Excellent piece CBN.

The numbers show he's had a great season and also shows the importance of getting real, experienced quality beside him in order to take his game to that next level.

Saturday shows that he can really break the press when he strides into midfield.

He seems to panic a bit though once in the last third. If he finds that final simple killer pass, he will be a real attacking asset also.

Yeah he's good at it, just needs to lift his head a bit more and look for the pass. It'll come to him with experience.

KIERAN TIERNEY is living out his boyhood dream as a Celtic hero.

But for Kristoffer Ajer, the prospect of losing him to Everton is a NIGHTMARE.

The Norwegian isn’t shocked in the slightest that the Toffees are set to launch a £25million bid for KT.

Ajer knew it was only a matter of time before mega-rich English clubs targeted the powerful full-back.

But the Celtic defender is still praying the record-breaking move to Goodison Park doesn’t come off.

Asked about Everton’s interest in Tierney, Ajer said: “I’m not surprised.

“KT has been fantastic and has really helped me a lot coming into the group. He’s just a fantastic full-back and it’s great to play with him.

“He’s a massive Celtic fan so it’s really nice. He knows a lot about the club and its history.

“It’s just nice to see such a big Celtic fan playing for the team.

“But when you play for Celtic, do well and have won the Treble twice, there is always going to be interest in you.

“KT’s been tremendous for us and has proved himself over a number of seasons.

“But yes of course we are desperate for this group to stay together. KT is an important player in the squad and we want him to stay.”

Ajer would badly miss his defensive buddy if KT does head for the Premier League.

And his exit would only heap more pressure on the young Norwegian.

With Mikael Lustig and Dedryck Boyata at the World Cup, the 20-year- old now has extra responsibility.

But Ajer has no fears about accepting that burden going into the Champions League qualifiers.

He said: “First and foremost I’m just delighted for the guys playing so many games in the World Cup and playing well.

“Dedryck’s worked very hard for this, so it’s fantastic to see. There’s always responsibility when you play with Celtic.

“When you play for such a massive club with expectations of winning every game there’s always pressure when you play.

“That’s why you love being a footballer, to play in those special games. Hopefully they keep coming.”

Ajer was plunged into a key Champions League qualifier against Rosenborg last season amid an injury crisis.

Back then, he was a nervy novice. Now he has Norway caps and is viewed as a regular for Celtic.

Yet the giant defender won’t get ideas above his station — and insists he doesn’t take his status for granted.

Ajer said: “I look at it as a completely the same as last year. I still have a lot to prove.

“I only played half a season last year and I need to develop a lot in my game to be a Celtic player.

“So I’m just looking forward to the challenge and hopefully I’ll be involved this year as well.

“I feel I am developing well, I’m learning a lot from the gaffer, the staff and all the players around me.

“It’s a fantastic environment to be a part of. That’s why I signed my new contract.”

Celtic are expected to be too strong for Armenian minnows Alashkert in the first qualifier.

But Ajer insists there will be zero complacency among Rodgers’ squad — with Lincoln Red Imps still fresh in their memory.

He said: “That game proves every team you meet in Champions League qualification can hurt you if you are not 100 per cent ready on the day.

“But we will be 100 per cent ready and focused. We will know everything about our opponents.

“You just have to accept that there’s an extra round this year and be ready for all the challenges that are coming.

“We are meeting a good team from Armenia in the first round and that’s our only focus right now.

“Of course it will be warm and that’s a challenge for us. But we’re really looking forward to it.

“Every Champions League qualifier is really tough and we need to be up for them to go through and that is our plan for these games.

“You can never take a game easy in the Champions League qualifiers, because you know you are meeting winners from different leagues and they will be right up for it.”

Ajer played 45 minutes as Celtic lost 1-0 to Bohemians Prague on Saturday — and could get a full 90 against Sparta tomorrow.

A rare Tierney error led to the Czech side’s winner in Austria as every member of the Hoops side got a run out.

With Marvin Compper now fit, there is extra competition for Rodgers in the Hoops defence.

But Ajer is up for the battle as he looks to build on his impressive form last season.

He said: “There are a lot of good players who want to play and that really encourages you to do well in training and work even harder, so that’s really positive for us.”

“Obviously we have been training hard in the last two weeks and we knew that we would be a bit tired in Saturday’s game.

“But it was about getting match fitness and we did that.

“You have to get into again and playing half a game helps to build your fitness back up going into the next games.”
