What an achievement from BR. No one really gave us a chance of CL qualification and some (I'm one of them) are passed off tonight in comparison to how well we played last week. All we can hope now is the board back BR. He needs to finally cleanse the fear factor that runs through this team on night like this.

No idea what that line up was about. Wasn't working and wasn't changed.

Big gambles in most games so far and they have worked, but this was almost self indulgent. Total shocker.

Great to get us through. That wasn't just staring disaster in the face though, it was calling disaster a fud.

No idea how we survived . Dembele gave them something to think about but we diced with death with Janko, while we had perfectly decent right back at centre half and a decent centre half on the bench.

Really terrible performance from every perspective.

Edit to add, I'll take a pish victory over glorious failure any day of the week. Lessons need learned though. Hopefully it was the pressure f qualifying that got to them and next time around we'll be more relaxed and more able to play our own game.

At 2-0 tonight he looked more than a bit concerned

Glad we held on in the end, hes got us there and with the guts of a team that didn't look capable at the end of last season.

Time for the board to back the man and get us a couple of quality, experienced players.

Wasn't changed? We played 3 different formations over the course of the game, a sub was done at half time and another early in the 2nd half.

We should have started with the formation we ended with. If we had kept it tight from the start not allowing them easy crosses and passes I to the box they wouldn't have had the lift they had for most of the game.

Brilliant feeling as BR said himself

We defended and protected the centre of defence pretty well. I still think we looked dangerous on the attack though much less than I expected to be the case. We never at any point got a grip of the game in midfield. People talk about the physical difficulty of playing a pressing game, tonight showed the mental / tactical difficulty as much as anything else. When you are being pushed back and can't get a hold of the ball for sustained periods....very difficult to start pressing.

Was obviously nervy as eff but that's still a huge step forward for us in terms of these CL play off games.

I get that it was changed. I mentioned it elsewhere so I'm not blind to the fact.

I'm almost blind with the pints though so probably not expressing what I mean.

There was a catastrophe unfolding and it wasn't dealt with quickly enough. Last week we heard how they had disrespected us with their set up. I think we did the same thing today.

On that cliffhanger, eff it, we're through

Said in the post match thread, wrong choice of team but he will learn from it. He needs to learn quick who he can trust, too many of these players that look good for a couple of games here and there will let him down just as they have previous managers.

He's a lucky man. Great job to qualify but he rode his luck last night.

That team was all wrong. He got the shape right in the last 25/30 mins but that was stil brutal.

One word: Janko. :ffs:

A manager is measured on what he can squeeze out of the resources he has at hand.

Well we know what he inherited from last season, an under performing, mentally fragile group.

On top of this he has spent around £4m.

He lost to injury 2 of the better players from last year ( Erik & Paddy ) and was left at times with a defence of 3 players under 21 with no European experience between them and a 35 year old free transfer to manage them.

We have a 100% record domestically and are through to the CL all whilst having to deal with commitments to glamour games.

If this manager doesn't deserve more resources then none do.

I suppose one tiny positive was the performances of his own signings. Toure, Sinclair and Dembele were in the very small group of players last night who looked like they belong at Celtic. I'm sure de Vries can't be much worse than Gordon either.

Still. It's a very fine line between £30m Champions League riches and a CL qualifying failure where we manage to blow a 3 goal lead and lose to a semi-professional Gibraltan outfit. A monumental feck up that would have perhaps even eclipsed Deila's first season.

Last night was a massive confidence shaker.

Showed faith in Janko at ht when he shouldnt have but they created nothing once we went to 3 in defence.

He took us past two really, really tough teams to get to the champions league.

We have a top manager.

Dodged a bullet. Nearly responsible for the two worst results in our European history but will remembered as the manager who got CL qualification at the first time of asking.

Stay lucky Brendan

Got the line-up/tactics wrong at first, but changed it successfully just in time.

He learned a lot from the Imps match and he will have learned a lot last night too.

Last night wasn't enjoyable but I'm still confident it's gonna be a great season.

Happy days are here again :)

Quite rightly so. The 'nearly' is irrelevant because it didn't happen.

Of all the days not to criticise the manager.

He's managed to put a spine in this god forsaken bunch and with a few astute signings will improve us. His aim was to get us there and he did.
