Quality today. Looks so much more composed than the rest and can bring the ball forward. Will be good to see him and commper together.

He has played midfield so is good with the ball which is a bonus especially in domestic games.
He's also a big guy, but he hasn't been tested defensively.

Would like to see him alongside Compper

Having a DF who can bring the ball out takes a bit of pressure off the keeper's kicking too, he's fantastic at it.

Keep sending him in. Looks the part, and by far, more composed than any other CB we have just now.

Hopefully he works on that.

Someone pointed this out after the Aberdeen game but compared it to McManus, I always thought Varga was the worst for this

Played well today, as others have said they acid test will be when he is up against some decent attackers. Hopefully him and Compper raise the standard and we see a bit more quality from Jozo and Boyata in the second half of the season.

Still hasn't done anything to merit getting dropped. He will score soon as well.

He's looked steady, which is more than can be said for any of the others in that position. Much better use of the ball than Boyata or Simunovic. Edvalsson mark 2.

Just posted in the post match thread that I think his time will come but we need experience in the game against the huns and I would play Boyata or Simunovic ahead of Ajer in this one. He has had a good wee run of games but time to sit one out.

He has performed well against better teams than sevco and is in form. Absolutely no reason to drop him.

Experience is all well and good but when the 2 centre halfs you mention pish themselves like a scared puppy at some fireworks everytime they get put under pressure then it doesn't matter if you've played 3 games or 300 games.

Varga was dreadful - he was literally incapable of heading the ball further than about 5 or 6 metres, he regularly gifted opportunities with headers that dropped right to the feet of opposition players on the edge of our box. And don't even get me started on that mullet of his :nono:

Anyhoo, I like what I've seen of Ajer so far - I do like a centre half partnership between a composed ball-player and a big beast of a ball winner. For the game against the tribute act I'd go with Boyata or Simunovic (depending on fitness and form) along side Ajer (or Bitton if Ajer gets crocked in training). Not sure whether Compper will displace Ajer/Bitton as the ball playing option at this point.

If I had one mild criticism of Ajer in the last couple of games it's maybe that he's a bit to charge forward in to midfield with the ball. It's great to have that ability in the team, but if he chooses that option so often it becomes predictable then the opposition midfield will get wise to it and he'll end up costing us.

But, at the age of 19 he looks to have the tools to become a great defender for us. Thank you for bringing him to the club Ronny!

He can certainly pass the ball well and bring it out from the back on his last two showings, if he turns out to be as adept at defending as he is in the ballwork department he might well turn out to be a very capable CB. Also looks as though his midfield past means he is clued in positioning-wise which always a great asset for any CB.
Early days yet, but he has more composure in possession than Simunovic/Boyata/Sviatchenko combined and I think it's fairly certain BR will pair him with Compper after the winter break, all things being equal.

 Majstorovic was one of of the worst headers of a ball we ever had. Always straight up in the air. Specialised in giving away needless corners too.
