Not a reaction to the result tonight but will we see the dreaded 2nd season syndrome. :twitch:

MON 2nd season, retain the league for the first time in 2 decades & put up our best European show in decades beating Juve, Valencia, Porto, Ajax, Rosenborg.

WGS 2nd season, retain the spl, win the league & cup double then go out to the eventual winners in the last 16 of the Champions League.

Lennon 2nd season win the league for the first time in 4 years, Huns go bust.

Deila- fair enough I'll give you that

Rodgers enjoyed brilliant second seasons at Swansea and Liverpool. It was the third and fourth seasons at Anfield that proved his undoing...

This place is mental sometimes.

I don't know what he could have done differently last night
It's not a massive issue and doesn't suddenly make him a bad manager or anything, but the decision to play Rogic upfront last night was a really poor one. Didn't work at all and it only took about 10 minutes to see it wasn't going to work.

He made a bad decision and then took far too long to change things.

I don't think the initial decision was wrong, but it was plain to see early that it needed changed.

Having said that, the players didn't cover themselves or him in glory last night. The system only has a chance of working if the players try to make it work - they didn't. Wouldn't have mattered who was up front last night, the passion wasn't there.

Can't really blame the manager. He had previously stated his desire to bring in quality at the end of last years window, again in January & having failed to do so then said he hoped we would get business done early this summer. None of this has happened as the club always want to spend the bare minimum. We had 2 successive years of CL under Lennon & went on to invest in the cheapest manager available after that. The result of that was inevitable. Really thought things would be different under Brendan & we went into this summer in a fantastic position to make real progress. Our total lack of ambition means we are now 1 defeat away from undoing all the good work. Same old Celtic board I'm afraid.

Thinking that 2 first team strikers is enough is a mistake.

Not addressing our weaknesses, which we've known about for months, is probably a mistake.

He's done incredible but he's not beyond criticism. If we go out at this stage it'll be as a result of complacency, which he'll have played a part in.

We need a 3rd striker and for all folk go on about no-one decent wanting to fill that role, there absolutely must be a guy out there who would love the opportunity to come here and get a sniff of a chance to make it here. There has to be.

I've a feeling we'll sneak through this tie as I've lots of confidence in Rodgers, but I'm absolutely fed up with us gambling with these qualifiers every year. They bang on about them being the most important games of our season to shift tickets, well if that's the case prepare for them properly and allow the manager to spend some dough to make them as easy for us as possible.

He should gave played young Aitchinson up front . We missed an actual natural striker there . Someone who's position it actually is and who's played it consistently, knows where and when to make runs etc . Playing midfielders up front upsets the balance of the whole team.

I disagree.

I have always thought (and posted a few times in here I'm sure) that when you're struggling with injuries the aim should still always be to have as many of your players playing in their best position as possible - within reason, of course.

Moving Rogic up front was the wrong decision because it meant we didn't have a proper centre forward (granted that was always going to be the case) and we didn't have our best creative midfielder because he was playing elsewhere on the pitch.

As usual our lack of activity in the transfer window has/will come back to bite us on the arse.

He should know well in advance of the window what he needs and his targets will have been named and scouted so as soon as the window opened moves should have been made to get these players in early enough to get them ready for the qualifiers, so it looks like either his targets are still with their teams and moves will be made if these players do not make their clubs squad or we are holding off hoping to save a few quid.

Like what has happened before i have the feeling the board have seen us totally dominate the spl and had our big champions league pay out so are reluctant to spend much at all, i am hoping this isn't the case but you would have thought with the injuries and lack of a third striker moves would have been made early on, it wouldn't be like celtic to sit back and hold on to the purse strings rather than plough money in and move further ahead of the pack.......surely they have learned that doesn't work.

I still have 100% confidence in the guy and i am sure he will bring in a few quality and unexpected signings but this board and their past record gives me the fear.

What i will say though is all this carry on with the green brigade and the bad press from it has defo put a downer on things and i am wondering if that had anything to do with the general shampootyness of the fans and team last night.

Someone wrote in the match thread last night that he had a go at Sinclair and (I think) Armstrong, apparently for not doing as they were told during the game.

Any truth?

How do you know it isn't Brendan's decision to wait until the end of the window ?

Big week ahead for him and the club.

I've no idea whose responsibility this summer's transfer activity has been - given that Brendan spoke frequently enough last season about his want for three quality additions I suspect maybe not the manager - but it could prove to be severely shambolic.
Someone deserves a shoeing for getting into this mess

I suspect because altho it will primarily be PLs doing BR will have played along to some degree

Therefore no shoeing

If however despite his on board message BR is not happy then we have far bigger problem looming

Can you elaborate on what mess we are in exactly? We drew 0-0 with a seasoned well-organized team with an excellent CL pedigree and IMO we are still favourites to win the second leg. There is no way we could have bought a CL class striker willing to play third choice to Dembele and Griffiths, so blaming BR or PL for that is ridiculous.

He's certainly not above criticism that's for sure and in hindsight the system didn't work but I don't blame him for trying it. What I was surprised about is how long it took for him to change things, which is very unlike him. It was clear as day Tam was uncomfortable in that role and he should have been dropped back into the hole sooner. Was shocked it took over an hour of playing time for BR to realise that. Hopefully he'll give us a master class to get us through next week.

There was enough people suggesting he play formation before the game. I suggested before the game that we opt for Hayes up front (occasionally switching positions with Sinclair and Forrest) and Rogic deeper in place of Ntcham. Maybe a stronger, more aggressive midfield was the better option earlier on in the game in terms of keeping it tight.
