Rodgers also promised high tempo, fast pressing football. Where was it?
It's the same old problem.
You can't deliver that style of football with energy free footballers.

The team, not just the squad, needs gutted.

Not sure that this was the game or the pitch for that. There is no denying that this was an utter embarrassment and the poorest result in our history, but let's wait till we all panic. We should be destroying this side, but we didnt. Let's see how we do next week on the pitch and the coming weeks in the transfer market before we slaughter the manager.

Deila promised it too but it only happened now and again and was at its best with Johansen playing at ten. I know you don't rate Stefan and he will be moving on so we'll no bother about him but if Rodgers is serious how the eff can he pick a midfield of Brown, Bitton & Rogic? I'm no his biggest fan but McGregor has at least got the energy to get about the pitch. Those three I mentioned previously have no legs.at all.

Can understand managers, particularly new ones not wanting to down cry his team publicly after a bad performance but theres other times you need to machine gun them as publicly as possible, absolutely no-one believes what Rodgers said in the aftermath tonight so blowing smoke up our arses has absolutely zero effect.

If Brown and Biton play in the same Celtic team again, barring any major injury crisis, he isn't a good football manager

Thats the honeymoon well and truly over then.

Was vocal enough before he signed in stating i didn't want him as manager.

I hope to eff he gets a positive results next week and get the support of the board in bringing in a few players, more than a few IMO as the squad needs gutting and has for a while.

My biggest concern is the fact he seems to really want to keep the likes of Mulgrew, etc...

The Brown-Bitton combination came about as a result of a messy compromise when Deila moved to 4-2-3-1. Johansen isn't a holding player and there weren't any alternatives so he stuck them in there and hoped for the best. The reality is they aren't good at playing those positions and we'll struggle to play high-tempo football with them in the team.

I've been a fan of Brown and I think he was excellent when Lennon was around but he looks done. There comes a time when even the captain has to be moved on. As I said on the match thread, Stein got rid of guys who'd won in Lisbon so it should be possible to get rid of Brown too. Bitton might be better suited to the tempo of Spanish football so perhaps it's time for that move to Espanyol after all.

With Griffiths and Roberts he has changed the things that didn't need changed.
With Brown, Bitton and Efe he has stuck with the things that were crying out for change.

Baffling and slightly worrying...

started Ambrose - even though we all know he will cost you time & time again

started Brown & Bitton - even though we all know that they are completely devoid of urgency, pace & creativity in the centre of the park.

started Griffiths on the right - even though we all know he can't play there & is far more effective through the middle.

his subs were effing baffling, why the eff is Forrest still in the mix? also when the games against you, one of the last players you turn to is Stuart Armstrong ffs!

he'll really be shooting himself in the foot if he actively chooses not to play Paddy Roberts going forward.

an embarrassing night for the club & for Rodgers, hopefully he learns his lessons quickly.

There is no doubting that he got it wrong, but he also has a squad of players who throughout last year showed an utter inability to play this type of fast, pressing football. Couple that with a pitch which only highlighted their inadequacies we ended up with an abysmal result. He has been in charge for less than a month. It is not unrealistic to believe that he, like all of us expected this group, poor though they are to negotiate this tie without the need of major reconstruction. I still think that this will come. This will come after we progress into the next round, which we will do quite comfortably.

Good Celtic teams have had 4/5 captains on the park.

Great Celtic teams have had 7/8 captains on the park.

We're desperate for one captain on the park.
eff me, I'd take Captains Mainwaring and Pugwash right now.
Sorry but neither of them were Captains in the Box to Box midfielders mould that we need but Capt Peacock would give this team some Spine.

We're complete Shiedt.

Yes lets blame Rodgers... :brickwall: Peter Lawwell is the problem, stalling on signings and not looking at the best interests of the team.
Who picked the team tonight? Who played Griffiths on right wing? Who kept Roberts on bench? Who put Ciftci on?
There was an article in the papers kast week (I posted it on here) with Griffiths and he said that BR wants him to play on the right coming in, with Dembele up front.
Griffiths said he would pkay anywhere etc but it takes time to implement change, as we saw tonight.

So BR has set out his plan to the players, does he stick like Delia or does he revert back to our norm (Griffiths up front) to get us through next week?

Dembele alongside Griffiths with Roberts coming in from the right?

Maybe not but we both know Rodgers time at the club will be judged on a lot more than 1 game. He's been in the job 3 weeks - things will improve significantly. Rodgers will learn a lot from tonight.

When people talk to Lennon, they don't talk to him because he's Lenny. It's because he's a friend of an accountant from an internet Celtic Supporters forum.

Strachan made some pretty big calls after Artmedia, bringing Boruc, Maloney, McManus etc into the side and he got a reaction in the return leg and league games that followed. I think Rodgers has to do similar next week. Would not be against McGregor, Ajer, Henderson and Roberts all coming in.

I know it's all very well with hindsight and it in no way makes that result any less embarrassing or humiliating, but he has learned more tonight in that defeat than a couple of lacklustre, pedestrian wins ever would have provided.

Hope he has the balls to do what's necessary on the back of it now.
