I did like how he seemed to tinker with the formation in response to Red Imps changing up what they were doing. Izzy was sort of a winger with Ajer doing the wide-left defender thing while we were in attack. When we lost the ball Ajer tucked in and Izzy went to a more standard full back position. I know it's only Red Imps but snuffed them right out. That's basically what was happening in the first half against Wolfsburg too, with Tierney doing what you describe Izaguirre doing.
I've noticed BR like to have 3 spread out across the back when we have the ball. At Liverpool he had Gerrard drop between the centre-backs (like Busquets at Barca, Deier sometimes at Tottenham) and it looked as though he was trying to get Bitton to do the same.
Realising the 4-3-3 wasn't really working (especially with Griffiths out of position) he switched to 4-4-2 but still has a lot of the same features. So the 3 spread across the back are the 2 centre-backs and Lustig, whilst the left back flies up the wing. The left mid comes in to join the two centre mids, like in a 4-3-3.
It's gonna be fun to watch how BR develops this team/systems etc.

Celtic assistant manager Chris Davies says his side will not buy into a 'culture of excuses' as they prepare for a trip to Kazakhstan to face FC Astana. The Hoops eased past Lincoln Red Imps in Wednesday night's Champions league second-leg qualifier, setting up a tie against the Kazakh champions. A six-hour flight beckons for Celtic, with sweltering heat and a plastic pitch waiting on the other side, however Davies was clear that these will not serve as excuses. "We always have a plan when we go on these long journeys," Davies said. "In terms of the players and their readiness to perform, in terms of the diet, the sleep; the whole process of travel. "Each minute is taken care of so we can deal with [the journey]. The players here are brilliant because they don't look for excuses from what we've seen. "There won't be a culture of excuses." Rodgers' right hand man was also wary of the threat that Astana can pose, reflecting on their results in the group stages last year. "This team are good," the 31-year-old added. "They've been in the Champions League last season. "I think they took points off Atlético Madrid, Benfica and Galatasaray at home so we know the challenge. "We know we are a big team, we have to do a big job, so we are looking forward to it, regardless of where it is." http://stv.tv/sport/football/1361358-there-will-be-no-culture-of-excuses-at-celtic-says-assistant-davies/?

Celtic fly out on Monday to Kazakhstan and assistant manager Chris Davies admits they are closing in on their second major signing of the summer, following Moussa Dembele's arrival. The UEFA deadline for new players expires at the end of Thursday but one player can be added afterwards until the end of Tuesday. Celtic have been linked with moves for Aston Villa winger Scott Sinclair and Blackburn defender Shane Duffy. Davies said: "We're hopeful of doing something but the most important thing, it's the right person. Possibly something can be done today (Thursday) but we have the option of the wildcard up until the day before the game, so it gives us a bit of leeway. "It's a big enough squad so we want to bring players in that can improve the team. "We know what we want but it's got to be the right person and the right deal. These things take a little time." Astana clinched their place in the third qualifying round thanks to a late winner against Lithuanian side Zalgiris Vilnius. The win continued Astana's unbeaten home record in the Champions League, which helped them reach the group stages last season. They beat Maribor, HJK Helsinki and Apoel to make history and only lost twice in their group, although they finished bottom. Davies said of Celtic's opponents: "This team are good. They were in the Champions League last season, they got points off Atletico Madrid, Benfica, Galatasaray at home. "So we know the challenge but there are no excuses for us. We are a big team and we have got to do a big job. Regardless of where it is, we are looking forward to going and doing a job." Celtic have experience of playing in Astana's stadium, losing 2-0 to Shakhter Karagandy three years ago before overturning the deficit at Parkhead. And, with Astana's progress last season, there is ample information allowing manager Brendan Rodgers and his backroom team to prepare for their test. "We will go through a thorough process, like we have done already looking at potential opponents," Davies said. "There is no doubt they are a good team, they have some quality in there. But in terms of where we sit against them, we are confident we can do a job. "We played (Russian team) Anzhi Makhachkala (when Davies and Rodgers were with Liverpool) and they were a very well-funded team. It's a little bit of the unknown but these days you can get a lot of the information you need. "We've got a really strong scouting network and do a lot of work on the opposition. We'll be fully ready for them and we will know the level and know what to expect." Another challenge is Astana's artificial surface, along with the travelling and heat. "You do have to prepare for it," Davies said. "We always have a plan for these long journeys in terms of the players and their readiness to perform, in terms of the diet, the sleep, the process of the travel. Each minute is taken care of. "The players are brilliant because they don't look for excuses, they will get on the flight and we'll get off and train and get ready for the game. There won't be a culture of excuses." Before then, Leicester visit Parkhead in the International Champions Cup pre-season tournament on Saturday, and several Celtic players are likely to be rested following their 3-0 win over Lincoln Red Imps. "We have a big pool of players that we can use," Davies said. "So we'll put a plan in place that makes sure we are protecting players that we feel are going to be playing for us in the Champions League, but also give some minutes to other players as well. "We'll have a plan in place to make sure everyone is getting the right physical condition from the game, and we'll be able to put on a good performance as well. "It's the English champions against the Scottish champions. They are a team that produced a sporting miracle last year. "They were the top team last year in England so it's going to be a great measure for our players to go up against them and see where we fit." http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/celtic-assistant-boss-chris-davies-8464952#FajH1HAPAbrEkkoh.99

Surprised he's cool (presumably) with taking this squad into the next qualifier.
He's certainly taking his life into his hands.

He's certainly taking his life into his hands. What odds would you get on him resigning tomorrow stating no support from the board? He has a reputation and won't want it ruined with perceived failure up here in a diddy league

Don't be ridiculous Why is it ridiculous? He said he would have financial backing, it's looking like he was lied to.

Kinda what i said tonight to a colleague.....
Heres hoping Brendan isnt a yes sir, no sir, three bags full sir to the board. If they are going back on what theyve promised him or dicking about with offers that they know wont be accepted for players hes identified then he needs to have the baws to stand up and say so. I get the impression after some of the forced/persuaded signings at Liverpool that he wouldnt risk his reputation again especially not when hes Dermots man, that alone must carry some influence.

Stop being silly.

We're flying out on Monday? I guess we're not going to bother trying to acclimatise to the time difference and just try to treat it like a regular 3pm kickoff?

He's playing a risky game. Looks like he's going to have to earn his pay. Shame that doesn't apply to Pistol Pete.
Keep it tight & hit on the break. Bring back a clean sheet & hope for an away goal. Don't play with the imposters - this is the bit that worries me the most.

From what I heard we are really struggling to move unwanted players on - that was before the away game v imps
So nothing much has changed since then
With championship players getting 65k a week we are out of our league there
The lack of concrete offer on Duffy, krungthep info on our bids for Sinclair being laughed at suggest we are in our usual position
We are exposed coming into biggest games of season and won't risk it financially to bring in before we get rid
It is Groundhog Day and we all hoped for better post br and dembele coming in
But you can see the case pl will make for not risking and unfortunately it looks like he's still being listened to
