JORDON MUTCH is a target for Celtic and Aston Villa in the January window.

The Crystal Palace midfielder, 24, has started only League Cup games this season and will be allowed to leave for the right price.

Mutch arrived at Selhurst Park from QPR for £4.75million almost two years ago but has slipped down the pecking order under boss Alan Pardew.

He was an unused substitute in the 2-1 home defeat against Manchester City and has mustered a measly eight minutes of league action this campaign.

Meanwhile Pardew is coming under increasing pressure despite recently receiving backing from Palace’s owners.

Is he a defensive MF?
He was a box to box type midfielder at Cardiff. Was their top goal scorer that year they were up I think but has barely had a look in at Palace.

Excellent. If Pardew doesn't rate him he will be tremendous for us.

Just searched his name on Twitter, he seems to be very unpopular with Palace fans. I can't honestly remember ever watching him play.

Read that as 25m swoop at first

He was arguably Cardiff's best player in the PL so he obviously has something about him. Would be a good signing, imo.

I know folk on here despise everything about the place but it feels good to be shopping in England again rather than the Congolese 5th division.

Celtic are plotting a £3.5million January move for Crystal Palace's Jordon Mutch.

The 24-year-old Englishman has mustered just three appearances for the Premier League club this season.

But, contrary to reports, the Parkhead side will not be dragged into a bidding war with Championship side Aston Villa for the box-to-box midfielder.

Linked with both clubs, senior sources at the Birmingham club insist Mutch does not feature on their radar.

Sportsmail understands, however, that Rodgers and assistant manager Chris Davies are admirers of a player signed from Queens Park Rangers for £4.75million in January 2015. With a contract until 2019, however, he will not come cheap.

Unable to secure James McCarthy or James Morrison last summer, Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has earmarked a quality midfielder as a priority for the forthcoming window.

Central defence is another position he hopes to strengthen, with Efe Ambrose poised for the exit and Eoghan O'Connell expected to join Kilmarnock on loan for the rest of the season.

Not sure this guy is a huge step up from what we already have. Could end up with three or four midfielders who are all Mutch of a muchness (sorry).
