He was perhaps the fastest player I've ever seen in a Celtic jersey. I seem to remember when he came to us Hibs had played him mostly up front in his short stint there. Right wing back suited him as he was so fast & could run all day, however his final ball and shooting were not as strong, though still more than passable (he did get at assist in the UEFA cup final). I felt right back was his best position, his pace got us out of many a bad situation and his tackling was superb. He was a mainstay of MONs Celtic side, up there with Sutton, Lennon, Thompson & Pettov as a key man in the success alongside Henrik.
fastest player i've seen in a Celtic shirt , i think Middlesboroughs Adama traore may be the fastest player i have seen.
Jonathan Pitroipa for me.

There's more scheidt talked about Didier Agathe's final ball than even Aiden's. You can't check out videos from MON's time without being astonished at the number of assists he made. He was an integral part of MON's team who was ditched by Strachan for no other reason than he wanted the jaw-droppingly ordinary Telfer, one of his first signings if not his first, in the team. Didier deserved better than to be lied about being a poor trainer by a manager with an agenda. It coloured my view of WGS from the start. Didier scored some of my most ecstatic Celtic goals -- Ajax and Dundee away in particular. :worthy:

Yep. I think the only reason Agathe's final ball is derided is that he got into so many fantastic positions and his delivery was inconsistent, so he was wasteful at times but overall he made a fantastic contribution to that side.

Underrated defensively too and his timing of tackles was superb.

Andy Webster kneecapped Agathe with a brutal challenge and injured him badly. When he returned though he was still rapid there seemed to be a hesitation built into his game. He was still an effective defender but the attacking element of his game seemed to lose his edge. Prior to that you knew that he knew he was that damn fast and time and time again he was happy to skin people. As Torq points out, he has some noteable assists, but for the amount of times he got in behind he did fire in a lot of awful crosses but he stretched the opposition and put them on the back foot out of nowhere. It wasn't just his pace at full pelt but the rapidity with which he could get to it was just explosive. He was fantastic in reverse as well recovering great distances to track back and make last ditch tackles.

I think when he went to right back he was told to limit his forays into the opposition half, much to the frustration of fans who thought he was playing within himself. I agree fully that his final ball was far better than some would have you believe, referencing a high profile example in my last post. The only reason I mentioned it was in comparison to his pace, engine & tackling which were world class, it was noticeable that his composure was not at that level also.
Poor Ajer, solid debut for Killie and someone turns his thread into 'How good was .. Agathe?'.

Ronaldinho said Agathe was good enough to play for Barca after we knocked them out of the Uefa Cup. He was no bad.

i was young and always seen him crossing the ball in , thought he was a winger.

He was great in MONs first four seasons, couldn't tell you a lot about 2004-05 as I was out of the country from autumn, but in the games I did catch I can't remember a drop off in quality from him.

He scored in Amsterdam, pretty sure both crosses for the goals in the Stuttgart game on the way the Seville were from the right, so a good chance he fired them in.

Keep seeing the thread getting bumped up the charts, makes it look as if the boy played a blinder/was honking/got badly injured on his debut. Then you see it's 'cos fuds are talking pish about another player in another decade...zzz

From the BBC match report

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/38620259

New faces

Looking for a change in fortunes, Kilmarnock manager Lee Clark made a bold selection. Five members of his starting line-up were making their debuts, with three on loan from Newcastle.

One of those, Woodman, was in goals, and he enjoyed a fairly comfortable first outing. The best of the debutants was Kristoffer Ajer, on loan from Celtic and playing with strength and poise at centre-back.

Callum Roberts, another making his first start, drew a straightforward save from Hamilton's Gary Woods with a looping header, while the other new boys - Karleigh Osborne and Sean Longstaff - were steady enough.

Good stuff, this could be a great move for him.

Ajer must have impressed. My mate who is a bit of a depressive bastard when it comes to Killie said he was good. Didn't have much nice to say about the boy who gave away the penalty or the manager right enough.

More compliments on his performance today from Killie fans.

Wish we'd lent Didier Agathe to them as well
