Brown, Biton and Mcgregor (barring injuries) up against Barca and City, not to mention a rapid and powerful German side.

I hope Rodgers manages to get every last ounce of discipline and effort out of them.
I'd imagine that we might see Ajer in midfield in Europe. Probably as a sub for McGregor.
Ajer might not even be in the CL squad. Gamboa will take Janko's place and Simunovic will probably take Johansen's, so the last spot will probably be between Ambrose, Mackay-Steven and Ajer. Commons might even be in the mix as well.

He'll be on the B-list as he's under 20.

No he won't, he hasn't been at the club long enough.

You're right, hadn't realised it was two years.

The same thing that happens if he doesn't. We get destroyed in Europe and dominate domestically.

Has his work cut out in the CL but we knew that anyway. He prioritsed certain areas of the team and left CM until last, possibly because he had more midfielders to assess than other areas of the team. He also said he likes to build a team from the front which he has to good effect to date, but I`m not sure it`ll help us for these types of games.

I think he`s about to find out how short we are in that area in terms of the quality compared to what he has on the flanks for example. He`ll be hoping Hapoel away was a one off for some of them but we`ve seen those types of performances from a few of them before.

He`s not daft so it`ll be interesting to see how he sets us up, I doubt he`ll get away with the wrong starting 11 in many of these ties.

There is no danger of Ajer playing in the Champions League barring a monumental injury crisis.

I'll be interested to see if we make any backroom changes now that that transfer window is done.

Three of Rodgers' signings are players he's worked with directly before, and the other two were players he'd at least be familiar with.

Whilst he's definitely got previous for that kind of thing - Sinclair at Swansea, Allen and Borini and Liverpool etc - he's also recruited extensively from abroad in both of his last major jobs.

Our recent transfers have been largely poor; one of Rodgers' biggest jobs to date has been shifting the deadwood out. I would be surprised if, during that process, he wondered how we came to own such large number of mediocre players.

How many of the signings we made under Deila can be judged to be genuinely successful? Griffiths, Van Dijk, Sviatchenko for definite. Bitton, Johansen, Gordon have been decent, if not brilliant. The loan signings of Denayer and Roberts have been good, if short term, additions.

Compare that with the list of duds; Balde, Mouyokolo, Boerrigter, Pukki, Fridjonsson, Tonev, Berget, Scepovic, Mackay-Steven, Janko, Ciftci, Cole, Kazim-Richards, Blackett... and that's not even counting the players that don't deserve to be called duds but certainly can't be called successes like Armstrong, Boyata and Christie.

And ultimately, who is responsible for them? Who scouted them, who made the recommendations, who convinced the board that they would be good acquisitions? How did the process become so bad that we've made such a litany of awful investments?

I think the most obvious weakness in the football operation at the moment is our scouting. And if I was Rodgers, I'd be looking at that and wondering how we can improve it so we're recruiting more in the Griffiths/Van Dijk/Sviatchenko mould and fewer like Boerrigter, Balde, Ciftci and Scepovic.

Van Dijk was Lennon's signing, sure he played a part in our last CL campaign.

Was Griffiths not a Lennon signing as well?

Jeez, my memory is shocking. Although in fairness, two years of having Deila as manager definitely felt like longer...

Anyway - in the last three years, we've signed some absolute dross. I still maintain there's something fundamentally wrong with how we're spotting players. We're just not very good at it.

For balance, Balde, Mouyokolo, Boerrigter, Pukki & Fridjonsson were all Lennon signings too. He neglected to mention mighty Mo Bangura

Brendan visiting St Ninians today in Kirkintilloch to talk to 5th and 6th years about the success of the academy within the School.
Presented head teacher Paul McLaughlin with signed strips from Teirney, Ralston and Aitchison who all came through there.
Quite proud as it's the School I went to and my son goes to at the moment.
