I'm absolutely stoked to have us target young players with this much professionalism & potential, Ajer will have a fantastic career.

If we are also getting guys like NtCham, (Edouard, Roberts & Musonda loans) as well as the likes of Christie, Morgan & Hendry from Scottish Clubs - then I'm more than happy to allow them to develop & make the odd mistake.

It's the right approach & one that we can really build on with a manager/coach such as Brendan.
We have money to spend on quality like ntcham for defence rather than having midfielders retrain as central defenders

Bitton was there as stop gap and now ajer as an apprentice with his training being left in hands of boyata jozo and Gordon behind him

It's all loved up in here now cause we battered them but it won't be if we run with this defence in later stages of qualifying and God forbid its Hendry and ajer

We have the money if we have the scouts

He’s a midfielder.
Why do you say that? I know he played midfield in youth football and in Norway but in the vast majority of his games in Scotland he has been a defender. Loads of examples of players playing different positions when they make their first team break through.

Ajer is 19  he isn’t being retrained as anything. He was 17 when we decided he was Centre Half

This weird British/Scottish suspicion of players being able to change positions or actually be adaptable is bizarre

He is developing really well by my eyes and hasn't looked out of place since coming in. There are definitely things for him to work on like his tendency to jump in and go to ground at points where ushering the player away would be the better option and the way to reacts to balls played in between him and Tierney but show me a defender his age playing football at this level who is the finished article. I think he's played about 20 league games this year as well so he's by no means had a full season's worth of games to get there. VVD was the best defender I've seen in the flesh play for Celtic and he wasn't totally faultless but there was enough there from the get go to give him that time to improve which proved to be a sensible decision.

I've got really high hopes for Ajer because he's dominating (and seemingly improving on that game by game), good at closing space, a great passer with an eye for counter attacking movement and he's only 20. I'm hoping Europe next season is where he can show the step up he's made.

Cool, but it's Ajer I'd keep in the team.

Similar to KT, he's only going to get better with experience & we can trust him now.

Build the defence around KT & Ajer.

Spoiler: click to toggle

He should probably be here - right in line with the run and perfectly placed to track it

It’s McGregor’s man. He is at fault. It was a decent pass and he didn’t track his man.
Yep. I think Ajer actually reads the situation quite well.
"where are Brown and Ntcham?" is a bit simplistic as well as though it's up to them to handle every run in front of the defence. Brown's in the images I posted marking a totally different player so to ask where he is in reply to my images is a genuinely crazy thing to ask. Ntcham's there too defending a space rather than a man. Probably exactly where you'd want him to be in case the ball is switched to the right wing. McGregor's also in the image thinking "shampoo, there's that dude I should be marking belting through onto our defence, I should've done something about that"

"where are Brown and Ntcham?" :cuckoo:

Quality yet again. I love how he charges forward if there's any free space in front of him, we haven't had that since VVD.

Felt he was culpable for the goal today - goes with Lafferty initially then gets sucked toward the ball leaving that big hun carrot free. Other than that absolutely solid and one mazy run in the second half that took two players to get the ball of him.

I think having him with either the Boyata from the past two games or a new experienced CB will make a huge difference to CL qualifiers this season.

Seems to get attracted to where the ball at times rather than just hold off and look after the forward.

It's happened a couple of times recently. Perhaps a consequence of playing as a midfielder.

Getting noticed in the reserves

Thought he was one of our more creative players yesterday!

I know he is still raw in some areas but people on here need to remember this guys age and the fact that he is playing CH. CH is the main position where experience is required and you rarely see 19 year old 1st team CH at a high level. This guy today is one of the best young centre halfs in Europe who can only improve over the next couple of seasons.

Some people on here need to chill a litle bit and look at the bigger picture. We are bringing in a young CH with huge potential who will make the odd mistake, but FFS, we are in an environment where we can afford to allow this to happen short term as we will still win the league. If there was serious competition the this would be more difficult, but right now we are in the perfect situation of being able to develop the young players that deserve the chance. IF we get a stronger challenge at any point, we will be glad to have this guy in the team with a season or two's experience under his belt already.

Hail Hail

When he susses out his weaknesses and strengths he'll be some defender.
Like Reiper but the odd mad dash like Mjallby. :rocker:
