Going by the BBC league tables, we are the top scorers in Britain and nobody has played fewer games than us. :rocker:

In the league that is.

We're likely playing in the least competitive division tbf.

I see Kennedy took the pre-match press conference yesterday. Thought he handled it really well, coming across confident, articulate and knowledgeable.

How so? There's not much of a gap between first and second.

So far so good in the month which usually sees us dropping points needlessly. The lack of Europe after Christmas is a bit disappointing, but the positive is it should mean Brendan has even more time to coach the lads and that can only be a good thing.

Realistically it was a bonus to be in the CL for as long as we were. Next season is when we'll start to really see what he's been doing.

I didn't think we would make the group stages at all. He's made such a difference already with a very busy schedule that it can only be good for him to have extra time with them on the training field. The two games against Man City and the away against BMG are indicators of the level he wants us to step up to. Bloody exciting!

For me the 2 things that we need for a successful season are winning the league and getting to the CL group stages. Packy Bonner was on the radio saying that Brendan had talked about 7 targets for this season but in terms of developing the club at this point in time the biggest factor by miles is getting the revenue from the CL group stages.

As far as current form is concerned the biggest issue for me is the newly acquired nervousness at the back. Both Hamilton and Dundee were a bit too exciting at the end. Still no harm done and hopefully the coaching staff and the players are on the case. Would love to close the year off with 4 wins.

I always want us to get CL. I just didn't think we would with this group of players and it being so early in Brendan's reign. CL revenue must be used wisely. I hope that some of it will be going to help the YA as well as the first team.

BRENDAN RODGERS looks set to give Celtic Academy kids their chance against Partick Thistle tonight.

Rodgers is desperate to beat Alan Archibald’s Jags to stretch Celts’ unbeaten domestic run to 21 games.

But the Hoops manager is set to take a risk by handing debuts to teenage starlets.

SunSport understands 18-year-old Calvin Miller is one of those he wants to see in first-team action.

The Scotland Under-19 cap has emerged as an attacker but Rodgers is believed to see potential in him as a left-back.

Miller trained with the first team yesterday with boss Rodgers also considering giving other youngsters a chance.

He said: “I’ll look at some young players.

“Coming here, my vision was based on three fundamental principles.

“One, to win as many titles as we possibly can.

“Two, to win by playing an attacking, aggressive brand of football.

“Three, to have young players from the Academy in here.

“We’ve had some players in, but it would be nice to look at one or two others and see how they cope with the pressure.

“That’s always been my way. I look for the now, but I look to the future as well, so there may be an opportunity for one or two of the younger boys on Tuesday.

“This is what building a club is about, creating the hope for youth players.

“If they don’t think they can play, why should you have an academy?

“That’s how I’ve always worked, putting the young players in.

“But they have to be ready, not totally ready, of course, and show the ingredients that they can come in and play in the first team. That’s very important to a big club.”

Celts had to break down a defensive Dundee side on Saturday to win 2-1.

But Rodgers has no problem with opposition teams setting up to stop his team from playing.

He added: “No, it’s brilliant. Every boss, every coach has a different way.

“If that’s the philosophy of the opponent then you have to find a way to break that down and I enjoy that challenge. I enjoy that strategic look at the game. How can we play against that?

“That’s why it’s so important my team plays out of different systems because eventually, when we get in the flow of our game, it forces teams back and we create chances and score goals.

“So if teams block out that space you have to find a different way.”

Rodgers also revealed he’s a big fan of Thistle boss Alan Archibald.

He said: “I’ve watched his side and how he tries to play. He’s a courageous coach. He does well with the limitations he has.”

Meanwhile, Tom Rogic’s ankle has been encased in a moon boot after he was crocked in the win over Dundee. He misses out tonight and is a doubt for the matches against Hamilton and Ross County.

Rodgers apparently made sure he was played at LB in a few of the development games so he must have seen something. Apparently same switch happened with Tierney a while back. Winger > left back.

BRENDAN Rodgers last night praised the "persistence and resistance" of his Celtic team last night after they made it 21 domestic matches unbeaten with a 1-0 win against Partick Thistle, then said he was prepared to dig his heels in to keep Croatian central defender Jozo Simunovic at the club in the wake of renewed interest from Italian side Torino.

While the Northern Irishman, who made eight changes from the win against Dundee, admonished his side for their failure to press the ball effectively enough during the first period, a first half strike from Scott Sinclair, on his first start following a hamstring problem, was enough to secure the club's 12th straight league win and move them 14 points clear of Rangers with a game in hand. Including their pre-season adventures, this was Celtic's 41st match of the season.

“It’s not easy but I think you have to credit the players in terms of how they go from game to game to game," said Rodgers, who is hopeful of having Tom Rogic back next week. "I think that was the 41st game we’ve had which is a phenomenal amount. To not slip up domestically really shows a real persistence and resistance that’s in the team and energy to keep going.

“We changed the team about in order to have that freshness and energy in our game and we probably didn’t press the game as much as I’d have liked in the first half," he added. "We should have scored more goals to make it calmer but still having that mentality to win is very, very important."

Reports from Italy last night suggested Serie A outfit Torino were ready to tempt Celtic with a renewed bid for Simunovic, who travelled over to the club with a view to a prospective signing during the summer, but Rodgers insisted the situation has now changed and he was desperate to keep him at the club.

“I think they have probably seen how well he’s been doing," said the Northern Irishman. "He’s only a boy really at 22 years of age and developing very, very well. He’s got all the attributes and still has improvements to make of course, but if you’re a top club you would want someone like him. He’s very much a part of what we’re building here.”

In addition to goal hero Sinclair, Rodgers had praise for 18-year-old debutant Calvin Miller, who he compared to England defender Ryan Bertrand for the manner in which he has transitioned from an attacking player to a left back. “I see similar sort of traits in Calvin where he can do that one position behind," said Rodgers. "But he’s only 18 so he needs time to develop, learn the position and learn the role. He’s got some outstanding qualities that can offer the club something going forward."

It would be madness to sell him now but if Torino came back in I'd absolutely gouge them for the way they conducted themselves previously.
