Every passing game, makes me actually question my own judgement more and more. I wanted Moyes as 1st choice, Brendan 2nd. :ffs:
I shared that delusion. I blame it on the trauma of the final part of Ronny's reign.

He's on the show now!!!

Edit: it was a good 10 minute chat, highlights including him singling out Brown and Armstrong for their outstanding efforts so far this season , that Dembele is definitely not leaving in Jan but beyond that u never know as that is the current climate but stressed that young players move too soon for the money instead of first team football - especially at a club playing home games in front of 60+thousand each week

He sounded on great form

Sorry but I couldn't help but laugh at their John Giles quote:

"Brendan is someone who if you ask him the time he'll tell you how to build a clock"

Moyes was my first choice too after it was clear Deila was leaving. Thought it would be better getting a pragmatic guy in to give us some decent organisation etc.

Thank feck we never though. Rodgers is the perfect fit for our club. A proper manager after the Ronny debacle.

I thought the same about Moyes mate, happy to have been proved wrong. :)

MON's Left Eyebrow
6 Dec 2016, 02:51 AM
If he stays for the 10 he'll go down in our history as possibly the most important manager since Stein. And he, of all people, knows that.
MON's still ahead of him in terms of importance, he's the one who gave everyone belief in Celtic and what the club could and should be, and he's the one who put the myth of hun superiority for bed once and for all.

Rodgers could win the 10 and still not quite beat that IMO, for the simple fact that we don't have any other teams in Scotland that can provide a sustained challenge in the league. If however he can do something in Europe - maybe reaching and even winning the Europa final, or getting to say the quarter finals of the CL (I'd love further obviously but trying to keep this realistic) then I think he can be deemed more important than MON. Also, if he can implement the changes off the pitch that can finally get us the scouting and coaching setups that we've long been crying out for that could benefit the club for decades to come.

Note that I'm talking about importance to the club by the way, not about who's the better manager. We'll save that fascinating debate for whenever the next international week is ;)
I think we're in for some great times with Brendan Rodgers and really hope he's backed in January. He's shown what he can do in getting the most out of what he's got with limited transfer funds, now let him get his main targets in in January and make the CL qualification a less fraught affair.

No Celtic manager will ever face the circumstances that Martin O'Neill faced when he took over Celtic. He took on a monster and smashed it at the knees.

Every Celtic manager that followed had that advantage created by O'Neill's era, even if sometimes it wasn't used wisely - but most importantly they had started openly cheating to keep up and win their subsequent titles.

If managed correctly Brendan Rodgers could get the chance to build something special at home and in Europe, playing football the Celtic way. Domestically, that's the kind of football that we need to see. In Europe, well, we can only hope to see it, but the way we moved the ball around in four of our six games, and the way we got so much better after our two major setbacks in the groups, shows that we have a top management team and players who trust them.

I think we're going to stack up the trophies and Brendan may well prove to be a manager who wins more, who takes us to 10, and who is ultimately better, but the challenge is different to that faced by O'Neill's Celtic who were, we were told, five years behind being able to compete with Rangers when he walked in the door.

Great days back then, and great times ahead too.

As much as Brendan is good for us, it shouldn't be understated that we are good for him. I caught - by complete accident - one of those Premiership Years programmes on Sky Sports, and it was the season where he got the tin tack from Anfield. There was an interview with him and he was quite introverted, and you could see his confidence had taken a bit of a bettering. He definitely didn't have the swagger and gravitas he's showing now. He's come here and he's been given a level of control of a massive club he's never had before and he's relishing it. He is growing as a manager as well as us growing as a team, and I'm sure a clever guy like Rodgers knows this, which hopefully means he's not leaving any time soon.

must be fantastic being a player at the club just now. I've had jobs where I've sat dreading going to bed on a Sunday night and hated working with the manager/team I've been working with. The difference it can make to peoples lives when they're enjoying their work is incredible. We're sometimes guilty of forgetting that these guys are human and have families and ups and downs. Most of us can go into work and have a crap day without it causing too many problems, they can't.

They must be loving life at the moment and that is down to the appointment of Brendan Rodgers.

Just think how good we'll be when he brings in his own players.
Too easy, give the guy a challenge. Bring back Bangura and Balde and see him make them into players. What he's done with Armstrong, Forrest and now possibly GMS is incredible.

Just glad we have now. Though 'pushing the boat out' so far has earned us money I would think? All hinged on that nervy last 20 minutes in Israel, fine margins sometimes.
