AFTER watching his team establish a 25-point lead at the top of the SPFL Premiership following tonight’s 1-0 win over Aberdeen, Brendan Rodgers has stated that his team will not slack off in their search for further success.

With 67 points garnered out of a possible 69 in the league, the champions are on a seemingly unstoppable winning streak now stretching to 18 games in a row and they remain unbeaten in domestic football since the Irishman took over in the summer.

However, despite the massive gap between the Bhoys and their closest rivals at the summit of the table, the manager insists there will be no let-up.

“The next target’s to win against St Johnstone,” he said after tonight’s deserved 1-0 win over the Dons, courtesy of Dedryck Boyata’s second-half header. “I said to the players before the game that it was February 3 last year they played against Aberdeen in a similar sort of timeline away but they lost the game and Aberdeen went three points behind Celtic.

“I said if you win this game tonight, in less than a year you go 27 points in front of them. That difference and how you create that means you can’t go soft and you have to push. You have to keep fighting so let’s make sure. We’ve got a record number of wins, great, but we’re not going soft. We have to fight, we have to be relentless and we have to win, and they did that.

“We’re 27 ahead of Aberdeen, 25 ahead of the others and what we’re trying to create is an attitude for the next four or five years and beyond. That means we have an obligation to play well and win games.

“You can’t ask any more of what they’re doing at the moment. You look at their energy in the game to press, to defend was fantastic, but win the next game is always the target.”

I think Brendan and Liverpool was Man U's Fergie moment - they kept Fergie when it was rocky cos they had faith; but Liverpool bottled it. Their loss our gain.
He has more control at this club and it's a better location for his management skills to be best utilised.

Last night was Rodgers' 40th game in charge: Won 30 (75%), Drawn 5 (12.5%), Lost 5 (12.5%). F90 A37 GD +53.

In that time he's won the first trophy of (hopefully) our treble, oversaw our joint-best league start ever, led us to 28 consecutive domestic games unbeaten this season, crushed the huns 3/3 times and currently we're 25 points clear after 23 games.

He become the first Celtic manager to qualify for the Champions League in his first season - seeing Celtic back after a 3 year absence - and despite ultimately finishing bottom, we got 3 valuable draws in a group of death. This included a phenomenal game ending Guardiola's winning run, and going desperately close to beating a Bundesliga team away from home. He made 2 monumental signings in Sinclair and Dembele, with Toure also pivotal in seeing us through the UCL qualifiers, and I have a good feeling about Eboue Kouassi.

He's demonstrated top class man management skills. Gordon, Gamboa, Boyata, Simunovic, Forrest, Brown, Armstrong, McGregor and Rogic have all to various degrees gained confidence, adapted their game, improved their work ethic or have simply contributed far more than was seen under the previous manager.

His success thus far has also signified a change in dynamics at the club. Unlike previous Celtic managers post-O'Neill, he has complete authority and control of the football department. He has installed tactical fluidity in any given game, and has shown to be able to make tough decisions i.e gradually diminishing Toure's role in the team (whether you agree or disagree), as well as proving he isn't stubborn when quickly ditching De Vries - someone he lavished with praise and heavily indicated would be Celtic's #1 - for Gordon to reclaim the mantle.

I'm not one for schmaltz but while it's always a joy being a Celtic fan, this season has been beyond my expectations and it's like last year never happened. I truly hope the juggernaut rolls on and on for many weeks, months and years to come with Brendan at the helm.

I think it's becoming clear that Brendan is a visionary manager who has more than just a winning team to build -- he wants to build a club, a legacy. He is more like Big Jock and Bill Shankly than he is like Mourinho and Pep, who want to be successful for their own ego and don't give a scheidt for what follows them. That's not to say Brendan doesn't have an ego!

I don't know what went wrong for Brendan at Liverpool -- it's too simplistic just to say Suarez left -- but whatever it was it's our gain. I think they would have given him more time but Klopp made it known Liverpool was a club be admired and their board reacted like a spotty teenager being passed a note saying the beautiful new bird in class fancied him. Klopp was their nocturnal emission and it's got a bit messy for them.

The right man at the right club at the right time -- what did we all do to deserve this? :chuffed:

I think the problem was signings being taken out of his hands.

There are clubs who would put stars on their shirts for two leagues and a cup in two years.

Don't know if this has been posted but it's a nice piece.

Brendan Rodgers pays moving tribute to Celtic icon Tommy Burns: He was sent from Heaven as a saint to be a Celt
Rodgers revealed his admiration for the late, great Celtic icon after attending this year's Tommy Burns Supper at Celtic Park.
