feel that if you can impose your game, you can work well. They are never easy and you can never come away from the pressure.

“You can’t run behind a tree and say there is no pressure because there is. But how you regulate the pressure is important. And how you distribute that flow of pressure.

“That’s for me to worry about in the players I send out to play.

“But in our last two games in the Champions League, the Man City away game and Borussia Monchengladbach before that, we played a good level of football.

“We played with a confidence, scored in those games and could have had more than one goal. It’s just time.

“It doesn’t happen by accident. You have to work on it.

“It’s about growth really. As I said when I first came in, we are trying to create a game that is suited for European football at the top level, not just Scottish football, with all due respect.

“We are imposing a way of working that is for the highest level. For that, it is technique, speed and tactical awareness.

“You can see the players are improving with that all the time and the first leg was a great example. They had patience with the ball.

“Everyone wants to score, but you can’t always do that in these games. You have to be streetwise. Teams are not just going to open up when they know you can score goals.

“You have to work the ball and work the spaces. You might only get couple of chances, so you have to be ready to take them.

“That’s the maturity in the team. That will grow as they play more of these type of games.

“You are never going to be at the top of your game. You can’t be. It’s that stage of the season. It is physically difficult because there’s a mismatch physically.

“It’s a team halfway through its season against a team that’s only starting.

“In some way, you have to find an answer.

“But it’s about staying calm. Our game is based on that.

“To play our game, you have to have nerve. Lots of British players and coaching is based around physical, which is fine.

“You just hope you can pull it all together at this time of the season.”

We were coached to victory. How BR sets us up, strategizes the ties, imposes his vision on the players...the whole thing, just really, really impressive.

Big league coach, no doubt about it.

The man is a god. I wasn't even slightly worried about tonights game or even at any point throughout it. It's confidence levels like the MON days with him just now.

He just made mince meat of a reporter there in the after match presser. "don't ask silly questions"
