It's weird how obsessive the idiot element of the English media have become about Scottish football. They seem desperate to put it down at every turn yet offer absolutely no valid points (the bit about Mowbray shows the level of ignorance). I think there's a genuine fear that Rodgers can create something long lasting and meaningful up here that not only boosts Celtics profile but the profile of the Scottish game in general.

I agree, it really seems to have intensified recently. Previously, they didn't really bother with what was happening up here and the complaints would be that there was no coverage. Now they seem to want to stick the boot in.

I'm assuming it's a result of their own teams getting routinely humped in the CL over the last 3 or 4 years.

Probably. When England are exposed as being the serial underachieving nation they are in football their default position is to console themselves that they are better than their smaller neighbour.

Interesting but critical article on Congerton.
What's "critical" ffs ?

It's a Sunderland blogger who doesn't like the car crash scenario his club has even more become in recent years and is firing ammo - We drew against the almighty Sevco who have the best squad in Scotland apparently and yet we didn't like it and most on here including myself are firing a few arrows here and there.

I'd rather trust Brendan Rodgers's take on the guy.
So would I. A bitter Mackem looking for a scapegoat.
Sunderland - the club who backed Adam Johnson to the hilt. Much to be proud of. No wonder they're bitter.

Is there a list of some kind to see who is all away on Intl duty?

I'm thinking only Sinclair will get any real kind of rest - mentally and physically - of the ones who need it
Haven't seen a list of all of them, but I don't think Dembele was called up for the French squad and from what I can see their U21s aren't playing so presumably he's got a bit of a break. Don't think England U21s are playing either so Roberts will have a rest too.

Can't see anything about Simunovic or Boyata being called up for Croatia or Belgium either.
Boyata is definitely in the Belgium squad

I had no idea Roberts still played for England U20s

That only really leaves Sviatchenko, Sinclair, Simunovic, Dembele & McGregor of the regular match-day squad, plus fringe players like GMS, Toure and the reserve goalies, and Rogic doing light work.

Might have something to do with neither of them really cementing their place in our team? :ponder:

Boyata was around a strong Belgium squad when he was pish and didn't have a sniff of a Celtic jersey. They've more or less played when they've been fit. Can't really say any of our CHs have cemented a place due to various reasons.

Anyway I've no idea how good the two teams are in that area so it may well be redundant.

Belgium are a bit weak on centre halves though I think, for all that they have excellent players in most other positions. Didn't they take a guy playing in the Canadian league to the Euros after Boyata pulled out with injury?

What else could they have done, he hadn't even stood trial yet? Innocent until proven guilty and all that.

TBH I don't think any of us knew how serious the Johnson stuff was until it all came out at the trial. The full details of it didn't make the rags until then.

I don't really see what else they could have done with him, until his day in court.

Was it not the case that he had fed them a pile of lies until just before he was found guilty?

Sviatchenko has never been a Denmark regular, he's 25 and not into double figures in terms of caps so seems he's never been fancied.

Jozo's never made any senior international appearances.

Think he said he would be pleading not guilty and then changed it to guilty, making sure he got his wages for a year or two, so he'd have a cushion when he got out the nick. Can't see many other clubs wanting to sign him.

Kinda happy about that tbh. Means they can get rested for the run in.

Denmarks strongest area is central defense

Simon Kjær, Fenerbache
Andreas Christensen, that German team (onloan from Chelsea)
Jannick Vestergaard, that German team
Matthias Zanka Jørgensen, FC Copenhagen
Andreas Bjelland, Brentford

first 3 are better than Sviatchenko, the next two are better with the ball, the national manager fancies that - Zanka can have some "moments" though, but far the best central defender in the Danish Superliga, so he has the focus of the national manager
