That chat gets me positively excited. I'd imagine the success of Moussa feeds into this. What is annoying is that it's something that almost all of us have pointed out over the years* but PL seemed increasingly reluctant to do so until BR showed up.

* Spending that little bit extra on a very highly sought after and highly regarded youth player will eventually pay for itself and then some (Van Dijk, Ki, Moussa etc.)

By the sounds of that interview looks like we may be taking a bit more interest in the South American market

Pato, Coutinho and Neymar were exceptional talents, playing first team football at about 15 and 16 years of age. They won't have been hard to find.
But BR obviously trusts and respects his judgement. That's good enough for me.

I'd rather we avoided that market for players, btw. Plucking a young boy from Sao Paolo or Rio and having him train at the foot of The Campsies in winter would be a shock to their system, I think.

The timeline of Coutinho I can by but Neymar and Pato were well known.

Pato is 4 or 5 years older than both and was in the AC Milan team from 2006 or 2007? onwards. :suspect:

edit - never mind, just checked BR's wiki, he left Chelsea in 2008, so Congretons timeline on all 3 could be correct.

Been a fair few Brazilians & Argentinians that have done well in Russia, Ukraine, other eastern European countries and also Germany. The climate here isn't to bad. Not saying its very easy to settle in Scotland or Scottish football but we should definitely be looking at the south american market. If the player is good enough, fits into the team and of the right character i don't see why not..

My brother in law is full of information about Peruvian players that he thinks Celtic ought to sign, and I'm sure he'd share it with BR gratis if he were ever given the opportunity. Then again he is an advocate of the somewhat non-traditional "4-4-3" formation.

we've heard this several times over the last few years, how we'll spend big on the right player

it hasn't really happened, though rodgers is clearly more influential at the club than the last few managers

one thing is for certain, we ain't buying 18 year old brazilians from inter's reserves for £8.5million

I remember we were sniffing about Bojan in January.

Price was too high I think but he's not done great at Mainz and i'd have thought his price tag would have decreased.

In for him again?

I agree with this, but I think one of the bigger stumbling blocks is that there are loads of Brazilians in Ukraine and the likes playing for different clubs, whereas we're the only team likely to buying in that market (with the exception of Sevco if Pedro decides to go down the EBT route).

Yes, the ones that have been bought for a fair wedge of cash by the likes of Shakhtar and are on megabucks, usually do. (Douglas Costa, Willian, Brandao, Luis Adriano, etc) Since 2010 Shakhtar have spent over €100m on Brazilian players and would be paying them vast salaries. We won't be shopping in that same department.

To get anyone of real talent from that area, without the big clubs knowing about them, would be very difficult. Then there's player's ownership, agent's fees, etc, that usually arise and it would be a right sore head for the club. I just think there would be better value in other parts of the world.
