gordon janko lustig tierney oconnell mgregror forrest all peanuts, armstong £1m+, griffiths £1m? roberts loan Brown £4m ten year ago

time for a big cash injection to give the Brendan what he needs

when you see that, brendan has led us through a very difficult tie vs a team halfway through their season with a starting team that had

4 academy players
7 scots
3 defenders 20 or under

I'm glad he made a few comments about the support at the game tonight. Some of the moaning when there is a square pass or two is absolutely mad.

Dembele was asked if BR said anything before he came on

There was a guy behind me tonight shouting to "Get the f*cking ball forward" in the 17th minute. This at point when the score line would take us through :nono:

Done well so far considering what's been going on since his arrival in terms of slow additions etc. Very impressed with us against Astana who look a solid side, the kind of side we struggled to break down last year. Showing strong tactical flexibility too and that he can get it across to the players which is a good thing as well.

I can be tough on Brendan but dear god if it was between him and Moyes then Rodgers wins hands down. He's got great potential with us so long as the structure of the club lets him operate at such. Here's hoping but aye, looking good so far :).

BR is a quality manager. He now needs to be provided with the quality signings he wants.

The fans have backed the manager. Lawwell must now do the same.

No more excuses, Lawwell

His post match presser was really good. Spoke excellently about the support needing patience and needing to have faith. Also said that Dembele would be number one penalty taker from here on in which I thought was intriguing.

He's hit the ground running better than I expected given the mess he has been handed, in particular I am delighted with how obvious it is that he has already fixed the repeated mental weaknesses that destroyed us in important games last year. We would have lost that match a year ago, for sure.

I'm really looking forward to seeing what he can do with his own team rather than Ronny's bloated squad of average Scottish league players and underachievers.

Much more measured than RD, fair point re fans being patient but given the last few years it's hardly surprising - if he keeps getting results and showing improvement that will come

Am I the only person who thought the change from a back four to a back three almost cost us the tie? Or is it too soon to criticise BR?

The only thing that could have cost us the game was Gordon's mistakes.

Change was good, they offered no wide threat, Armstrong wasn't doing much and we needed an extra body in MF

That's just not true. They offered no threat at all until the change which allowed their fullbacks to get forward and start stretching our midfield and defence.

We needed to change things but not like that IMO. We needed to calm things down, stop being so frantic.

After that we had no choice but to bring Dembele on for Forrest.
