Somehow, I don't think BR would be singling out McGinn as a player, if he had a fancy to sign him?

Just because he said he was a good player doesn't mean we will sign him

Not 100% sure of the context, but I thought he was asked a question about the player specifically and he simply answered it based on how he saw his performance.

Not aware that he chose to speak about him off his own back.

Put it this way, it wouldn't surprise me if it was a question from a hack engineering a flyer on a 'McGinn for Celtic' story.

Big celtic fan, decent player, wouldn't get anywhere near our first team and nowhere near good enough for CL. Can we stop it now, please.
Remember the days when Hibs stars always ended up at Celtic? Just off the top of my head, Pat Stanton, John Collins, Pat McGinlay, Didi Agathe, Gary Caldwell, Scott Brown.... I know I've missed a bunch.

Not every player Celtic sign will be first team regular. We need squad players who are good at what they do and willing to play as and when required.

However, we have squad players in the same position McGinn plays in who are at least as good as he is. That being the case, it would be a pointless signing. That is, unless he improves dramatically over the next 6-12 months and that people at the club see that potential.

I never cease to be astonished at how "squad player" is thrown around as an insult. We need a squad, FFS! McGinn is a good young player who, for my money, offers more than either McGregor or Henderson, and I like Liam. I also think he'd offer more than Bitton, who maybe has more talent but doesn't apply it as often as he should. Having said that, you'd expect Ebouie to be Nir's replacement.

I think Brendan maybe sees McGinn as Broonie's natural replacement. We'll see.
We need squad depth and a decent group of players to choose from.

McGinn (and Crawford) wouldn't be bad additions. They're good players who would improve in our squad and under Rodgers.

As for the SPFL naysayers, theres plenty quality in this division that would make it at Celtic.
Ali Crawford?

Not a chance.
Thankfully

 Whoever mentioned Ali Crawford has to be Ali himself, or one of his mates. No disrespect to the lad, but Celtic aint signing him.

Ive always rate wee John McGinn, but he is nowhere near the level of player Celtic are looking for, will never happen. Brendan was probably just asked a question and it was answered.

We have one a really Special Manager  :worthy:

He has the players playing for him,the players respecting, listening to and learning from both him and his backroom staff, he has the Support fully on board, he has DD's hotline and backing, he has last 16 CL ambitions as to where he wants to take Celtic, he plays the media even better than MON did in some respects,he takes no shiiiite from anybody.

He is on record that much as he always tried his very best wherever he has managed Celtic is THE Club he feels the REAL passion for.

In Brendan We Trust!!! :clover: Happy, Happy Days!!! :clover:

Celtic return to the scene of their only blemish in this season’s domestic campaign on Wednesday when they travel to Inverness, where they were held to a 2-2 draw in September. If anything, the stumble may have had the effect of spurring the Hoops on to a sequence which was extended against Hamilton yesterday to 21 successive Scottish Premiership wins and 32 domestic fixtures unbeaten, but Brendan Rodgers disclosed that the slip in the Highlands still niggles.

“Every game that you’ll feel you can do better in, you’ll always look back at, and that was a game where [out] of all the domestic games we’d had, we gave it away late on,” said the Parkhead manager. “But the response has been brilliant.

“We’ve got another chance to go up there this week and look to get another three points. At that time they were in a good moment and we were on the back of a 7-0 defeat by Barcelona in the Champions League.

“We played very badly in the first half and, in the second half, we were brilliant and how we didn’t win the game is beyond me but now we’re in February having won 30 out of 31.”

Only 10 days after they were held in Inverness, Celtic drew again, but this time the outcome reflected well on Rodgers and his squad as Manchester City had to come from behind three times to leave the east end of Glasgow with a Champions League group stage point. Rodgers reflected on that performance – and the subsequent 1-1 draw between the sides in the Etihad – when City met AS Monaco in midweek.

“I watched the game,” said Rodgers. “I think we showed in that tournament that we grew as we went on, in every aspect. Tactically, we got better mentally.

“The first game with City, 3-3, was a brilliant game, a proper game of football and we showed the level we can go to in the future.

“In the game in Manchester, we showed a real level of confidence to get a 1-1 draw. City are an outstanding team. So are Monaco, as they showed. At that level there are no easy games.

“Even if teams change the team around, like Man City did in the last game with us, they have players against you who are fighting and all want to win. We played two really good games with City and that bodes well for confidence.

“Watching the games the other night you could see that this is where we would be if we had got out the group stage. It’s top level and the highest level of technical quality, mentality and speed. Yes, that’s the level we will get to.”

In terms of Celtic’s pre-season preparatory programme, Rodgers confirmed that the temptation to play lucrative friendlies in the United States will be resisted. “We’ll be in Europe, not too far and we’ll be back mid-June,” he said.

“There are no glamour games planned. Celtic could go to Boston, I went there with Liverpool and head a great pre-season but you can’t really do it when you’ve got such important games three weeks into the season.

“So you just have to do your work here then get away for 10 days and work hard, bond and get some good games.”
