Refreshingly honest in his post-match interview. Dust ourselves down and hammer the zombies.

Played right into their hands with the literal chasm between Brown & Bitton to Rogic.

Every time Kolo or Erik picked up the ball they had no option but to launch it long in that first half. BMG pressed high up on our full backs and the midfield on to Brown and Bitton. The onus was on Rogic to come towards the ball but he didn't do it once instead he was floating around Dembele who constantly had to fight for long punts against a effing 6ft 6 monster in Vestergaard.

The rare times he got it in to feet he was woeful. In the first half he had the lowest pass %. The player most dispossessed and had the most unsuccessful first touches. He should have been off long before the goal. He was a passenger.

If we had brought on McGregor or Armstrong for him when it was evident it wasn't working we would have had far more options on the ball and would have been a better pressing unit as yet again he was constantly caught ahead of the ball leaving us playing a high line with no pressure on the midfield. Suicide.

Got caught tactically tonight. Managed to shore it up by about 30mins and restricted them to long shots. Up until the error when we lost the goal, I thought we were just playing our way into the game. Will learn lots from tonight

Agree about Dembele but our aim was to get Rogic on the ball where they got Stindl on the ball.

Rogic picked up those positions often enough but we couldn't get him the ball, either because he was pressed very quickly, or the ball wasn't good enough.

Rogic wasn't the problem. Bitton and Brown's dithering on the ball was.

Don't really see what he could have done differently. The quality in the squad just isn't there.

Agree. Biton was casual and Rogic off the pace. Similar performances to the ones we were used to pre Brendan. Some people need a reality check. He inherited a bag of crap and has done wonders with them.

Harsh. Two men down against a good team. Does need a different option though but hasn't the players for it. Yet.

we got to half time and i was looking for inspiration from him as to how we could get into game and retain the ball up front / get some semblance of control in midfield

neither happened - he got the plaudits v city

this was not good at all and not managed through to a draw

Bitton and Rogic should have stayed inside and been nowhere near the second half

I'm still seriously cheesed off at Bitton tonight!

There was a couple of occasions he actually flicked the ball away directly to a BMG player

Starting to think he had a coupon on :arrr:

But BR has his work cut out after that - preparing for Sunday and how we go into these remaining CL games - hopefully he signs a decent defensive mid as soon as is humanly possible

Dearth of quality central midfield options limited his ability to change the game. We're a 4th pot team against 3 teams from the world's top 3 leagues. I won't be judging his 1st season performance on this CL group. He'll need 2-3 windows to effect full change on the team.

We insisted - for 90 minutes - on playing it out through the defence when Toure, Tierney and Sviatchenko were having nightmares.

Same thing happened over and over - back and forth along the back line, players throwing their hands up, nobody showing, midfield nonexistent. And yet we persisted.

We had a choice tonight against opposition who were not top level but were extremely well drilled. Cede possession in front of our box, or gamble on nicking something and cede possession around theirs. Tonight was an arrogant performance on our part and we have been well and truly put in our place by a half-strength Gladbach side.

Think it would have been but for 2 shockers. Can't legislate for those. I'd have grabbed 0-0 at half time.

He said in his pre match conference that they play with 4 in midfield & I thought we might be outnumbered there. This proved to be the case but the problem is we needed to bring in 2 decent midfielders in the summer,we simply had to do it,but didn't.
We have to sort this in the next 2 windows(probably next summer) & there are no excuses as he must have a budget of close to £20m to cover these windows otherwise it's an absolute disgrace. He simply doesn't have options in midfield as Armstrong,MacGregor,Bitton & GMS are simply not good enough. Brown is limited & won't last for ever & Rogic always has to be subbed. This crucial area of the team requires major surgery & that was clear to all in the summer.
We also how've to remember how bad a side we were when he took over & how little time & money he has had so decent progress has been made. He does appear defensively naive at times but is this down to his lack of options in midfield?

Tierney and Sviatchenko had nothing close to nightmares. We'd have taken at least a draw tonight if our forwards were up to it. To blame the result entirely on our defence and tactics is effing mental.
