He's so much more reserved than he was at Swansea or Liverpool, I guess maybe he has learned the lesson from talking a big game before and getting slated for it, hopefully looking for his teams to do the talking on the park for him here.
Possibly because of his attachment to the club? Might not want to upset family, or undermine the history of the club imposing his personality upon it in such an outward fashion as perhaps he did at Liverpool and Swansea.
Could be the case certainly, I'd like to think he has learned something from his time at Liverpool and decided to take a different approach, Desmond must have laid it on thick to him about filling the stadium because he brings it up in every interview hes done so far(not that its bad thing).

It's a win-win, in theory. I think the only way to fill Celtic Park every week is a combination of attractive, winning football with a high profile player or manager in our ranks, and for that high profile player or manager to semi-guilt us into turning up.

People have said on here for several seasons that we can't re-fill the stadium, that 1998-2004 was a different era that can't be replicated for economic reasons, both Scottish football economy and the national economy's impact on the wallets of the support.

But here we are, with a good chance of getting back to what McCann felt we were big enough to achieve, regardless of economic conditions. I hope we do get 55,000+ every game; it would be lovely to see. Rodgers's appointment couldn't have come more out of left-field, and it's knocked us all for six(ty tousand :ph43r: )!

The problem is getting people out to games. We had around 40k season tickets last year and there must have been coming up for 20k stay at homes for loads of games. If we push season tickets sales up to 50k that's great but if they don't turn out to back the team...
Expect big attendances to begin with but it must be sustained. People need to see it as a circle - the greater the attendance, the better the atmosphere, the better the performance, the better the income, the more money for players of better quality and so on coming back to the greater the attendance.

Very well put.

Of course, that equation also works in reverse--which is something that seven-figure exec Lawwell never quite managed to grasp. Thankfully, DD did!

A good turnout for the early games is almost certain, but it'll take some good football to keep the numbers up. A couple of big wins in the early CL qualifiers when we're playing the likes of the champions of Luxembourg along with some good wins in the early domestic games will help, but they key to the season (as ever) will be the harder CL qualifiers when we play teams that, in recent years at least, have made life hard for us. Beat this year's version of Karagandy/Legia/Maribor/Malmo, and beat them well, and we should see decent attendances throughout the season. No-one's really expecting this squad to do anything amazing in the CL proper, but as long as they don't completely embarrass themselves again and are at least competitive - hopefully in for the third place if nothing else - then I think that just being there at the big table will keep the feel-good factor going. Oh and it is of course imperative that we pump Sevco rotten at every opportunity we get.

Give the supporters hope that they'll see something worth watching, and the supporters will be there. I think Rodgers understands that.

Agreed. You will however get people who will spit the dummy if we don't qualify for the CL and in my view that's not good enough.

Time people realised there are no quick fixes and everyone including the supporters need to stay on board. I have no doubt that with BR there are many happy days ahead. They might not all come in the first few months though.

That depends who we draw. New or not I would expect to get past a good few of the potential opponents.
As for filling the place, I wonder if he's on a bonus for the number of increased sales. :)

Glad to see Brendan getting things right (his way) off the park now we can set about getting what he wants right ON the park.

I expect some transfer action in the coming couple of weeks both IN & OUT.

Two things jump out at me, the first, they know what is required, albeit he doesn't give away much detail. That leads onto two, they both know how to handle the press up here.

The last question, where he states we need some quality, really gets me excited. We have some decent players in our team, although most of them were nowhere near the form we need from them. We need two or three special players which, I think, will get the best out of the others around them.

'What have you noticed from last season that you might want to change?

"With all due respect to the previous management team, it maybe wouldn't be right to go into detail. We've just looked at areas of the team where we think we could potentially improve or areas that are strong. We've been looking at it objectively without the emotion of how it's been." '

Liked this bit.

Most would love to see a big name striker arrive, however sometimes the team needs players that allow others to be more effective in their roles!

Against Malmo, we led 2-0 then 3-1 but couldn't close out those winning positions.

So someone who might not excite the fans too much but who would give us that ability to see out games might be very profitable in getting us in to the CL and the money which would allow us to sign better players!

IMH we don't possess that quietly effective player - so signing one old be my priority, hopefully having watched all the goals we have shipped in the last couple of years, it will be Brendan's priority too

If it isn't then he can GTF

i think it wil take a bit of time to work out EXACTLY what we need, but i would think they know already we need a good centre back just by looking at the goals we conceded last season, i can wait to get the right man/balance for the team.
