He is this era's Tommy Burns. The fan who became the player loved by the fans.

It's only his second full season.

Plenty time for the fans to turn on him.

Celtic left-back Kieran Tierney is a transfer target for Manchester United with the Red Devils monitoring the £10million rated defender

The 19-year-old is on the road to recovery after suffering an ankle injury, and the Daily Mirror report Jose Mourinho's side are keen to bring him to Old Trafford.

The Scotland youngster, who has also drawn interest from Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal, has grown in stature under Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers .

Tierney played a key role in Celtic’s 3-3 Champions League draw with Manchester City at Celtic Park earlier this season and has been in demand since.

Tierney isn't the only Scottish starlet that the Old Trafford side are monitoring with Livingston kid Matthew Knox spending several weeks with the Premier League giants on trial in recent months.

United are considering a move during this month’s window, but are more than likely to have to wait until the summer to try to land the £10million-rated defender.

Left-back has been a problem position for United this season, with Marcos Rojo, Daley Blind, Luke Shaw, Matteo Darmian and Ashley Young all featuring there.

£10m? Haha. This is the club that spent £30m on Fellaini 3/4 years ago.

£10m for one of the top prospects in British ( :boik: ) football? At a time where mediocre footballers are going for £15-20m minimum?

Get effed, wouldn't sell to those horrible carrots anyway for any price

Tierney has done so well so far but he's miles from being the finished article and to see him mentioned as Manu signing or tommy burns is :ffs:

He needs to learn to play in Europe for us and not go to ground so easily

The only reason he looks good going forward ATM is cause he's playing for us and opposition is crap

He's a great prospect and a delight to see but nothing more at this stage

:ffs:

The Tommy Burns comparison is fair enough. It's not suggesting equivalence or even comparing their playing style - more an observation that he is a fan living the ultimate dream.

Fair enough, reining it in a bit but

- really? Not also that he is an excellent young player?

If he was a right back we wouldn't sell for that sort of money. However there is a premium for good left backs as they are like hen's teeth. And Tierney is the best left back prospect I have seen in years. He will go someday but it will be for at least double that.
