Tis funny how the 'most embarssing defeat in our history' has been completely forgotten a few weeks after it happened. All that guff was WAAAY over the top.
I think that defeat spurred the board into spending the cash and BTW it was the biggest riddy ever in our history.
We lose to Sevco in a penalty shoot-out and you think it's the biggest embarrassment in our History You don't seem to know much about our history (you only need to go back one month to the Red Imps game in Gibraltar for a fairly embarrassing result) You think losing to Sevco on pens was more embarrassing than losing to Red Imps ??? Aye ok

“Hopefully, the players have positive experiences they can take in having learned from the past.”
Brendan talking about qualifying for CL. I really hope he honestly knows how much of a bunch of shampoo bags he's got & how woeful they have been - especially in Europe. If he really can turn them around, then he'll be right up there with the best of managers we've ever had. However, the board have utterly hung him out to dry - in putting him in the situation of having to hope his players have learned their lessons. Previous experience tells me that they can't, especially concerning defending corners.
So, if he gets us into the CL proper. He's absolutely proven that he deserves to be backed further by the board.

SCHOOL run today, European run tomorrow. Leigh Griffiths will walk his kids into class this morning and then aims to show his against Hapoel Be’er Sheva. That’s the plan anyway. The Celtic striker took his little boy Rhys into Primary 1 earlier this week with daughter Kacie set for her big day today. It’s a momentous occasion for any father and Griffiths, 25, is no different. Which is why he’s paid tribute to boss Brendan Rodgers for putting family before football — as he sets his sights on repaying him by firing Celts into the Champions League. Griffiths said: “I feel old — I’m only 25 but I feel old! But I have to give a special thanks to the gaffer, albeit it was lucky we got a home tie first. “I went and spoke to the gaffer straight away and he was great. “He said that if boys had kids then we would start training later. “We could also have been in a hotel the night before the match but the boys are staying at home. Thankfully, that means I can get to see my little girl go to her first day at school and then meet the boys at lunchtime. “It means a lot to me. I missed the kids’ birth due to football commitments, so I was praying we got a home tie first in this round. “Thankfully we did, so the mothers didn’t give me a pain in the neck. “The gaffer’s man-management skills are great. If you have any problems you can go and see him. “He asked the boys to come in later to let me take the wee man to school. Then we meet up in the afternoon before the game, meaning I can get to see my little girl go too.” Many managers would do it differently but Griffiths insists Rodgers’ approach is perfect for him and his frame of mind ahead of the vital clash. He added: “As soon as I wake up, I’ll get ready and go and see my wee girl go to school. It will be emotional, but as soon as those doors close my mind is focused on the game. “Getting to the hotel in the afternoon, getting a good rest and preparing well. If you are sitting in a hotel all day, it’s possible you could occupy yourself by over-thinking the game — what could and couldn’t happen. “But thankfully the manager has given us this time off and I have something to occupy me.” Griffiths knows the feeling of pain which comes from losing the Champions League play-off from last season. It’s agony he doesn’t want to experience again. The hitman added: “It is massive, that is where we want to be. That is the pinnacle of the club career, being in the Champions League. “The boys who have been here the last two years have been hurting. “Everyone keeps talking about those last two years. “But we have got a chance to rectify that again. We aim to get a good lead and hopefully take something over there to defend. “Last year was hard. I think if we don’t lose that goal with the last kick of the first-leg there is a whole different complexion to it. “You were there last year, you heard it. “After the first game, it felt like we had just been beaten, rather than won the game. “It was devastating in the changing room even though we had won the game. “We still had a lead to go over there and knew that if we didn’t concede then we were through. “But it was always going to be testing conditions over there. “They had been missing their captain in the first leg and unfortunately they got that all important first goal over there. “It was two setpieces that cost us — three really if you count the one here.” This time last season Griffiths hadn’t quite convinced Ronny Deila he was capable of leading the line for Celtic. But new gaffer Rodgers is in no doubt and has been raving about the Scotland striker so far. Griffiths added: “Last year was disappointing for me because obviously with Nadir Ciftci coming in and him playing straight away — right off the back of me having a good six months of that season. “But this time I am feeling good. The manager has had a lot of faith in me in the last four games, two qualifiers, and hopefully the next two I can play a part. “It is not going to be easy but if I am the man to put us through I will be delighted. “I am still trying to prove myself under the new manager. He has brought in Moussa Dembele and he has done well so far. “Obviously his goals have spoken for themselves. He got the all-important goal in the last round and scored two last week against Motherwell. “So he will be raring to go with confidence and whoever gets that jersey tomorrow will be ready and firing to go. “But I’ve seen what the gaffer has said about me and it’s great. “Considering the places he has managed, to be mentioned along with some of them is great. “I try to keep my head down and work hard and show the manager what I can do. “Hopefully he has looked at videos from last season and the season before that and seen that I can score goals. “But I think he has been more impressed with my link-up play and all aspects. “I have still got a lot to learn in the game but under this manager I am sure I can improve.” http://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/scotsol/homepage/sport/spl/celtic/7225355/School-run-ideal-for-Leigh-Griffiths-to-teach-Hapoel-Beer-Sheva-a-lesson.html

BIG-HEARTED boss Brendan Rodgers altered his Champions League training plans to let his players take their kids on the SCHOOL RUN. Celtic face Israeli champions Hapoel Be’er Sheva at Parkhead tonight in the first-leg of their play-off. The Hoops squad usually stay overnight in a hotel together before big matches. But Rodgers realised he had players with children starting their first day at school and tinkered with his schedule. Rodgers said: “Your kid going to school for the very first day, you never get it back EVER in your lifetime. “So I always make the point of finding out which players are new fathers and who has kids going to school on the first day. I find out the dates and I just put training back a wee bit. “It gives the players the chance to see their kids on a special day. You know, they are fathers, not just footballers. “They are people and I’ve always said that. “No matter what the number is on their back they are human beings. “I’m giving them the chance to go and walk their son or daughter into school. That’s a special moment for a father. “That’s why we rejig the preparation, but it doesn’t affect us. It’s just about planning forward, really. “A lot of managers maybe wouldn’t do it. But family is so important. Psychologically it can be a massive lift for a player. “Listen, you’d need to ask the players but I always try and put myself in their shoes. “Ultimately it’s about getting them on the field in the best possible condition I can, and that’s in every way. Psychologically, technically, tactically and mentally. “Mental fitness is important so if you have that release then great. “Someone like Leigh Griffiths, a young father, will never, ever get the chance to see his children’s first day at school again. That’s important. “Okay, we have a big game but we have lots of time to prepare. “I don’t tend to cocoon the players, I treat them like adults. I trust them, and work the trust. “Hopefully they take that responsibility as being a mature human being — and they’ll be prepared mentally.” http://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/scotsol/homepage/sport/spl/celtic/7225373/Brendan-Rodgers-Family-ties-mean-just-as-much-as-cup-ties.html

Leigh wont mind too much he has another 23 if he misses this one :-) Another step in creating "Brendan's bhoys", does not seem much, but all the little things add up. The only negative and its eensy weensy, for me, I raise my eyebrows when any manager, in any walk of life, feels the need to offer such wee gems up as "good guy" examples. It moves the focus of the original deed.

It's wee things like that that can make the difference in a relationship between someone and their boss. I had a guy who I struggled to get on with for a good while, then his wee girl had an accident and I bent over backwards to help with time off etc completely turned our relationship around.
It's funny it's changed in pretty much just 2 footballing generations. Watching that movie about Cloughs Forrest and he threatened to fine a guy for going for a light job when he'd been told to rest. They nipped to win bars after a morning session with a match to come that night! Now we're praising BR for letting the dads take an extra couple of hours.

He handles the press with consummate ease. I believe he's in line to chair the Syrian peace talks in the next few weeks.

We lose to Sevco in a penalty shoot-out and you think it's the biggest embarrassment in our History You don't seem to know much about our history (you only need to go back one month to the Red Imps game in Gibraltar for a fairly embarrassing result)
I think they are talking about the Imps game. I am anyway

Quoting limited to 3 levels deep
We lose to Sevco in a penalty shoot-out and you think it's the biggest embarrassment in our History You don't seem to know much about our history (you only need to go back one month to the Red Imps game in Gibraltar for a fairly embarrassing result)
You think losing to Sevco on pens was more embarrassing than losing to Red Imps ??? Aye ok Losing to the Red Imps was a bit of a red neck, yes. However it was an absolutely meaningless result. We got through the tie comfortably so it meant nothing in the grand scheme of things. Losing 5-0 to Artmedia, being beaten by Inverness Caledonian Thistle all those years ago and losing to a Championship side in a cup semi final all had big consequences. Being beaten by Red Imps was no disaster.
