Yogi would be a great no2 as he seems to get something extra from players with limited ability just imagine what he could get out of some of our existing lot.

Just out of curiosity.. Was any of the people 'in the know' on the now closed "new manager" thread relatively right / close with the predictions afforded to us? Unsure how to link to my post but copy and paste job.
jmbhoy84 10 May 2016, 09:10 PM Been told at work today to lump on Brendan Rodgers, The guy told me his source and i would think the source would be in the know.

A few hours and a few beers later and this still hadn't sunk in. This isn't the Celtic I've come to know...basically since MON left, but certainly since Strachan was replaced with Mowbray. This is genuinely exciting. Exactly my feeling. Today was such a significant moment, a signal of intent we've been waiting over a decade for.
Tonight it really feels like Celtic again.

Brendan Rodgers' remarkable transfer dealings... from £11.6m at Swansea City to £279.9m at Liverpool FC
Quite interesting, mostly the signings he made in Swansea's first season in the EPL. Just under £9m spent and also got the likes of Caulker and Sigurdsson on loan.

Brendan Rodgers' remarkable transfer dealings... from £11.6m at Swansea City to £279.9m at Liverpool FC 13:49, 23 JUL 2015 UPDATED 14:28, 23 JUL 2015 BY SIMON GASKELL Just how do his expensive dealings at Liverpool compare to his moves in the market while in charge of Swansea City?
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has brought in Christian Benteke from Aston Villa for £32.5m - making the Belgian the club's second most-expensive signing in history behind Andy Carroll.
Following the arrivals of Benteke, Firmino, Nathaniel Clyne and Joe Gomez, it means he has already spent £70m this summer with a tribunal still set to decide a fee for Danny Ings.
In three seasons and four close seasons as Reds boss, his total outlay is £279.9m although that is offset to some degree by departures like Luis Suarez to Barcelona (£70m) and Raheem Sterling to Manchester City.
His record in the transfer market was questioned last season, with Alan Shearer contending that only one of his plethora of Liverpool signings - Philippe Coutinho - had been a success.
But just how do his dealings compare to his moves in the market while in charge of Swansea City between 2010 and 2012?
And how has he adapted from operating on a relative shoestring to having a vast war chest at his disposal?
Below we look back on every transfer Rodgers has presided over during his reigns at the Liberty and Anfield, analyse which players have been hits, which have been misses and how his recruitment has rated overall in South Wales and on Merseyside respectively...
Swansea 2010/11
Scott Sinclair (Eventual cost £1.5m from Chelsea)
Yves Ma-Kalambay (Out of contract)
Kemy Agustien (OOC)
Luke Moore (West Brom £750,000)
Leon Britton (Sheff Utd, £400,000)
Ryan Harley (Free)
Ryan Harley (0 apps) Promising midfielder Harley was signed by Brendan Rodgers in January 2011, but didn't play a Swans game Promising midfielder Harley was signed by Brendan Rodgers in January 2011, but didn't play a Swans game More: Premier League Fantasy Football Guide 2015/16
LOANS
Frank Nouble (West Ham)
Marvin Emnes (Boro)
David Edgar (Burnley)
Jermaine Easter (MK Dons)
Fabio Borini (Chelsea)
Tamas Priskin (Ipswich)
Spend: £2.65m
The signing of Sinclair - a man whose qualities Rodgers was aware of from his time working with him in Chelsea's youth team - was absolutely inspired.
He was the Swans' attacking spearhead, scoring 27 goals in all competitions including the hat-trick that sealed promotion in the 4-2 play-off final win over Reading. The loan for Fabio Borini proved astute business; he chipped in with six goals and won a penalty
Bringing Leon Britton back was just as pivotal with the diminutive midfield man crucial to the possession game Rodgers established.
Luke Moore and Kemy Agustien also contributed though Ryan Harley never played a game and reserve keeper Yves Ma-Kalamby left at the end of the season.
Mostly good business.
Transfer market rating: 8/10
Swansea 2011/12
Michel Vorm (£1.5m Utrecht)
Danny Graham (£3.5m Watford)
Wayne Routledge (£1.75m Newcastle)
Leroy Lita (£1.5m Boro)
Michel Vorm Fede Bessone (Free Leeds)
Jose Moeira (£100k Benfica)
Darnel Situ (£250k Lens)
Gerhard Tremmel (OOC)
Curtis Obeng (Wrexham £200k)
Rory Donnelly (Cliftonville £150k)
Vaneglis Moras (OOC)
LOANS
Steven Caulker (Spurs)
Josh McEachran (Chelsea)
Gylfi Sigurdsson (Hoffenheim)
Spend: £8.95m
Michel Vorm wasn't someone many people knew about when he arrived but he proved himself one of the Premier League's elite stoppers and an absolute steal for £1.5m.
Wayne Routledge also represented good business, especially given the way he has continued to develop as a player and integral part of the Swans' side after Rodgers' departure.
Danny Graham was the marquee signing at the time , costing £3.5m from Watford. With some doubts about how he would adapt to the Premier League, he paid that fee and more back with 12 league goals and was eventually sold for a profit to Sunderland.
Gylfi Sigurdsson had a huge impact after his winter loan and Steven Caulker was assured at the back. In the fullness of time, the £1.5m paid for Leroy Lita and other fees paid for players who were seen as ones for the future did not work out.
But still a brilliant season of signings, especially given so many clubs get it wrong when they are promoted to the top-flight.
Transfer market rating: 9/10
Was Brendan Rodgers a success in the transfer market at Swansea City? YES NO More: Swansea City could have one of the Premier League's best on their hands after penny dropped for Jonjo Shelvey
Liverpool 2012/13
Fabio Borini (£10.4m Roma)
Joe Allen (£15m Swansea City)
Oussama Assaidi (£2.4m Heerenveen)
Daniel Sturridge (£12m Chelsea)
Philippe Coutinho (£8.5m Internazionale)
LOANS
Nuri Şahin (Real Madrid)
Spend: £48.3m
Sturridge, though beset by injury problems last season, has been a massive hit and good value though he may have been thought of as something of a gamble having not previously enjoyed regular football. He has scored 35 goals in 55 Premier League outings and was lethal alongside Luis Suarez during Liverpool's title charge of 2013/14.
Coutinho cost even less but has arguably been even more effective. His capability to run a game and produce the spectacular has earned him international honours with Brazil since signing.
Philippe Coutinho scores first Brazil goal in Copa America warm-up v Mexico in June:
Philippe Coutinho scores first Brazil goal in Copa America warm-up v Mexico in June For many the jury is still out on Joe Allen especially at £15m while Nuri Şahin's loan, while exciting at the time, proved fruitless with the player later suggesting he was played out of positon.
Borini is an expensive misfit. Assaidi only made four Premier League appearances from the bench before a loan to Stoke and exit to the UAE.
Rodgers' first and best season of transfers at Liverpool.
Transfer market rating: 7/10
Daniel Sturridge has scored plenty of goals for Liverpool Liverpool 2013/14
Luis Alberto (£6.8m Sevilla)
Iago Aspas (£7m Celta Vigo)
Simon Mignolet (£9m Sunderland)
Kolo Toure (OOC Manchester City)
Tiago Ilori (£7m Sporting Lisbon)
Mamadou Sakho (£15m Paris Saint Germain)
LOANS
Aly Cissokho (Valencia)
Victor Moses (Chelsea)
Spend: £44.8m
At 22, Luis Alberto still has time on his side but his future is unclear having failed to nail down a place in Malaga's team on loan last year and with next season due to be spent out on loan again - this time at Deportivo.
Aspas was a disaster, not playing many games behind Suarez and Sturridge and flopping in those he did. Won the Europa League on loan with Sevilla last season. They took up the option to buy him before immediately selling him to Celta Vigo, from where Liverpool had initally bought him.
Iago Aspas is back at Celta Vigo Ilori has yet to make his debut. Mignolet was initally thought to have brought stability between the sticks before a loss of form and confidence last season saw Rodgers briefly take him out of the side.
Sakho has not always held a place down in the team or looked the solution to Liverpool's defensive problems when he has played.
Transfer market rating: 4/10
Liverpool 2014/15
Rickie Lambert (£4m Southampton)
Adam Lallana (£25m Southampton)
Emre Can (£10m Bayer Leverkusen)
Lazar Marković (£20m Benfica)
Dejan Lovren (£20m Southampton)
Divock Origi (£10m Lille)
Balotelli record 2014/15
Games James Chester in action for Hull City against Liverpool's Mario Balotelli 28 Goals Liverpool's Mario Balotelli after scoring his side's equaliser to make it 1-1 against Swansea at Anfield 4 Alberto Moreno (£12m Sevilla)
Mario Balotelli (£16m AC Milan)
LOANS
Javi Manquillo (Atlético Madrid)
Spend: £117m
The window in which Rodgers was given the unenviable task of trying to replace Luis Suarez and failed. Champions League qualification can also explain why he spent so big but most of those that came in have yet to make the desired - or any - impact.
Up front Rickie Lambert has had limited game time and looked nowhere near the striker he was at St Mary's since joining his hometown team and Rodgers has been unable to channel Mario Balotelli's talents as he thought he might have done.
Dejan Lovren has been a disaster so far with regular mistakes and lack of composure leading to his loss of place in the team.
Jason Roberts/Liverpool Echo Dejan Lovren after missing the last penalty against Besiktas in the Europa League Elsewhere, Alberto Moreno looks better going forward than he does defending and Lazar Marković was a big disappointment in his first season after starring for Benfica the year before.
Lallana has shown promise in some games - notably against Swansea at Anfield - while Can is obviously a good player though was played in the defence as opposed to midfield at times last season.
Origi could prove to be the best signing of the lot. He has looked dangerous for Belgium and Lille and has returned from his loan in France.
Transfer market rating: 3/10
Brendan Rodgers' spend at Liverpool
