He's not really a trialist though is he? As you said, it's when OUR players work on their fitness. He's not a Celtic player, nor is he likely to become one.

I'm not particularly bothered about it, I just think his inclusion is contradictory to a lot of statements that the manager has made over the past 12 months. I can't see how him being on the bench today benefits Celtic. Can you?
Exactly. This is about us not his son. Coupled with the crap/no signings so far, I'm not impressed. Last season is gone so I'll judge on this season.
Aye, you're right. That treble and unbeaten domestic season mean eff all now that Anton Rodgers is playing in a kickabout in Austria.

If his boy being played let's Peter Sploblawell see exactly who's in charge of football matters, then it's damn fine with me :)

Brendan had been fantastic for us, i think we can all agree.

However, if Caixinha (sp?) Had a journeyman son and was playing him in a preseason we'd be laughing like heck

Rodgers did say he expected one more signing before the qualifiers started. Now we know why he was so confident of getting his man...

Because he'd be likely wearing Joey Barton's old training gear?

We'd be laughing because he's a effing joke. There's no comparison.

I find it hard to get worked up about what we do in a pre-season friendly, let alone what someone else does.

If Rodgers's boy is in the squad - let alone the team - come Belfast on the 14th of July I might be bothered.

Alex Ferguson's son, who eventually found his level as a lower league journeyman, featured semi-regularly for a while for Man Utd in an era when they had everyone from Paul Ince to Roy Keane to Bryan Robson competing for two midfield positions. I think we can forgive Rodgers this one.

If the likes of Eboue, Ajer and Armstrong all have knocks or slight fitness doubts then it makes sense to chuck the trialist in for a bit. It's a far better option than having someone like Brown play a full 90 minutes for no apparent reason. The young players that are there will be the guys the coaches feel deserve it. The youths who are still at home are there for a reason.

He's listed as a trialist. Probably for insurance purposes.

He's a decent wee player, probably good enough for a few SPL sides. No harm done.
