Lennoxtown you mean? Think Forrest and McGregor are the only other two you could say have 'made it'. Behind that you've got the likes of Watt and McGowan I'd say.
Not really sure when the academy system started, but I think it was quite a while before Lennoxtown. I'm an old geezer who remembers getting all our youngters from the junior clubs. The Lions for example all came up through the Scottish junior system. I really don't know when that changed to clubs having their own academies.
Did they not just tend to be farmed out to the Juniors to toughen them up :ponder:

He still has a few rough edges but he's one of our best players. Loads of heart, skill and great workrate. Love the fact he loves a tackle as well.

He reminds me of a fullback of the past in terms of his style - maybe an EPL player, but I just can't quite figure out who it is.
Denis Irwin?
Reminds me of Gary Neville.

I think that was the case with Jimmy Johnstone. He was signed as a young boy then farmed out to Blantyre Celtic for a few seasons. But that was unusual. Normally they signed players direct from the juniors, usually around 18 or 19 who went straight into the Celtic reserves.. Billy McNeill was signed from Blantyre Victoria, Stevie Chalmers from Kirkintilloch Rob Roy, Bobby Lennox from Ardeer etc.

Stevie Chalmers played for Rob Roy but after he was seriously ill they thought he could never get back to playing and let him go - He got himself fit again and signed for Ashfield and it was from Ashfield Celtic signed him.

Jock tended to favour farming the youngsters out to Juniors to toughen them up - Kenny was at Cumbernauld - Danny was at Maryhill - Tommy Burns was at Maryhill and so on.

I thought that Danny McGrain and Kenny Dalglish were first signed by Celtic and then sent out to Junior clubs but that seems not to be the case as we signed Danny from Maryhill Juniors. Their wiki page states firstly that he's a famous ex player of theirs, and more impressive, that they have this guy in the ex players section :

Quote:

William Wells - Left winger who recently knocked back a big money move to Blantyre in favour of staying with Maryhill and is a fans favourite particularly a favourite of Big Stuarty with the berghaus.

We signed Danny from Queens Park Strollers and Jock sent him to Maryhill for 6 months.

Danny never took the idea of becoming a footballer seriously even when he was at Queens Park - It was only when he signed for Celtic he then took it seriously --------------------------------------------------------------Thank feck!!!!

If he turns out half as good as either of those two he'll have an incredible career.

He looks far more dangerous going forward, goals could be up there with Moose and Sinclair with a bit more luck! His cut-backs are sublime.

he should practice his free kicks.

Everyone loves a decent full back that can slam a free kick home.

What a find hes been. Hopefully see some more of the youths follow him through the ranks.
Perhaps the best player our academy has ever produced? Can't think of another one this good since the modern style academy started.

We bought Watt from Airdrie.
