Listening to Brendan regarding managing Celtic and how happy he is doing it and what it means to him makes my heart sing with joy.

we are truly blessed to have a man like Brendan as our manager. I believe he will go down in our history as second only to Mr Stein. And that is some acolade.
Steady on. He's still probably only 4th on the list of Celtic Managers during my lifetime and I'm only 29
He said will go down as second to Stein, not is second to Stein. Who are the three managers better than him in your lifetime? I'm 30 and he's the best Celtic manager in my lifetime so wondering who I've missed off of my list  And yes, he is a better manager than MON. He may not have achieved the same as MON did in his time but he has done something quite incredible with what we all thought was a mediocre squad of players.

I doubt many fans would trade Brendan for MON if they were given the option.
I know what he said. It's still a pretty bold statement after not even a full season.

Wim stopped them winning the 10. MON took them to the cleaners and Strachan won 3 in a row plus 2 last 16s.

Now im not suggesting they were all better managers than Rodgers but their achievements put them ahead for now.

Chick Nicholas has always been an arsehole, went to school with him, he was then and still is now
You might have had my dad as a teacher for a while then, depending on when you went to school with him

(Canny mind if he was in a permanent post or a supply teacher  )

He could eclipse MON achievements, but it's absolutely mental to say he's on a par with MON after 10 months.

MON had a much stronger team during his time at Celtic - but also faced far stronger opposition.

To undo the iron grip Deadco had on Scottish football when he took over was no mean feat - especially as they continued to deploy EBTs to inflate their squad for up to a decade afterwards.

Europe should be the benchmark by which comparisons between the two should be made. At the moment BR's team at that level is still very much a work in progress.

As for BR's quote about making the upper reaches of the Premier League, bear in mind next season a side will return to that division with a comparable fan base to Celtic, huge financial backing and a manager who has won the world's toughest league (twice) as well as the Champions League.

Yet only the most deluded geordies would expect them to finish in the top six..
This is all simply pish.

If a team goes into the EPL, they're allowed to spend money. It happens every year when a team gets promoted. Celtic wouldn't be operating under the financial constraints that we currently do.

Everyone always wonders what this team (whether that's now or MON's team) would do in the EPL. Both would do well, but I'd imagine that MON wouldn't have had the likes of Laursen, Douglas, Vega as first picks and there are a few from our current side who would be on their way. And while the quality of Scottish football isn't great, Celtic would also have to beat some utter tripe in the EPL as well, as it happens.

You have the ridiculous scenario of the guy from Sky asking Brendan Rodgers how to compete with teams in England, given the financial disparity. He should have told McCann live on air that his company should stop ripping the pish out of football in this country with ridiculous money while chucking billions at England, and that would be a start.

The EPL has some massive clubs who would be just that in any era... massive. It also has a load of clubs who have bought their success though dodgy ownership and free money. If it wasn't for the fact that they're the plaything of sheikhs, oligarchs and tyrants some of these clubs would be fulfilling their traditional roles as yoyos, up and down the divisions. And that includes Manchester City, a club famous largely for not winning anything for decades, and Chelsea, whose fans had bucket collections to stop them going bust and, IIRC, were also sold for a quid.

Money makes people's minds turn to mush. Take the money away from the EPL and there's nothing there. The big clubs who have a genuine history and support base will still be there, there rest will be kicking stones out of boredom on the road to oblivion.
hear hear

Charlie Nicholas can hardly string a coherent sentence together at times, let alone offer any real football wisdom.

How he has made a living in football punditry beyond his playing days is just :o

Got an email from dad saying St Columba of Iona

Emailed him back to ask how long and what he taught.

I basically just remember that he used to tell me he had Charlie Nicholas as a pupil when he was a teacher.

I also remember a story about a mouse or rat (live) being flung at the blackboard when he had his back turned once :boxer:

My dad ended up at Columba of Iona after starting out in St Patrick's Anderson just after World War II. He then did some time in the Candy Rock before going to Maryhill in the early 1960s. Wee Charlie was among the last year groups that he taught there. He used to see Charlie very occasionally at our local parish church in Cardowan when Charlie and his parents moved out there to Stepps. CFC also used to do some pre season training at St.Al's spoart grounds at Millerston and Charlie would always say hello to my old man very respectfully
