Big Erik seems so keen. He's been putting up videos of him training himself, as have a few other lads. Good attitude!
Think most of the younger guys are told they are only to take two weeks as a proper holiday and after that they are each given personalised training plans to keep in shape over the summer

Was Mulgrew at training today?
No sign of Mulgrew, Izzy, Johansen, Bitton, or Scepovic in the pics. The first four were playing international football over the summer (but so was Rogic who was there today).

Also no sign of the players who were injured at the end of the season - Boyata, Simunovic, Commons, GMS.

Had read Fisher was out of contract but he was there today.
Boyata and Commons were both there.

Pretty sure you see GMS and Suminovic in the Kieran Tierney interview on Celtic webpage.

Why is Kennedy still in his role? I would have thought he'd leave with Deila.

JOHN KENNEDY admits he has been blown away by Brendan Rodgers’ attention to detail.

The former Celtic defender will continue in the role of first-team coach under the new Hoops boss.

Kennedy insists it was too good a chance to turn down as Rodgers demands the highest standards.

He said: “The manager could have brought his own people in and I could have moved on. But Brendan came in and I spoke to him just after he was appointed. We talked about his views and he asked me to be part of his coaching team.

“Chris Davies has come in and it’s an honour to work with them.

“It’s an opportunity for me to learn and, having been here a long time, I can hopefully add something to them.

“I’d like to manage further down the line and at this moment in time, I’ve been given a chance to stay and work with a top manager. That can only stand me in good stead for when I move on.”

Kennedy has been impressed by former Liverpool boss Rodgers’ attention to detail.

He added: “It was a very social chat when we met. He just asked for my opinion on players and Scottish football.

“He also gave me his vision on how he sees things moving forward and how he wants the team to play. He spoke about standards and he is very precise.

“Even for a meeting or training session, he’s taken things up a notch, to the minute detail.

“The colours of the cones and the poles have to be the same and the pitch must look a certain way when we go out.

“We are a top club and we need to have top standards.

“That’s the way he works and it’s great for everybody.”

Kennedy revealed Celtic, who returned to training yesterday, are still in negotiations over a new contract for Charlie Mulgrew and confirmed crocked Croat defender Jozo Simunovic could miss the Champions League qualifiers.

Celtic yesterday drew Estonia’s Flora or Gibraltar side Lincoln in the second round and Kennedy hopes the pain of last year’s loss to Malmo will drive them on.

He said: “We have players who have been through the hurt of it and that in itself is a big thing.”

I doubt Kennedy will ever be appointed manager without first having a spell in charge somewhere (I know this wasnt the case with Lennon but at least for the time being ambitions seem to be higher).

John Kennedy has insisted that Celtic will not risk Jozo Simunovic back prematurely as the Hoops prepare for the UEFA Champions League qualifiers.

The first competitive game of Brendan Rodgers’ regime will begin in either Estonia or Gibraltar against Flora Tallinn of Lincoln Red Imps as the Parkhead side seek to make it into the group stages of the tournament for the first time in three years.

But assistant Kennedy has maintained that Croatian under-21 internationalist Simunovic won’t be pushed back onto the pitch before he is ready. The defender hasn’t played since the end of January after a problematic knee injury which ultimately required surgery.

Celtic paid just over £5m last year for Simunovic but his maiden campaign was marked by various different injury issues. Dedryck Boyata is also still out with a hamstring injury and could be touch and go for the opening qualifier which will take place on either the 12th or 13 July.

“Both never trained today,” said Kennedy. “Jozo has a bit of work to do and Dedryck was scanned. Hopefully he’s not too bad.

“We’ll monitor them over a few weeks.

“It’s hard to say if they will play in the qualifiers. Jozo might take a bit longer than Dedryck but we want everyone back fit as soon as possible.

“We want to make sure he’s right and if we have to give him a few more weeks then we’ll do it. We don’t want to set him back for longer again as he’s had a tough enough time of it.

“We have a big squad to deal with it so it’s not a problem.”

Meanwhile, Kennedy has also revealed that contract negotiations are ongoing with Charlie Mulgrew.

The versatile Scotland internationalist was not at Lennoxtown yesterday for the beginning of pre-season training but talks are continuing about his immediate future.

“His representatives and the club are in negotiations and I think that’s where we’re at,” he said.

“Charlie wasn’t here today as he’s not under contract.”

And Kennedy has also revealed that preparations for the European campaign have already kicked off at Lennoxtown.

“At the early stage you don’t know a lot about the opposition, but the planning has started and we will get the teams covered and do our homework,” he said.

“We’ll be prepared and the important thing is to get the players fit and strong and with plenty game time going into the qualifiers.

“We take any opponent seriously because if you don’t you could end up in a spot of bother.

“We approach every opponent the same way and that’s why pre-season is so important.”

“Whatever you are drawn against you have to put up a performance to win you the game.”

I wonder how much Kennedy is paid?

I also wonder what it is that he does to earn it?

He seems super impressed by the idea of being able to put out colour coordinated cones...

I'm just guessing but they probably need someone to give Brendan and his staff the lowdown on opposition teams & player's up here as well as getting some inside info on how the players performed last season & what are their strengths & weaknesses.

I don't know enough of JK but it's sensible to have someone on the coaching team to give the manager the low down on how things are up here.

We have probably contributed to him going through his coaching badges. The club have looked after a young guy who had his career ripped away from him and he's well thought of enough to be kept on by the new manager. No issues with that.

For years Celtic didnt look after people who gave a lot to the club. Now we see guys like John Clark, David Hay, Danny McGrain and Tom Boyd all have roles in and around the club. Thats the way it should be.

There is nothing to suggest that Kennedy isn't competent in what he does. If Rodgers wants someone with a local knowledge then having last years first team coach can only help.

I dont get the animosity on here about it.

It`s an interesting coaching team. There`s barely any first team experience at a playing level between the three of them, next to no trophies as players.

Raw hunger to right that as coaches and managers should be there, any player taking for granted or wasting what they have been given should be sought out and hunted by these three youngish guys who all had playing careers cut short due to injury at the outset.

Brendan has a wealth of coaching experience the others don`t have. He has a good track record of improving players who want to be improved and that attention to detail should be a bonus. He should have learned from mistakes made Liverpool in terms of team building and tactical naivety.

Looking forward to this but he`s got big decisions to make in the coming weeks, there`s far too many midfielders in the squad for a start .

Ronny could have been colour blind. I sometimes get vanilla instead of mint with my cone because I pointed to the wrong colour in the chiller. It's a burden I have to live with but I don't let it get me down.
