I always wonder how most fans define "progress in Europe." If it's centred around the Champions League, both WGS and Neil took us further than MON did and I reckon BR can do that too. But MON also reached a European final and that makes his record look much better despite the fact that the run to Seville was just a consolation prize after failing to qualify for the group stages of the CL. I find it to be a real quandary - logically, reaching the CL knockout phase ought to be hands-down a greater achievement than "slumming it" all the way to the final of the second tier competition. To me, though, it just doesn't feel that way. I've long felt that our ideal European campaign consists of winning all our home ties in the CL group stage, narrowly missing out on finishing second*, dropping into the Europa League and going on to win that tournament. Moreover, I believe that's a totally realistic possibility for Celtic whereas it would need something close to a whole series of miracles for us to win the big cup again. I note that Ajax are likely to reach this year's EL final (hopefully against Celta Vigo!) If they can do it, I think Celtic are definitely capable of the same and I bet BR thinks that as well. At least, I hope he does. *preferably because it later emerges in a criminal court that our Italian opponents only pipped us in the head-to-head by bribing the ref in our final away tie. |

Agreed. I'd much rather win the Europa League than reach the quarters of the CL. The last 16 would a great achievement for us but that'd just be 2 more games. The Seville run was so much more exciting than 2 matches against Milan or Real. Potentially the semis of the CL would be a different matter but our chances of reaching the final of the EC must be higher than the semis of the CL. I don't see that as being out of reach under Brendan within the next 2 years either. |

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2017/05/03/mario-balotelli-fires-back-brendan-rodgers-best-player-joke/ Mario Balotelli has hit back at to Brendan Rodgers after the Celtic manager jokingly claimed the striker was the 'best player' he had managed. The former Liverpool manager was speaking at Celtic's Player of the Year awards ceremony when he was asked to pick the greatest player he has had the pleasure of managing. Despite working with stars such as Luis Suarez, Steven Gerrard and Philippe Coutinho, Rodgers gave a tongue-in-cheek response, insisting Mario Balotelli was the best he had coached. The Italian striker scored just one competitive goal in his ill-fated season at Anfield and Rodgers' joke at his expense soon came to the attention of the 26-year-old, who is currently enjoying a return to form with Ligue 1 side Nice. Mirroring his former manager's sarcastic response, Balotelli wrote on Twitter: "Brendan Rodgers you are also the best manager I ever had. Amazing." Follow Mario Balotelli ✔ @FinallyMario Brendan Rodgers you are also the best manager I ever had😂😘😘. Amazing. 12:35 PM - 3 May 2017 13,916 13,916 Retweets 27,368 27,368 likes Rodgers brought Balotelli to Liverpool in August 2014 for a £16m fee, which the Liverpool manager later described as a bargain. However the former Inter Milan striker failed to live up to his price tag, scoring just once before being loaned back to AC Milan. Balotelli famously called former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher a "wonderful hater" and a "bad player" after the Sky Sports pundit celebrated Italian's free transfer to Nice at the start of this season. |

Nominated for manager of the year. On the verge of a season of unprecedented dominance. No doubt the SFA will give it to Jim Duffy. http://www.celticfc.net/news/12543 |

I don't actually think Lenny has had a great season. With a game to go Hibs are on the same points total that took them to 3rd place last season. Maybe getting to the cup final would have meant he merited it but not just for winning a league in which they were massive favourites. Duffy has done really well as has Jack Ross. |

Really don't know why folk get so worked up about Manager of the Year awards, Rodgers and Lennon probably don't give an eff as long as their teams are delivering. |

Despite domestic success, the feeling of malaise was rife amongst myself and many of the supporters during the Deila era but Brendan has injected a much needed interest in the club once more. I've never been this invested in Celtic for years. Now let's go all the way and top off an already wonderful season with a treble!
