Yes lets blame Rodgers... :brickwall: Peter Lawwell is the problem, stalling on signings and not looking at the best interests of the team.
Who picked the team tonight? Who played Griffiths on right wing? Who kept Roberts on bench? Who put Ciftci on?

Ciftci did well - by comparison. Dembele was anonymous.

Correct. Players were bad but he had a nightmare

I never wanted Rodgers cos he strikes me as a system man and one with a philosophy. When he got the job I was relatively happy, thought it signalled a change of direction for the club and have a season book to support the club.

Tonight though was very, very bad. He claims to have watched our entire games last season and comes up with that.

The team as a whole isn't good enough, Rodgers has identified this and asked for his targets to be brought in which hasn't happened. Roberts has been carrying a knock and hasn't fully trained with the squad over pre season.

Getting on a bit
[ * * * * * * * * * * ]
Artmedia Bratislava was a worse result because we lost 5 goals and couldn't pull it back in the second leg!
We should win the return leg against this mob by a few goals but he really needs to bring in a spine for the team.
That means CB, CMs and forward that he trusts!
Tonight proved conclusively that we are miles away from being a CL team unless we spend approximately £20 + wages on those four players !
A season in the EL might allow him time to get things the way he wants them without gettin even more embarrassed than we were tonight!

Thought Dembele was decent in the first half, can't be anywhere near fit yet though and it showed second half, Griffiths and Armstrong did ok too, Ciftci tried hard, Erik ok too...ffs I'm clutching at straws here

I knew he was very similar to Deila in his philosophy and ethos. He needs to show he is more flexible in his tactics and ruthless with the underperforming players.

Can I ask if you know this for sure about targets of are you guessing?

Brendan. Message to you. That was an embarrassment. Every Celtic fan should be embarrassed by that. The single worst defeat in our history. If that is not an embarrassment in your opinion then heaven knows what is.

Rodgers is a top manager and Celtic fan, we must trust him and the board must back him fully.

To try and deny that was an embarrassment isn't doing him any favours.

Just fess up. By all means say we'll put it right next week but don't try and kid folk on about the gravity of that result

He needs to fix this and pronto. You would think the huns have strengthened so if they hit the ground running and we are struggling that to me doesn't bear thinking about.

I still hold onto the belief that the board are not gonna bring a big name in but not back him. They have to. It might now take more money but it is needed and big time. No CL isn't an option this year. It simply isn't.

Rodgers is a good manager. At some point people will realize we are attempting make sub-standard talents turn into the kind of Celtic players we want to see.

The slide and gamble in Europe continues unabated.

I'm bemused at how he thinks it wasn't embarrassing.

I guess a good result in the 2nd leg and we move on...but still it was a bizarre thing to say.

I'll be honest. I'd rather we chose Moyes as I think he's defensively sound, could source good CBs for little money and we'd eventually play good stuff under him. However I was happy with Rodgers as I thought it showed a change in intent from the board. I was kinda concerned after all the fans turned up that Rodgers might be the Blue Chip signing and the board would think that was enough and some fans in here seemed to think he would be the difference. We need to spend money & Rodgers needs to work fast. If it is the club stalling he needs to use his status now. If he doesn't and we fail to qualify fir Champions League he will diminish in the eyes of the fans and won't get to weild the power he currently has.

I said it last season. Our chances of qualification to the group stages this season are slim at best, regardless of the manager.

So Brendan, you have had your pre-season games where you have always seen a vastly improved performance when you have played the younger, hungrier guys, but tonight you played the guys no one wants to see in a celtic team?????

ARE YOU DELIA IN DISGUISE?

The vast majority creamed their pants when you were appointed (i was not one of them) but no matter what the pre season games showed you you went for a team that was almost guaranteed to get that result!

McGregor has been our best midfielder for the last 6 months or so, where was he? Roberts has been the only player likely to create something for us over the same period, where was he? Our 40 goal striker was played out wide, why?
Why did you, like soooooooo many other celtic managers of the past 5 years play Efe in an important game? Why is Bitton still at the club?

Are you the manager, or do you suffer the same disease as Delia, because the team that played tonight was probably the exact same team that Delia would have played, and people thought you were a better manager than him?
I'm fond of Brendan but can't disagree with much of that. I'm disappointed in his lack of courage to act on his intelligence gathering. The most profound difference is to be gained from axing an underperforming captain in favour of a driven leader with sensible supportive instincts. The change in performance of colleagues can be extreme. Popularity is overrated, but it's always been Brendan's Achilles. He knows Sviatchenko is the one to build his team around but he's scared of the dramatic consequences. The short term ego flux and perceived pecking order adjustment is worth bearing for the long term rewards including CL qualification.
