I don't think many folk are upset just a bit bemused and feel that it's a bit unprofessional.

I treat it the same way as when we let Shearer score a penalty against us. It doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things but doesn't quite sit right with me.

Will be a quiz question of the future.
What would the question be?
Probably a picture of him and 'who is this?' Similar to the thread currently popular on this very forum.

There's folk sitting smoking at pitch-side pasting tables.

I wouldn't have seen a problem with Brendan putting himself on for ten minutes.

It's a bit strange. If it was at Sevco we'd be calling it out for being unprofessional.

Edit: I didn't realize his son was actually a professional player. Don't see any issue if that's the case.

Reading this thread about Anton going over with the team, looking at all the arguments back and forth and the opinions...

I must admit, I am in the 'dont like it' camp. It does feel slightly irrational that it annoys me he's taking his son on the preseason tour with him... might just be my jealousy manifesting itself that brendans no my da and that am no allowed to go train with them (even at 33). But looking past that, it just doesn't feel right.

Then I read that he actually played, and its irked me more.

I'm all for letting players use our facilities and train on occasion to help them prepare for their next move, in a similar vein to how he allowed Paul Hartley to come to Lennoxtown to observe training when he left Dundee. But what next? Is he going to let Hartley take the reins for the second half of one of our friendlies? Naw. And neither should his boy be playing any time for the team - friendly or not.

Its awrite because Chic Charnley played at Old Trafford  We knocked back the ICC type friendly cash this year as apparently it was important to have good prep for the CL qualifiers, so I don't think you can then compare these games to testimonials.

aye because of the dates of the games being during the qualifiers, if they were in the next 3 weeks we would be cashing the cheques asap

I don't agree. Lots of good guys got a chance because of their Das. Kirsty Gallagher, Luke Skywalker, Jesus of Nazereth.

His boy is probably a Celtic fan, out of contract and looking for a club, needing to keep his fitness up. Why not give him a wee run out in a friendly?

Can't possibly imagine why anyone would be bothered about this.
The game was on a farm, it's difficult to comprehend folk being upset about this, embarrassing even.

Should have had the whole team done for match fixing for that scandal.

Still raging about it

If Chic Charnley can wear the hoops in a friendly in front of 70,000 people at Old Trafford, Rodgers Jnr certainly can in front of two men and a dog in a practice match in Austria. If there's a lesson to be learned here, it's that these types of games should be played behind closed doors with no TV cameras present.
That was a testimonial game, completely different.

It does seem a bit of an odd one but I can't say I'm overly bothered. Didn't know he had a son who was a professional footballer well into his career. If we ended up signing him I'd be concerned.* You wouldn't get the likes of Alex Ferguson or Brian Clough doing that.

As an aside, didn't we play a British Army chef at Old Trafford once when the season was underway (think Chic Charnley also played that night)? Obviously different times but we recovered from that.

*Joking aside, I would be concerned.

Did we not sign him ? We signed 2 'heroes' :ph43r: at the same time did we not? Forget their names.

Gary Holt and Justin Whittle - Macari signings on the recommendation of Paddy Crerand.
