Andy Robertson out of the England match by the sounds of things. I'd say Tierney should be a stick on to start that one but he's only 5,10 so who the hell knows.

Now, he's the present.

This is what is holding Scottish football back.

eff experience, eff height & strength.

Play guys with energy, ability & positive attitudes. Give them games & they will improve.

Tierney is a future captain of Club & country, no doubt at all - if he has a good manager at Hampden.

They done their homework. The first 20-25 minutes they continually caught Tierney out of position and I think it stifled our attack after that as he played further back than usual.

He needs more help from Sinclair.

Izzy was out warming up in the first half.

I thought he might have been hooked at HT.

Badly exposed in Europe. Again.
He gets spooked when pressed and he kept getting sucked in towards the ball and then it was dropped in behind him. Should have got more protection.

Needs to work on his composure in the first two thirds of the pitch because there is no doubt he has it in the last one. It will come.

right winger got the better of him after 5 mins, after this you could see Tierneys reluctance to bomb forward..

He wasn't great but last time out he played excellent v Man City. He is only 19 & he will learn.

The problem Tierney has in Europe isn't one of talent but one of tactics. Sinclair and Forrest do a lot of pressing and coming inside when we are defending. This leaves both fullback areas exposed. As Tierney is the more attacking of our fullbacks he is often further up the field than Lustig when we lose the ball. A lot of the time he has to patrol a very large area of the park himself and is offered very little help by Sinclair in front of him, Brown or Bitton in midfield or the centre back inside of him. It will be a risk Brendan is willing to take as this is the way he wants to play football and he has a lot of faith in Tierney's ability. I believe this to be the case as nothing has changed since day one of Rodgers time in charge.

That's the same defence I used to give Izzy

First half last night he faced an opponent smarter, sharper, and more unpredictable than any he's faced to date.
He grew into the match.

Erm, as good as that boy Traore is, I'm not sure I'd go so far as to describe him as "smarter, sharper, and more unpredictable" than that guy with the dodgy hair who played on the right for Barca a few weeks ago... ;)

Neither full back was helped in the first half by us effectively playing 4 2 4 - much better in the 2nd half when he was given some help

And because tierney (or izzy as was for years) is the defender he's the guy the fans see being exposed so he must be playing badly. Only experience and coaching can build the player to cope with that.

As for this 'caught out of position' pish, he's a main attacking threat. If his job is to give width in attack he's not out of position. Caught up the park is more accurate and fair on the player.

His all round game was pish tonight. Outwith the deficiencies of the system he was still pish. His passing was poor (as it has been at every game at this level), his defending was generally poor as well. Folk were still trying to claim he was our best player last night which is nonsense.

For me he is currently a very good young player but some of the comments about him have been ott.

The test for developing players is to find out what his weaknesses are are work hard on them to become a more all rounded player. If he had his head screwed on then he can take a lot of learning points from this CL campaign. The key hing to work on his his defensive positioning. That looks his like his weak point.
