Neil is a Celtic legend and was a good manager at the right time.

But I'm delighted we made this appointment. Its obvious a Lennon return wouldnt have generated the same level of interest.

Hope it works. And I hope Neil gets back in the game - he might end up back one day
x2 What he went through for us should buy him a lot of credit with fans forever.
You would think so :(

I'll be honest, when this was announced on Friday I wasnt overly excited. I thought Brendan was Deila-esque, single minded, gung-ho with no idea how to organise a defense. No idea where that came from really, as I dont think I've ever really watched any of his teams. I probably listened to too many numpties on here. :ph43r:

Since Friday, I've watched everything, read everything I could. This is THE man for Celtic, he gets it, he gets us and he's going to get 10 in a row. I couldnt be more excited about the new season.

I hope folk wont be calling for his head should we not qualify for CL in his first season. Regardless of how easy the draw is perceived it's still quite a big ask for a new manager and especially the state of the team he is inheriting. A lot is needing done to change the players mindset into being 'winners' and will take time

Don't think anyone will be calling for his head but he's not getting paid fortunes to win the SPFL. Champions League qualification is the target. Failure to achieve that would put a huge dampener on the season and Rodgers will know that better than anyone.

With our seeding, there is no excuse for not making the CL.

No excuses whatsoever, all we have to do is beat a selection of small scandanavian teams with a far eastern one thrown in.

agree with this.
add in that you shouldn't get sacked from Bolton and walk into the Celtic job.

We have to make the group stages. Have to. We need the effing money really, really badly.

If that isn't his overwhelming initial focus, it should be.

I'd be happy with a solid run in the Europa League this season (unless of course we spend 15 million or something), the problem is not with that competition but rather the post Last 16 era glory hunters who turn their nose up at it and then Parkhead ends up a half empty damp squib on match nights.

That said, with a decent draw, 2 key signings in defence & midfield & maybe the more 'competitive' edge that these International Champions Cup matches may bring, we have every chance being ready for the challenges the early qualifiers bring.

I'm confident

That's the nub of it. A season in the EL would be OK in most ways given the circumstances, but we could really do with the cash injection that the CL brings. I dare say that Lawwell will have made that point abundantly clear to Rodgers in their discussions over the past couple of weeks, so he knows what's expected of him.

We will make the CL next season. There's no way we are going all out with the manager if he isn't going to be backed. Get the right players in and we will make the CL.

EL, the competition, has had better games in it the last 2 season

I'd be well happy with 3rd in CL group then a run in the EL most seasons as we're never gonna win the thing

If we don't make CL then we should be aiming for last 32 as a minimum in EL. This competition is winnable for a club our size.

One of the things that pissed me off about the press the other day, was the way the painted it like we have been miles away from qualifying the last two years.

Lets be honest about it, any manager that could competently set out a team would have got us to the Group stages.

Even then, We were Johansen blocking a shot on Maribor's goal line and a couple of set pieces against Malmo away from qualifying.

Don't fancy an away trip to Kashima Antlers right enough.

Like any other manager he needs some breaks to get through the qualifiers, he has 7-10 weeks to get his message across to exisiting players and any new recruits. He needs to get them doing the basics well in that time, needs to be lucky with injuries, incomings and outgoings and also lucky with the draw.

We should have beat Malmo etc with out budget but they still had one big advantage of being well into their season when we played them. Malmo punched well above their weight by being familiar with each other, compact and well organised and having desire and leaders in the likes of Rosenberg.

We were more than some bad set piece defending away from qualifying for last seasons CL, we were a whole mindset away from it, he needs to look for players whose arse doesn`t collapse in adversity or have them trusting him so much in that short space of time that they`ll follow his instructions implicitly.

He`s got our unwavering support now, he needs that from every other effer at the clubt o take us through them first time at such short notice.

All season with Ronny's team I never felt secure at 2-0, we always looked likely to make a bollox of it. If we lost a goal, the heads went down and we threw away the result.
I hope I'm right in thinking BR will have us better organised and likely to make it 3-0.
