Done ok in what was his fourth game in a fortnight - and that is a lot for a young player. However he did make a few mistakes that showed he still has a lot to learn. What a prospect though.

This. Put him beside Big Marvin and he will learn and develop into a top class centre back.

Overall today he played well

But at least three times in the second half he lost his marker, and it almost led to a goal

Hes young and he`ll learn in time, hopefully
He was caught out a couple of times today and it's a key area of his game he needs to work on. But you'd expect that type of error from a 19-year old relatively new to the position.

he will get bye at center half playing for Celtic in the spl due to our current dominance and the opposition not seeing much of the ball

however he is even slower than Erik the slow and will get horrendously exposed outwith the spl against any team with a pacy forward

he would be grand as the holding midfielder due to his passing ability but don't see much game time for him there in the current set up.

Heard the same, often, in the JS Lower today. “Aww FFS, get rid of the ball.”

Would far rather see him try and take the ball out of defence than the easy Boyata option of giving it to Gordon. I don’t have the stats, but I’d reckon the former caused us far fewer problems today.

He’s a breath of fresh air.

Plenty of top class cb's have been slow. He's just a kid who has a chance, positioning and ability will go a long way to making up for a lack of real pace but the biggest is experience and for that he needs to play. Ideally with a player he can learn from.

Correct.
Caught on the turn today but that will come good with experience. Overall he did well and I think last season at Killie has helped him kick on.

I thought he was very decent.
His development if it continues as of late will mean a very good player/prospect on our books.

He's a 19 year old midfielder who has probably played himself into our first-choice CB partnership after 12 months learning the role.

This lad is absolutely brilliant. A career at the absolute top awaits the boy, and I can't think of a better man than Brendan Rodgers to be learning his trade under.

Just saw on the DR website (no links) them saying that Lars Lagerback (Norwegian Coach) is thinking is thinking of calling him up to the Senior Norwegian Squad after his displays recently

Extract:

Celtic kid Kristoffer Ajer will win his first cap for Norway when their next squad is named after impressing manager Lars Lagerback with his performance against Rangers. The 19-year-old made his first derby start in the goalless draw at the weekend, slotting into central defence alongside Dedryck Boyata, and Ajer is now set for call-up to the main squad when they play their next set of friendlies in March.

Norway assistant manager Per Joar Hansen said:
"Kristoffer is a player we have been following closely. Lars and I spoke about him over the Christmas period and I can tell you that Lars has been really impressed he is now playing for Celtic. For him to get into the team and such a young age is really good for him. He is physically strong and very good in the air. We also think he is excellent at reading a game. He uses his strength wisely and is getting better with each game. He is a leader and that is something that has been missing in Norwegian football. It is very promising that at such young age he has managed to play in a top team like Celtic, where he plays in front of 50,000 spectators in every home game. He must deal with heavy pressure all the time and deserves praise for the achievements. There are vacancies in central defence and there's no doubt he is in our thoughts for the next squad announcement."

BEEFED-UP Kristoffer Ajer is ready to become the most uncompromising defender at Celtic.

The Norwegian teenager arrived at Parkhead 18 months ago as a lanky central midfielder.

Now, though, Ajer is a strapping centre-half who has bulked up big time after working on a specific strength-building programme given to him by the Hoops backroom staff.

The £500,000 signing from IK Start impressed in the 0-0 draw against Rangers on December 30 — his Old Firm debut — with his no-nonsense style at the back.

Ajer is still very much learning the position, but he made it clear he’s happy to be fearless for the club and the supporters.

He hopes to keep his place for Saturday’s Cup tie against rock-bottom Championship minnows Brechin City.

Ajer said: “I played in a few cup games back in Norway but it was always against teams who were in the same league.

“This is a big game for them and us.

“We respect Brechin City a lot and know they will come to Celtic Park and make it really difficult for us, so we need to up our game.

“It’s not difficult to lift yourself for games like this because when you play for Celtic there are expectations on you in every single game.

“When you go to Celtic Park, the fans and players expect to play well, so we are really looking forward now to getting started in the second half of the season.

“As a defender, you always want to get clean sheets and to end the year with four in a row was a good way to finish defensively.

“When you play for Celtic every game is big, especially for me at this age.

“I just want to perform as well as I can, so it was good to get a run of games.

“But I don’t assume I will start the next one. We are all working hard every single day, especially in Dubai where we trained really hard.

“The manager wants us to be positive in the way we play with the ball and one mistake at the beginning of the game against Rangers didn’t really matter for me.

“I just had to keep my head up and try again — and I felt I recovered.

“The last year at Celtic and Kilmarnock has been good for my development.

“I’ve developed a lot in the last six months under the gaffer. He has helped me a lot and put faith in me. It’s been really good.

“I feel more secure as a centre-half now.

“When I came here I was a midfielder but I feel more secure as a centre-half now.

“I needed time to get into the new role and understand how the gaffer wants central defenders to play.

“The loan out to Kilmarnock also helped because I played there every single week as a centre-half.

“I’ve been in the gym after every training session since day one here. It’s been beneficial for me to bulk up a bit.

“I’ve got a really good programme to follow in terms of bulking up, explosiveness and technical stuff on the pitch.

“We have really good central defenders here and we are training hard every single day, really pushing ourselves.

“For me, as a young guy I’ve learned so much from all the central defenders, including the latest, Marvin Compper.

“It’s something different to play for Celtic.

“When you go out and hear 60,000 fans screaming and hoping you win, then you put everything you can into the game. I’m sacrificing my body for this team. When you play for Celtic every game is big. Now it’s Brechin and we’re looking forward to it.

“As a Celtic player you put yourself into a good position to play good games.

“I focus on myself and if I do well then hopefully the big games will come.

“Coming to Celtic, I looked at it as signing for one of the biggest clubs in the world.

“I really wanted to get some games here.

“You can’t really describe the feeling of walking out at Celtic Park in front of all these fans — the atmosphere is probably the best in the world. I just enjoy playing for Celtic.

“I’m here to do my best in every single game.

“The manager here puts faith in his squad and when the gaffer puts his players in, he knows we are comfortable in what he wants us to do.

“It’s just a positive feeling about the club.

“I feel like that every single day here in terms of training, nutrition and sleep. I put 100 per cent into it.

“I feel like I’m like ready to go into games.

“It makes me feel calmer about myself that I’m putting 100 per cent into things.”

Norway boss Lars Lagerback is eager to hand Ajer his first international cap.

That would be the realisation of a boyhood dream to play for his country, inspired by one of Norway’s greatest-ever players — former Fulham stopper Brede Hangeland, who amassed 91 caps.

Ajer said: “The next international is at the end of March and that’s a long time.

“It would be a bonus for me because, at the moment, I’m 100 per cent focused on playing for Celtic.

“To just be here at Celtic and do my best is the biggest thing for me.

“Henning Berg and Ronny Johnsen are among the best-known centre-halves in Norway.

“Brede Hangeland was the captain of Norway for a long, long time.

“He was someone I admired and he played also as a central midfielder in Norway when he was younger.

“When I was 15 and involved in my first national squad, he was there to talk to us and give us information and advice.

“He was the captain of Norway and a big, big player. All of us looked up to him.

“It was great to see him and get his advice.”
