Brendan Rodgers

"I will give everything I have and do all I can to bring our supporters exciting, entertaining and winning football," said the Northern Irishman.

"The club has been in magnificent shape in recent years and has collected silverware regularly during this time.

"My objective now, of course, is to continue this work, to keep us at the top and again make our mark in Europe."

Ronnie Deila

"Celtic is in great shape and the club has enjoyed real success in recent years due to the hard work of Neil and his team.

"I want to carry on this work and continue to bring happy times to Celtic. I can't wait to get started on this journey."

Not much point talking about Rodgers' transfer dealings at Liverpool. Don't think he had much of a say. Same as Ronny with us.

I'm sensing your not entirely onboard with this :hmmm:

I'd have no problem with John Hughes as long as BR chooses him and it not a cheap alternative to his normal back room team, if he indeed has such a thing.
It's changed at each club, mate. Well he was with Colin Pascoe twice but not sure if they still talk after the Liverpool fiasco.

Will be really interesting to see who he brings in!
Were Pascoe & a couple of others not binned by Liverpool themselves and they subsequently forced Sean O'Driscoll on BR?
Depends who you listen to on the matter, really mate. One of those ridiculous stories that got really overblown in the press so there's lots of "facts" and stories about it all. Some say he binned them to save themselves, others say he was told to sack them or he was off or - as is most likely - their professional relationship ran it's course. I don't think (anymore at least) that there's anything untoward about it. One of the sacked guys would have been in the press doing a bitchy interview otherwise  .

Mike Marsh was well respected at the club and got binned because, again depending on who you listened to, Brendan "agreed" with the board that he and Pascoe were yes men to him. That they just went with him on the big calls, and thus there was no real coaching development. Pascoe was just viewed as his big pal because of the whole good mates, son and daughter being together thing.

Again, though, it all sounds very spurious and I don't really imagine the Liverpool version of Lawwell and that would get involved in such a manner. I doubt they'd start questioning how his backroom staff worked and then made him sack them.

The other one was that Rodgers was told he either got rid of them and took the board appointed coach (Sean O'Driscoll) or they all went together that day. Again, it's all hearsay. I would be surprised if either of those lads appear at Celtic now though!

What is clear though is that Rodgers, Mike Marsh and Colin Pascoe no longer appear to want together. I don't know what story to believe because they all come with conjecture, so can't say officially. At the time I recall thinking it was snide that he sacked Pascoe and Marsh and stuck on himself but that's all heat of the moment stuff. When I look back, they weren't a long-term coaching team like Klopp has, for example. Pascoe was at Swansea and came with, Marsh at LFC - so you would not expect them to always stick together. However the same problems existed with O'Driscoll and McAllister. It was a horrible situation for Rodgers to be in, looking back. Was no real way to win after it occurred, everything was just so sour it was just another thing to throw at him which was quite horrible to watch.

Basically I think it might be a good thing that he starts a new coaching team up here.

Sorry, I'm rambling a little - had a few drinks and trying to piece it all back together for you  .

Some really nice positive words from Saurez about him tonight. Said celtic has now one of the best managers in Europe :worthy:
where?
I think that is an old article. It was first posted on here a week or so ago, before any decision was made. They've edited it to make it sound like Suarez was responding to BR's appointment, rather than just generally commenting on his experience with Rodgers.

I imagine there will be plenty "Warbs warns Rodgers expect white hot atmosphere etc etc" articles in the press over the next few weeks. They will be desperate to spin this as both clubs having equal calibre of manager.

Too late.

BFDJ "its just like when rangers appointed Mark Warburton".

when they were both at Watford. Brendan was the boss

7-1 is a record that will be broken. Bet on it :arrr:
I would if your name was carnloughbhoy. :naught:
I know it's been a busy day an all but have we got a definitive pronunciation on Carnlough yet? I'm going for Carn-law. But that's just my beautiful soft lilting Derry interpretation.

I'ver heard western Irlsh (Mayo) pronounce lough the way ye' would with loch. So I reckon Carn"loch" would be correct.

By the way, I heard the news thanks to some Tim on the train from Bristol to Cardiff who was talking to his mate on the phone and sounding very happy about it all. If you're reading this, cheers whoever you are
:rocker: A "where were you when..." I remember MON - in the hoose with SKy on. ( And John Barnes...in a B+B after cycling all day in the NE England...couldn't effing believe it  )

But tonight is   :chuffed: :rocker:  :worthy:
I was in the Counting House with the missus when i got the good news - thought we would head to McChuills for 1 on the way to the 240 bus to get a reaction from a few fellow tims - very quiet at the time though except for the 2 hipster barmen having a competition between them to see who had the best musical taste between the White Stripes and The Kaiser Chiefs - didn't even turn the sound on the telly up for the SSN headlines at 6 ..

Glad to be home now and annoying the wife playing the Roses "This is the one" on a constant loop .
