Really?

One season in Norway?

That hotbed of football - playing for an even diddier team than Ronny managed, in front of crowds numbering the hundreds

This is the guy who is going to turn things around?

Excuse my cynism but this lad might, stress might be player in a couple of years but he is unlikely to be the answer to our current failings!
You did watch a mid-table Norwegian team shoe us twice last season aye?
That was mainly because we have a hapless useless Norwegian as coach.
No doubt everyone in Norway had had plenty of practice playing against Ronny's teams as they probably played exactly the same way every time

Welcome to Celtic Big Yin :ynwa: Never want a new signing to have anything but the most fantastic time here with US, the most patient, understanding, empathic, and forgiving set of supporters on the planet. Cynical me

Noo thats you telt, kick the granny oot the rest o the midfield, pump RD's missus until yer a first team regular and there will be a song aboot ye before ye find oot Collum is a carrot and the huns have had more reincarnations than the Dalai Lama.

Now I don't want to see him play every game and burn out in a season but be developed and nurtured, and educated into our club and culture. I want to see him get lean and mean cos he is not starting every game. I want to see him squaring up to Broony and showing the captain that he has a pair and he will take on anybody to get in to the team and stay there. I want to see commitment and perseverance and a smile on his coupon when he wears the hoops.

How will I judge him??? When he is good enough to demonstrate that the shirt fits and he needs a bigger size to go with a renewed contract.

Lastly I want him to :i'dstillpumptheclown: any hun he meets

Captained his club already - played numerous games by the age of 17. I would hardly say he's raw.

Aye and he just moved to Scotland where he's up against Neymar, Lahm, Pogba and Greg Tansey.

FFS - are you really so arrogant as to write off a full nation of footballers like that? That's ridiculous. The quality of anyone else who came before him from Norway does not matter - it's how this kid can play himself. To write anyone off because of the league they come from or their nationality is pretty poor.

Besides, presuming you're too arrogant to have ever watched a minute of football in Norawy before, it's of a rising standard and has been for a while, and they certainly aren't diddies. As QA said, a 'diddy' team from Norway ran all over us and I feel fairly confident they would have done so to the same team that played them that night regardless of the manager. They were a very good team across all six games.

I'm new. Be gentle.
I am really excited with this signing. Ajer has been wanted by bigger clubs than Celtic for a good while. He was in Roma on trial in december 2014 and was also wanted on trial at Liverpool and Tottenham. He demonstrated back then that he is a boy who dont believe in short cuts or thinks he is better than he is. 16 years old he said a move to Roma was not an option, he would rather develope further in the Norwegian league and then go abroad with more experience to a team where he can improve further and be a contender for first team football.

He is a defensive midfielder who scored 8 goals in 30 games for the team that ended 3rd from bottom last year. I welcome this signing and know he will be a great player here.

HIS mum published her own book on life.

Kristoffer Ajer insists just putting pen to paper on a contract with Celtic has made his life.

The 17-year-old midfielder signed a four-year deal to seal a £800,000 transfer from Norwegian outfit Start.

Ajer will move to Scotland with his parents Jan Tore and Randi when he officially joins up with Ronny Deila’s squad for next season.

And even though he will leave behind his girlfriend Karoline, the teenager couldn’t be happier.

He said: “They will both be travelling with me and they will stay here for some months, just for as long as it takes for me to develop into the squad and learn how to live in Glasgow.

“I am really thankful for that because it is a big step and I am leaving all of my friends, lots of family and my girlfriend.

“She is playing handball for a career and there is no handball here, but that’s okay.

“Football has been my whole life, so I cannot think about anything else I want to do.

“Both my parents are bringing their jobs here with them. My father works with taxes and my mother has written a book.

“She has written it about her life and how you would put things in your life.

“My parents have been really important for me.

“My father was my trainer in my early years and my mother always encouraged me in both my football and my education.

“I would not be sitting here at Celtic without them.”

The impressive Ajer returns to Start until the end of May. That will allow him to continue his studies and learn how to drive.

He added: “I can finish high school and take my driving test.

“My mother and father always encouraged me to get a good education and I will.

“I have one more year of school when I come here and I will work that with my school back in Norway.

“It will be okay. You have a lot of time when you are not playing football and I want to feel I have an education. That’s important.

“If I wasn’t playing football I’d want to do something within sports, maybe be an expert on television or something, I don’t know.

“But first of all I need to become a professional footballer and that’s important when I am here at Celtic.”

Celtic boss Deila isn’t exactly struggling for midfielders, but 6ft 5in Ajer insists he is ready for the challenge of getting into the Hoops line-up.

He added: “There are many good midfielders here, but they are players I will learn from and develop alongside.

“I will try to be as good as them if that is possible and try to play some matches.

“I would describe myself as a hard-working holding midfielder who gives everything for my team.

“I have had many role models that I have seen on YouTube, like Patrick Viera, who was a great player in that position.

“Celtic have many midfielders who are so good and who I need to learn from. I can’t wait to come back in the summer and start training again with them.”

Ajer earned his move to Celtic after coming to Scotland on trial and grabbing his big chance.

He said: “It went well so I was really hoping the deal would set. Now it has, so I’m really happy.

“For me it’s an honour to sign for such a big club as Celtic.

“I have just come here to meet the supporters and the players and you can’t imagine how big that is to me. I am really looking forward to this.

“I had offers from other big teams, but for me the most important thing was Celtic.

“It was the club I wanted to join and being able to do that is just amazing.

“First of all, Celtic is one of the biggest clubs in the world. You see the supporters and you see the fantastic atmosphere here in Glasgow.

“I came to train with the players and everyone was so warm with me. I just felt at home here.

“I don’t look at Celtic as a middle step, I look at Celtic as a really big club. It’s a place where I want to play and I see an opportunity here.

“One of the main focuses here is to play in front of a huge fanbase

“I can’t imagine anything bigger in football than playing in front of so many thousands of supporters here.

“This is a huge club with a lot of history. The demands are high at Celtic. You have to win silverware every year and that is what I want to do.

“I want to prove myself good enough to be here.”

Ajer is level-headed and clearly bright, but the teenager insists he is no shrinking violet having been appointed Start skipper at just 16.

He added: “I was comfortable as captain. I have always been captain in youth teams and it was a huge experience for me.

“I was grateful that the manager gave me such an important role.

“To be honest, I look at myself as a captain whether I have the role or not because I always scream and demand everything from me and the rest of the players.

“I’m not scared of saying this is me and this is what I stand for.

“Now I have to prove myself good enough and I am not going to hide behind the rest of the squad.”

Kristoffer Ajer will finish school before arriving at Celtic this summer - then his football education will really kick off.

The highly-rated 17-year-old was paraded at Celtic Park today after sealing a move from IK Start on a four-year deal.

The holding midfielder revealed he has modelled his game on Arsenal great Patrick Vieira.

But he knows there are top quality players at Celtic who can teach him even more.

Ajer said: "I'm a holding midfielder who likes to be on the ball and win it back again.

"I've had many role models that I have seen on YouTube such as Patrick Vieira.

"At Celtic here you have holding midfielders who are so good and I have to learn from them."

Ajer has yet to pass his driving test but graduated to the Start first team at an early age, playing almost 50 matches.

He knows it will be harder to break into the Hoops starting XI but is ready for the challenge.

He said: "I will take my driving licence and finish my second grade of high school.

"I have many things to do back in Norway and I will help my team do well in the first half of the season.

"I'm only 17 years old and I have already achieved one of my biggest dreams. I can't wait to start here at this big club and develop as a player.

"I'm a full member of the A squad and I need to prove myself. I need to develop and be good in training and the playing time I get. Time will show, but hopefully I will play a lot.

"I have played almost 50 matches in the premiership in Norway and I felt I was ready to come to a big club like this, one of the greatest clubs in the world."

Ajer is confident he will cope with the pressure of playing for Celtic and starting life in a new country.

He added: "My parents have always told me to keep my feet on the ground and never think you are better than anyone else.

"You have to prove yourself and I come here as a 17-year-old that no one has heard of. I need to play good football and prove myself.

"I come here as a 17-year-old from Norway and I don't think many expect much, but I expect much from myself."

Ajer impressed Celts boss Ronny Deila during a week's trial at Lennoxtown in January.

The presence of fellow Norwegian Deila should help Ajer settle into his new life, and the youngster is sure his new gaffer can weather the storm that has seen fans call for his head.

He said: "Ronny is a great manager back in Norway and he has won the premiership there.

"He is the manager now and that's what is important.

"You don't know what will happen, but Ronny is a great manager and I'm sure he will be manager for a long time."

Why do players wear and also hold up a strip these days?

What's the point in holding it up if you're wearing one anyway? Strange.
The whole parading thing has become a bit of a joke from all clubs.
Think we take the biscuit though, with not being just content with parading actual signings, we are even parading other teams players we only have on loan. :cuckoo: :suspect:
Then throw out the same paragraph with only the name being different.

Ajer to @stenrsen for @fvn_no: (about Celtic Park) 'This is insane, I can only imagine what it's like when it's packed. I got goosebumps >

>> the first time I played for Start in Norway. This will be very different. 'I'm quite emotional as I've fulfilled one of my big dreams'

Ajer: 'My parents always said I need to keep my feet on the ground and don't assume I'm better than everybody else, I have to prove myself'

Ajer: 'I'm coming to Celtic where probably nobody have heard about me. I have to show that I can play.

Deila to @fvn_no: 'I've followed him (Ajer) the whole way. He played against us at Strømsgodset, him on one team, Martin Ødegaard on other'

Deila on Ajer: 'I knew he was a good lad with excellent attitude. That's important, you need it to handle the pressure in a club like this'

Deila on Ajer: 'If we had waited to the summer (to get him on a free), we wouldn't have got him - somebody else would have snapped him up'

Deila on Ajer: 'He'll be part of first team squad straight away. Then it's up to himself to show that he's good enough. He is a player >>

>> we want to develop over time as it's big step going from 30 games in the Norwegian league to 60 games in Scotland and internationally'

Tore Pedersen, Ajer's agent, to @fvn_no on whether Celtic was only credible option; 'In the end, it was >>

CELTIC signed Kristoffer Ajer now because they feared being gazumped.

The Hoops shelled out £750k for the Norwegian wonderkid — despite having only six months left on his IK Start contract.

Boss Ronny Deila was aware of interest in Ajer, left, from other clubs — including Europa League group rivals Molde — and urged the Parkhead board to move fast for the 17-year-old.

Deila said: “If we hadn’t made the offer now, we might not have got him.

“So we’re very happy to have Kristoffer at Celtic. We’ve worked a long time to get it done.

“It takes time with clubs, but now it is finally in place and there will be a new chapter in his career.

“I have followed him for a long time. He played against us when I was in Stromsgodset.

“He is a good guy with good attitudes. That is important in order to cope with the pressure at clubs like this.”

Molde manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was gutted to miss out.

He said: “Kristoffer has chosen to go to a club where he thinks he will get the best possible development. We wanted him to develop with us.”

In yesterday´s Nettavisen (my translation): http://www.nettavisen.no/sport/fotball/ajer-etter-solskjr-stikk---bryr-meg-lite-om-hva-folk-sier-og-mener/3423194277.html

“Ajer on dig from Solskjær:

- Cares very little about what people say or think

The youngster denies that he went after the money when he chose Celtic before Molde.

LA MANGE (nettavisen): On question from TV2 about Ajer´s transfer, the Molde manager Ole Gunnar Solskjær said:

- If depends what he´s after. Best possible development or other things. We could have developed him at Molde,

Molde were according to TV2 willing to pay 5 millions (Norwegian krones) for the talent.

- I think we are at least as good as Celtic, and Tippeliagen is at least as good as the Scottish league. So we will just have to talk note of that the boy was advised to do something else than we had hoped for, Solskjær continued.

- Typical

When Nettavisen meets Ajer in La Manga Friday, the youngster confirms that he has seen the quotes from Solskjær.

- I saw that. There are many other clubs that are better than Molde at developing players, so that´s not something I´m thinking about, Ajer tells Nettavisen.

- He suggests that you went after the money?

- That´s a bit typical if they want to have a dig. I know how my contract looks like and I know by myself which plans I have. What people say and think, I couldn´t care less about. But Solskjær is a very good manager, so that probable came out a bit wrong, says the 17 years old.

Solskjær received massive critics in social media after his statement.

- Solskjær hopeless about Ajer when he more than suggests that the youngster is only going after the money. Whiny and patronizing. I though he was sympathetic, tweeted Lesse Vangsten, former press chief at Vålerenga.

- Huffy and whiny, tweeted Dagbladet journalist and Start supporter Lars Martin Gimse.

But Ajer believes the explanation may be that Solskjær worded himself a bit wrong.
- Maybe he said something that was taken out of connection. It´s not something I give much of a thought.

Gave his agent a clear message

In fact the money means so little to Ajer that he gave his agent Tore Pedersen a clear message when interests started to come up.

“Forget about the money, find me a club that want to invest in me”.

- Tore has been fantastic and I need to thank him a lot. He has done a fantastic job. We early agreed on that the money means nothing, I need to focus on developing and get to a club where they believe in me. I really hope they do that at Celtic and it was never an option to go to an academy in Premier League or the Bundesliga, although I could have earned more money there, Ajer says.

- I´m 17 years old and I´m aiming at becoming as good a footballer as possible, and then the money will come later, he insists.

The youngster describes it as “most delightful” that things were finally sorted out with Celtic. Several big clubs have shown interest the last year, but according to The Scotsman, Ajer chose Celtic before seven other clubs.

- There has been a lot to choose from, but my opinion has always been that development is the most important. Then I regard Celtic as the absolute best option, and it is a huge club. Next year the stadium will be packed when Rangers are back up and that is something I´m really looking forward to. To run out there, in front of so many crazy fans; there´s not much in football that beats that, he says.

Deila wanted to put Ajer at display

He appreciated being in Glasgow and have a taste of what waits him in few months.

- It was fantastic to be there. I had a very good stay there one month ago and I was very well received and performed well. I only got good feedback and this is something I have wanted all the time, says Ajer.

- How did you feel it went on the trainings you took part in?

It went incredible well. Ronny wanted me to come and present myself for the rest of the coaching staff. He knew already what I stand for, but wanted the assistants and the others to get their own impressions of me. To see me performing well was positive for the rest of the stab, he says.

- Deila wanted to prove that your passport was not the only reason why he wanted you?

- Of course. Ronny is a very good manager and it is important to him that the others agree on his decisions, he says.

Believes Deile will remain at Celtic

Deila is under a lot of pressure and the fans who call for a new manager are increasing in numbers. Ajer admits that he has considered the thought that Deila might not be the manager when he goes there in the summer.

- Of course, but he is a very good manager who is trusted both by the players and the administration and I feel sure about that he will stay. But you can never take anything for granted; managers come and go. But I´m counting on that he´s still there when I come, says the 17 years old.

- Did you get the impression that Celtic have plans for you independent on who the manager is?

- Now I´m a Celtic player and will join the A-squad, and then it depends solely on how I preform. If I do well - which is my plans, I´m going to develop and get playing time. That is what´s important. It´s a step up but Celtic are playing a lot of matches and I will get my chances, he things.

At Celtic, he probable will compete with big Nir Bitton, who has taken huge steps under Deila. Bitton is maybe one of Celtic´s best players right now.

- He is a fantastic player and I only see it as positive that I can learn a lot from him. I will study him in trainings, Ajer promises.

- You are similar as types?

- Yes, we are both tall and lanky, he jokes.

(…)

The diet is very important for Ajer. He never eats candies and never drinks soda. Every day he tries at get at least 10 hours sleep.

- The details are what´s important. I try to utilize my time and this I will continue doing at Celtic.

- Are you still doing self-training?

- I have never stopped doing that. I love to train. I will keep on doing that in La Mange; I will keep on doing that the half year I´ve got left at Start and I will keep on doing that for the rest of my life, he insists.

Then it´s no wonder you become good. And then it´s not strange than big clubs like Celtic give you a call.

(…)”
