Suprised this thread hasnt been bumped before now. Played great on Saturday even if it was a friendly.

Could be another Wanyama type sensation in central mid and exactly what we need.

I've been impressed with Ajer but he has played the last couple of U-20 games, which suggests he's way down the pecking order as a CB and not considered the answer to our DM woes.

Thought he played well tonight. Short and long range passing was good. He is a big boy and could be a bit more aggressive at times. Once he has a few more weeks of the diet the rest of the youths are on he will be fine.

Wonder if it's just his style or BR's instructions but he dropped back into a sweeper role constantly when we had the ball at the back.

That's what I'd expect to see a proficient DM do, compare that with Deila's baffling double anchor system that offered no cover, little space to recycle possession and zero protection, yet gave license to bomb forwards repeatedly.

How's he been getting on then? Last time I watched him was in the Inter friendly when I thought he had a cracking game. Think he could be a shout for a few games in the league especially if we're going to have a heavy schedule with the CL matches.

He might be young but if he's good enough, play him. We are short in midfield and might offer us something we don't have. A bit of steel.

It was his passing that had impressed me most.

Was he out with a thumb injury yeah? Would really like to see him back in the squad.

Think he's fully recovered from the injury he had as he's played for the development squad in the Irn-Bru cup games. Would be happy for him to make the step up. His passing was good as was his strength, could be a decent all-rounder.

Can't be put on the B List for the UEFA squad list for the Champions League. If I've done my sums right he'd be the 17th player on the A-List who is not club or association trained, which would mean he'd be in ahead of Ambrose and Commons (the latter is neither club or association trained under the rules). Also think Fasan's date of birth makes him ineligible for the B List now so will be interesting if it's a straight choice between him and Bailly.

We have 8 who are club or association trained, so there's your 25.

Players like Tierney, O'Connell and Henderson still qualify for the B-list.

When the CL squad is announced tomorrow, will be interesting if he is on it and if it is at the expense of Commons.

He hasn't really stood out for the U20s in the last few weeks but he's been okay. It'll be interesting to see if he stays at that level throughout the season or pushes for the first team. As it stands there are probably a few in the U20s who look more first team ready but given our lack of decent midfielders, maybe he'll get a chance.

Anyone else in the U20s that might get a game in central midfield? I'm not advocating we play any of them against Barca, just curious if we have anyone coming through in that part of the pitch.
