He named all the Celtic employees in the match programme. However, those who provided him with the list forgot to mention the five employees of the Belfast Celtic Superstore. When it was pointed out to BR he arranged to fly the five over to Glasgow to thank them in person. He's a class act And who will be minding the shop when they are all in Glasgow?

Dunno if its connected to Brendan but James Forrest (the blogger one) on Celtic Blog fb page hinting at another big story to hit later this morning.could be shyte but you never know
Patrick Roberts 3 year deal.
He did a piece about PL's interview in the Herald about 30 mins ago but hardly big or revelatory news given it's already plastered all over a national. Some confusion somewhere along the way methinks... Paddy would have been good right enough I don't think that James Forrest is interested in any Celtic stories.

CELTIC manager Brendan Rodgers is prepared to smash the club’s transfer record this summer in his pursuit of the “game-changer” he wants to propel the club to the next level in Europe. Martin O’Neill twice spent sums of £6million to land Chris Sutton in 2000 and John Hartson a year later, and those fees haven’t been surpassed. Now, with money in the bank after a Champions League return, Rodgers wants to repay the fans for their support with a player who will get bums off seats. He has already mapped out his ideas to powerbrokers Dermot Desmond and Peter Lawwell, who are fully behind his plans. Rodgers said: “We have a very clever board so if we can make an investment of £8.5m, and in two years it can get you £40m to £50m, then I don’t know anyone who wouldn’t do that. “You look at what you can gain against the risk. “There is talent out there and we will always look to get it. Plus, as a Celtic supporter, I know what they want. “They have always had someone with the magic, someone who gets them up off their feet. Hence the reason I brought in Scott Sinclair, who gets them up off their seat. We’ll be looking for that. “There will always be a ceiling, I respect that. It’s not an open cheque book but I feel the board will always do everything they possibly can to get the right type of players in that we want. “I’ve had those conversations, we know exactly where we are with all of that.” Rodgers is confident he will not lose any mainstays from his team this summer ahead of the Champions League qualifiers, which start on July 12. The Hoops will come under pressure to sell Moussa Dembele and possibly even Stuart Armstrong towards the end of the window in August. But Rodgers insists Celtic’s board is not interested in making a quick buck by gambling on a weaker team. He added: “I couldn’t be at a club where the intellect in the board could be any better. “Whatever went on in the past, I don’t know, but all I know from my time here is that the intelligence is dripping out of them.” http://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/790341/Celtic-Brendan-Rodgers-Transfer-news

Brendan Rodgers is confident he can find another Philippe Coutinho as he seeks to provide Celtic fans with a “blue-chip player” at a reasonable price. The Celtic manager has just signed a new four-year deal with the recently-crowned Scottish champions but has stressed the potential significance of Lee Congerton’s arrival last month as a member of his staff. Congerton, the club’s new head of recruitment, worked with Rodgers at Chelsea and Liverpool, and is credited with having found Coutinho, who the then scout recommended to Chelsea. There was another player Congerton also suggested the Stamford Bridge club should try to sign –Neymar. In the end Coutinho signed for Inter Milan but Rodgers was delighted to be able to prise him away when he became manager of Liverpool and the Italian club hit money problems. The Brazil forward is now one of the top players in the English Premier League and is currently being linked with a move to Barcelona. Neymar, meanwhile, headed to Barcelona in 2013 from Santos and is now among the world’s best players. “The reason I brought in Lee Congerton was because he’s one of the best at it,” said Rodgers. “This is the guy who found me Coutinho. No-one would have heard of Coutinho otherwise. “When I worked at Chelsea I remember Lee being away in South America. He came back and told me about two players who were 14 or 15. He said ‘wow, there are two players out there we’ve got to try and
get’. It was Coutinho and
Neymar.” “At that point no-one had heard of them,” added Rodgers. “So the reason I’ve brought Lee in is because of that. Alexander Pato was another one, I remember, that he mentioned. “So I’ve brought in one of the best in his field. Someone who has a worldwide network.” Congerton’s arrival was announced last month and he will head up the club’s recruitment network both at home and abroad. “He can really help us in a lot of markets, to get the best possible players we can,” explained Rodgers, who is confident he will be given the funds to bring in at least three new signings. “But the profile and everything has to be right to fit in with the club. “But Coutinho at 14 was great. He was at Vasco da Gama and Chelsea tried to do a deal, but they’d already done one with Inter Milan. He went there at 16 but I was always aware of him. Then when I was at Liverpool I got the guys to find out about him. Inter Milan were struggling for money and young players very rarely got a chance. So it was an opportunity for us to get him. “He cost £8.5million, that’s what we got him for. What’s he worth now? But no-one knew of Coutinho. But he was in our team at 19 and he flourishes. So there is talent out there and we will always look to get it.” With the Celtic board having shown enough faith in him to hand him a new four-year deal, Rodgers is confident he will be backed in his efforts to re-strengthen this season. He smiled when asked how many new players he wants to bring in. “A manager will always tell you three,” he said. “But it really is a limited amount. The players I’d like to bring in could make a real impact and help the boys here.” Rodgers said he is only interested in “game-changing” players, those who can come in and be relied upon to make a real impact. “I wouldn’t ever just sign a name for the sake of it,” he stressed. “I look at the needs of the squad and try and project the developments of players here. And I’m preparing for another 60-game season. “So I need a good squad, one that’s tight and that’s spirit is good.” “Listen, some will move on naturally,” he continued, with Efe Ambrose, currently on loan at Hibs, one of those whose contract is due to expire at the end of this season. “Some, their cycle will finish here because they might not get the game-time they want,” he said. “Some might want to go on and try something else. That’s natural. “But the number of players I think can help us develop and improve is minimal. There won’t be wholesale changes.” “I think there is still a level of player out there for us who bring excitement,” he noted. “Again, it’ll all depend on what it is for the player. We can’t just pay anything, and I would never ask the club to do that. “I wouldn’t. I’m not here to put the club in a risk. Not at all. I’ll always demand that we sign the best possible players we can. But I understand strategically where the club is at, and how it needs to function going forward. “That’s not lacking ambition, that’s just being real. And also knowing – from being down south for a number of years – exactly the types of players we can attract here. In fact, not even attract. Players we can get here. “Plus, as a Celtic supporter, I know what they want. They have always had someone with the magic. They’ve always had someone who gets them up off their feet. Always. “So I know what they want. Hence the reason I brought in Scott Sinclair, who gets them up off their seat. We’ll be looking for that. “People knew him but they didn’t really know his quality. You look at him now and he’s one of the most exciting talents. If he keeps going he could be in an England squad.” scotsman.com/sport/football/teams/celtic/brendan-rodgers-wants-to-find-another-coutinho-for-celtic

BRENDAN RODGERS believes he won’t lose a single player before the summer’s crucial Champions League qualifiers and is confident he will add to his squad before the first game in July. The Celtic manager on Friday signed a four-year deal and would surely not have done so had he not been given certain assurances from the board about his transfer budget for the next window. Rodgers has actually not spent what he could have during his ten months at Celtic, Scott Sinclair’s £3.5million deal being his biggest spend, and with this season’s Champions League money available, the Northern Irishman is in a strong position regarding who is sold and bought on his watch. Asked if he was confident the key players would still be at the club when the qualifiers begin, Rodgers said: “Yes. I would like to think going into the qualifiers we’ll be a stronger squad. We’ll retain the ones we have and then, touch wood, be able to make the additions we want. “I think there is a real happiness in the group because of how they’re being asked to play and how we work. I think they see the benefits of it. And our goals are beyond this season. “So arriving into the qualifiers, hopefully we’ll be in as good place. We’ll certainly be in a much better place than we were last year. It doesn’t make it any less anxious. Goodness me, but at least we’ll be much better prepared for it.” Top of Rodgers’s list is another striker, Moussa Dembele and Leigh Griffiths are his only two senior players in that position, and there is possibly a conversation to have about Patrick Roberts staying for one more season “A manager will always tell you three when asked how many they want to sign,” said Rodgers. “But it really is a limited amount. The players I’d like to bring in could make a real impact and help the boys here - game-changing players. “I look at the needs of the squad and try and project the developments of players here. I’m preparing for another 60-game season. So I need a good squad, one that’s tight and that’s spirit is good. “Listen, some will move on naturally. Their cycle will finish here because they might not get the game-time they want. Some might want to go on and try something else. That’s natural. But the number of players I think can help us develop and improve is minimal. There won’t be wholesale changes.” There will likely be a clamour among some supporters for a so-called marquee signing to be made given that Rodgers does have decent money to spend. However, for the manager there are more important things than a famous name. “I don’t think of it like that. I wouldn’t ever just sign a name for the sake of it,” he said. “I want a good player. I want a player – however old he is – who wants to still improve, who wants to work hard, who has a humility and who wants to come in and win. “If that’s a blue chip player, great. If it’s not then he won’t be any good here, he won’t be any good. “Blue chip is Celtic, that’s the profile. This is the club and the players who come in come in to work for the club. So it has to be the right type of player. “But my game and the way I always ask the team to play means it’s always going to be a dynamic and exciting and aggressive team. Players who come in have to have that. “Look at Scott Sinclair, for example. Okay, people knew him but they didn’t really know his quality. You look at him now and he’s one of the most exciting talents. If he keeps going he could be in an England squad.” Rodgers already knows how much he has to spend and has had several players scouted in recent months. “I’ve had those (budget) conversations,” he said. “We know exactly where we are with all of that. There will always be a ceiling, I respect that. It’s not an open chequebook but I feel the board will always do everything they possibly can to get the right types of players in that we want. “But it’s always based around affordability. Ultimately you need to know who is available and then you can make your case from there.” eveningtimes.co.uk/Brendan_Nobody_will_leave_Celtic_and_we_will_buy_before_the_Champions_League_qualifiers/

BRENDAN RODGERS insists the talent spotter who found a “little magician” for him at Liverpool can conjure up a similar trick at Celtic. Rodgers has the utmost faith in new head of recruitment Lee Congerton unearthing a gem in this summer’s transfer market as the Hoops look to build from a position of strength. Congerton was chief scout at Chelsea when Rodgers was there as reserve team coach. In 2006, Congerton arrived back at Stamford Bridge following a spying trip to South American and pleaded with Rodgers to try to do deals for two teenagers. One was Philippe Coutinho and the other was Neymar. Politics ensured that the 14-year-old Neymar was already being lined up for a move to Barcelona, while Coutinho’s youth team were on the road to striking a deal with Inter Milan. Yet Rodgers has never forgotten how Congerton was able to make initial contact with the Coutinho camp, and then five years later finally help him land his man at Anfield. Celtic are now in the market for what Rodgers calls a game-changer, someone not unlike the attacker nicknamed the Little Magician by Liverpool fans who idolise his swagger and style. A dream first season at Celtic has whetted Rodgers’ appetite to step up a level next term. With a new four-year contract in the bag, the long-term planning has really kicked in and Rodgers is sure that – in alliance with Congerton – this summer’s transfer exploits will thrill the Parkhead faithful. The Hoops manager said: “The reason I brought in Lee was because he’s one of the best at it. “This is the guy who found me Coutinho. No one would have heard of Coutinho otherwise. “He was at Vasco da Gama and Chelsea tried to do a deal, but they’d already done one with Inter Milan. He went there at 16 but I was always aware of him. “When I was at Liverpool I got the guys to find out about him. Inter Milan were struggling for money and young players very rarely got a chance. “So it was an opportunity for us to get him. We got him for £8.5million – what’s he worth now? “No one knew of Coutinho. But he was in our team at 19 and he flourished.” The first phase of the Rodgers masterplan was to improve the squad he inherited and add a couple of players of his own. Moussa Dembele and Scott Sinclair have been runaway successes, while Stuart Armstrong, James Forrest and Scott Brown have been rejuvenated. Now the second part of his blueprint is about to kick in and Rodgers wants to recruit more players with star quality to the Celtic ranks this summer. The Northern Irishman said: “I want a player – however old he is – who wants to improve, work hard, who has humility and who wants to come in and win. “If that’s a blue-chip player, great. If it’s not then he won’t be any good here. “Blue-chip is Celtic, that’s the profile, so it has to be the right type of player. “We can’t just pay anything and I would never ask the club to do that. I’m not here to put the club in a risk. “That’s not lacking ambition, that’s just being real and also knowing – from being down south for a number of years – exactly the types of players we can attract here. In fact, not even attract – players we can get here.” Rodgers further endeared himself to the Celtic support last week by signing a new four-year deal. He insists he’s in Glasgow for the long haul and hopes his players back his vision. With Celtic’s first Champions League qualifier due on July 12, Rodgers is already eyeing the first big challenge of next term. He said: “We’ll retain the players we have and then, touch wood, make the additions we want. We’ll certainly be in a much better place than we were last year. “It doesn’t make it any less anxious, but at least we’ll be much better prepared for it. “The players I’d like to bring in could make a real impact and help the boys here – game-changing players. “I look at the needs of the squad and try to project the development of players here. “I’m preparing for another 60-game season, so I need a good squad. One that’s tight and whose spirit is good.” http://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/790346/Celtic-News-Brendan-Rodgers-Philippe-Coutinho-Liverpool-Lee-Congerton

Stuart Armstrong will most definitely sign a new contract soon. Is £8m too much for Paddy Roberts? Would he be worth £30m after 3 more years of developing?
I bet Brendan would love to keep him.

Stuart Armstrong will most definitely sign a new contract soon. Is £8m too much for Paddy Roberts? Would he be worth £30m after 3 more years of developing?
I bet Brendan would love to keep him.
If Roberts is the mystery blue chip game changer I'll be pretty underwhelmed tbh. Is there a mystery blue chip game changer?
