He's done really well to get that squad (injury hit squad at that) into the CL.
Yeah, when we lost Erik and Paddy I thought we had no chance. Getting Toure and Sinclair in saved us, probably our best 2 last night? With those 2, Simunovic, to come back, get a new right back, we could look a whole lot better very soon. Well done BR, got a bit of luck sure, but earned it with brave decisions at vital times. My initial fears over his Brent-isms seem unfounded, speaks well and lots of sense, good bit of honesty too. 8/10 so far :)

Quite taken aback by some of the snide criticisms of our manager (more in the post-match thread than here) from KDS's large coterie of Monday-morning quarterbacks, tactical geniuses and hurting lurkers, though I can't say I'm surprised. Brendan Rodgers inherited some of the poorest and most cowardly players I can recall in watching Celtic for the years that I have, and, with a few judicious additions, be has got us into the group stages at the first time of asking, a feat I thought would be impossible given the past two catastrophic years. The guy should be cheered from the rafters, not told he nearly blew it. Maybe he did ride his luck, but the better you are the luckier you get.

It's not as if we have sailed through qualifying when we HAVE managed to qualify in previous years -- a last-minute winner against Karagandy and penalties against Moscow spring to mind, both at home.

Rodgers has proved he knows what he's doing in the transfer market and should be given a proper budget. I can guarantee we'll qualify much more easily next year.

Was just about thinking this and if you consider where he was starting from it is a fantastic achievement.

The MSM go on about our spending but he has spent a relatively paltry 4 million so far and turned our ailing team around.

He has said it himself, this team has a long way to go before he gets us where he wants us to be.

Good times ahead under BR.

Best start to a season in years.

he got it massively wrong last night in terms of personnel & tactics..

but... full credit to Brendan for getting us into the group stages with these players, the board need to back him again to get a couple of signings in.

So massively wrong that we qualified? You'll have all your coaching badges I suppose?

Are you saying after watching that performance he got it right?! :ponder:

I get that these games are won over 2 legs but our performance couldn't have lowered any further - we were one pish penalty away from being knocked out

If he's not in the process of looking to spend the vast majority of his remaining transfer budget on a midfielder that can read the game, tackle, run and pass then I'll be worried. We have nobody in the team that can dominate the midfield and it shine through last night.

As I said previously, their second goal was a pure calamity which no manager could have done anything about. Maybe you think differently in which case please explain why.

His job was to qualify for the group stages of the CL with a dross of a squad after being in post for 95 (NINETY FIVE) days.

There's a whole crop of gameboy managers about here for sure.

Looked to me like he was holding out until the second half to bring in Rogic and Sviatchenko as he knew they wouldn't last the full 90 minutes. Didn't count on Janko having an absolute nightmare though, so at half-time, instead of replacing McGregor with Rogic he decides to replace Forrest so they can put McGregor wide right and hopefully give Janko more cover. Then wait until 60 minutes to bring on Sviatchenko and tighten it all up.

Almost completely undone by Janko and McGregor's terrible performances, but I could see what the thought process was behind it.

He should have hooked Janko instead of Forrest imo, Sviatchenko for Janko and move Lustig to RB. Janko was an absolute liability last night.

As I said the earlier, Plans A & B didn't work, but he had a Plan C that did. So yes, he did get it right as we qualified

Think after their second goal last week he feared putting Lustig back out there?

We need a decent RB more than a midfielder I reckon. Should hopefully get both with the cash we just earned :)

Probably worried that Lustig wouldn't last the whole match if we put him at right-back

Whilst I thought he got his subs wrong last night, after rogic came on we had little shape, his perseverance meant he ultimately got it right.

The switch to the back 3 or 5 seen us through.

It doesn't always need to be one or the other. I'd say he made a few mistakes last night, which seems to have been borne out by the evidence. And then he got it right, which also seems to have been borne out by the evidence.

Still, by all means you keep being angry at everything.

To be fair although he got the initial team selection wrong he made a good move bringing Sviatchenko on and changing to a back 5. That probably got us through in the end.

BR has done very well in getting us to the champions league with this squad. It will be next summer before we see team that he wants.

We are seeing progress. It will be evolution not revolution.

Hard to know whether the 'Israel' comment at the end of his press conference was manners or a sly dig at the fans?
