They extended Klopp's contract by 4 years last summer as well 😶 so glad they punted Brendan and we have him now :chuffed:
I just had a quick look through some LFC forums on the back of reading that stat and they are mainly very bitter towards Brendan - anyone know why?

They also seem to be blindly in love with Klopp... :ponder: I like Klopp, but i think him and Pep have both peaked and that style of playing has had its day. Their problem seems to be an unwillingness to try something new. No Plan B, you could say...

The sense I get from some of them is that it is the frustration of just not quite getting there. It is easy enough for us saying he got them closer than anyone else has in 26 years, but think how that felt to them to get that close ad not win it. It hurt. Some will appreciate what Brendan did and some will never get over that IMO.

They are no different than other supporters in that respect. I do think some of the stuff directed a Brendan is OTT, but the way I see it is we get the benefit of his experience from his time at Liverpool. They have to hope and believe in Klopp. Leave them to it...we've got Brendan Rodgers

Brendan clearly wants us to make an impact in Europe...in fact he seems quite determined :rocker:
.
We should be in Europe beyond winter pretty much every single year. I think Brendan wants to leave us in that kind of shape.

When has that ever been the case though? Did O'Neill's team ever finish last in a CL group?

European football 3 years in a row after Christmas is very good tbf.

Were we regularly doing that in the 80s still? I know we had a few famous results but not sure if that was par for the course.

What I like most about us at the moment is the focus i.e. when decisions aren't going our way or we aren't having the best of games, there is still that drive to ensure we have the biggest effect on the game. That has been missing domestically and more often than not missing in Europe altogether.

We do have a right to complain about refereeing incompetence, but there is nothing you can do about it during the game and it becomes a distraction if you let it. I would guess this is one of the reasons Brendan is big on discipline. We need that extra discipline to get somewhere in Europe...as well as a fair amount of quality obviously.

In all fairness, Klopp hasn't had Luis Suarez - which is a pretty big factor.

Nope. The Seville season was the first time we'd been in Europe after Christmas since 1980 (23 years). We lost 3-2 to Real on agg in the European Cup quarter final having won the 1st leg 2-0 at Celtic Park. Prior to that I think it was the CWC quarter final in 1976. Consecutive European football after Xmas has nearly always been a rarity for Celtic.

And by my count we've done it 6 times since 2003, not too shabby. And we were unlucky not to get the Europa League place this year.

Don't think BR's message re Griffiths was intended for Griffiths at all
That will have been done privately

More likely intended for fans to understand why he isnt playing

Starting to think griffiths is done for now and will get punted in the summer.
What was said? :ponder:
Rodgers was in the studio, sitting with McCann, Lennon and Tanner.

Was an excellent 'interview' though not the usual post-match format. Very conversational but educational. Rodgers has razor sharp analysis skills.

Tanner took the opportunity to ask about Griffiths. I thought Rodgers' response was pretty positive. He said that Griffiths has a big part to play in what 'we' are trying to achieve here.

He was pretty complimentary about Griffiths in terms of his ability and talent. However, he said that, like a few of the scottish players, he may be happy to just achieve a certain level while the very top players, once they reach their natural level best, push themselves higher and drive on to achieve even more.

He made it clear that Griffiths needs to do this if he is to achieve his optimum level in the game.

The whole thing lasted 15, maybe 20 minutes. Anyone who missed it should look it out.

True. Worth noting that Suarez wasn't the Suarez we know today back then, though. Rodgers had a massive hand in getting him from 'Good' to 'World Class'.

Without downplaying the achievement of still being in Europe after Christmas, there's far more teams involved nowadays and probably easier. Still, it's a good achievement and has to be our aim each year.

Re BR's comments on Griffiths, I think he'll be gone in the summer.

Was at hospitality at Fir Park for the 3-4 game and one of the guys at the table was a scouser and mad Liverpool fan with Celtic leanings..
Absolutely hated Rodgers, said 'you'll find out eventually' but couldn't really say anything actual reasons for it :ponder:

IMO they hate him as he got them close and failed to win the EPL. Whether it was Suarez or not, Rodgers had that team flying and but for a Gerrard slip would probably have won it. Maybe they cant bring themselves to hate Gerrard, so put it all on Brendan...??

CGAF anyway, glad he is here and love everything about this season so far...
Also noticed that that auld arsehole Shug on Snyde is already starting a campaign to day he will leave as the competition is non existent and Europe isn't enough to keep him....

I agree. I read a certain resignation in brendans comments and felt it was directed towards Griffiths. Basically the underlying vibe I got was that Brendan sees him as a gifted player with a suspect attitude who wont/cant raise himself to the next level.

Every player makes mistakes ffs - Never understand why mistakes are held against great players who have been superb for their club and I say that as someone who cgaf about Liverpool or Gerrard - Billy McNeill fecked up disastrously against AC Milan and Feyenoord the latter caused the goal that decided the Big Cup - Do we have a pop at him about that and instead of loving him call him for all sorts?
