I do.

He shouldn't be involved or playing.
We gave Guillume Beuzelin a game in a friendly v Cork under Mowbray as a favour for his old mate.

WGAF.
You think if he was still managing Liverpool his son would be on the bench in a friendly?

you can't claim everything about the club has to be completely professional and then take your son away for pre-season training while other -paid- players are left behind, and then put him on the bench, whether he gets on or not

it's not a massive deal but it's certainly not very professional

I don't see the big fuss, somebody wins a prize from Magners to be named on the teamsheet at every home SPFL game. This isn't even as big as that, what with it being a pre-season game :ph43r:

Do people actually care that much about this that they are getting annoyed? We gave Andre Blackman a contract ffs. We paid £5m for Scheidt. We'll see how far this goes but the chances of us actually signing Rodgers Jr look fairly slim.

Who is getting annoyed?

I mean, I think even the poster who originally brought this up isn't even really annoyed about, and has said (at least once) that he thinks it isn't that big deal.

It is possible that folk can think something shouldn't be happening without them being dead furious about it or anything.

For what it's worth, I think this is a piece of nonsense as well. Up at Lennoxtown or whatever then aye, but away on a tour and being named on the bench is taking the piss a bit i think.

In his own words: “Between now and the end of the campaign I’ll look at some of the fringe players getting some game-time,” he explained. “There will be some changes but I don’t give up places just for the sake of it.

“If a young player comes in, he has to earn his place in the team. They need to fight for their place and impress in the Development Squad, and if they do well there, then they have a chance.”

And that's the problem. Son or not, other players have been busting a gut for a chance with the first team. He's telling our players one thing and then doing the opposite. His son being there is of no value whatsoever to the team, therefore he shouldn't be there.

Unless I'm missing something and he's actually an amazing talent who has been unlucky so far in his career? Although I imagine it's more likely that he's pish and still managed to end up without a club even with all of the assistance his dad has been able to give him.

Aye. If that's the way things are, it doesn't feel right.

If we're having a serious discussion about Brendan taking his son for pre-season fitness, I have no problem with it. More importantly, I doubt anyone in the team will either.

Not really sure if serious. He said that in April 2017 and was obviously referring to competitive matches up to the end of the season which ended with the Scottish Cup Final on 27 May.

We've started a new season which begins with friendlies when our players - and sometimes trialists - work on their fitness.

He's not really a trialist though is he? As you said, it's when OUR players work on their fitness. He's not a Celtic player, nor is he likely to become one.

I'm not particularly bothered about it, I just think his inclusion is contradictory to a lot of statements that the manager has made over the past 12 months. I can't see how him being on the bench today benefits Celtic. Can you?

It may be contradictory to a statement he made, but not the one you posted. There's obviously a world of difference between competitive and friendly matches.

I will concede I was a little surprised he was on the bench. Its unusual but I genuinely don't see the issue with Anton working on his fitness in the pre-season. He might even be a good player? I simply don't know.

I'm not very impressed by him giving his son a game, or by the club agreeing to it. It benefits nobody except Anton Rodgers, and actively takes an opportunity away from one of our players. Poor decision.

If it sends a message to Ciftci that Anton Rodgers ( who has absolutely no chance of signing for us) has more of a chance to play for us than Ciftci has himself then I'm all for it.

Exactly. This is about us not his son. Coupled with the crap/no signings so far, I'm not impressed. Last season is gone so I'll judge on this season.
