Thought he was patchy tonight. A few very poor decisions, which is unlike him.

It's easy to forget he's still a kid but he looked like one tonight.
I'd agree with that.

Very easy to forget that he turned 19 a little over 2 months ago.
Was it him Brendan was referring to when he said that we were swapping positions at the back when we shouldn't have been and that's why we lost the first goal?
I reckon so.
Tierney was on the right side as they broke from our corner then started to switch with O'Connell just as the ball got played in to their striker.
The badly timed switch-over (from the corner set-up to Tierney at left back) gave their guy too much space.
Bottom line is, if Tierney had stayed where he was and defended in the right back position, I don't think they'd have scored.
Something to be worked on hard on the training ground.

Second european game he`s payed less than 100% fit this season and still looks comfortably better than the majority of left backs we`ve had in my time. He was solid enough with very little coming down his side bar one occasion.

Does enough in support going forward, we don`t need Alves, Cafu or Carlos going forward at full back when we have quality wide players like Sinclair and Roberts. Looks to have a decent understanding with Sinclair already but as has been pointed out will be left more exposed in a 4 3 3 when Sinclair goes inside or through the middle. We`ll learn to cope with that as a team. There`s measured criticism and there`s outright cynical bawbaggery in judging a young players performance and one of the posts on here is the latter.

Right now, he's a carbon copy of Jackie McNamara. Arrive on the scene with a big splash, quickly assume the mantle of golden boy, gathering a claque of fans who can see no fault in him. In reality, short on pace, awful positioning and relies on the wild sliding challenge to get him out of bother. 'Get it up ye!' roars a delighted crowd. 'Get aff' says the European referee who couldn't give a feck if he got the ball or not because he's been told to stamp out the sort of violent challenges that send the CL's most marketable 'superstars' to the treatment room. O'Connell's the same. Begs the question do our youth coaches ever watch the CL or read the refereeing directives?
So in one thread you say the best prospect we have is pish, in another you compared Callum McGregor' passing last night to Lubo. Sound  .

And another thing - do you seriously reckon that our professional youth coaches know less about the game than you? Do you seriously think they can't spot these weaknesses, and that only hawk eyes like yours can? Get over yourself ffs.
A propos of sfa - Way back in the day the Bhoys on the James Stokes CSC bus used to call a certain John Spencer "Spency the Tim" - That didn't last or work out too well. ;)

"Wild sliding challenge" "violent challenges" :lmao:
I must have missed all these so can you fill me in on when they actually happened?
I'll surmise these "violent challenges" warranted a red card, do you know how many Teirney has had? How about how many yellows?
As for your comment about the youth coaches, maybe you should watch a youth game or two before talking absolute pish
Spencey what are you on about??

You are talking about a 19 year old full back who looks for his age & experience as if he has been playing for ten years at the top level and 4/5 seasons in Europe. Without doubt our best homegrown full back since Danny Mcgrain *( I say that with server caution on the lad) & O'Connell's 4/5 first team match I think. Made an error at the goal but the bhoy is night and day compared to Efe & Mulgrew (so far)

This must be a wind up???

Two of them for age and experience had a great game and it is "fans" like you who no doubt knock the stuffing out of young players when a pass goes astray. Get a grip man!

At last our youth setup seems to be giving us a steady stream of hopeful and mature/sold players at a young age.

WTF??

He wasn't great last night, his positioning wasn't great, and he was often slow to get out to the winger. However, so was Lustig, so I don't know if this was due to orders to try and keep things compact in the box.

I think he'll benefit from Sviatchenko coming back hugely, it can't be easy for him with an even less experienced centre back beside him.

Bit baffled at the criticism here. Thought he was fine last night and for a young guy he doesn't ever seem to panic on the ball. Solid, can cross from deep but loves getting to the by-line for a cut back and judges his tackles really well when going to ground. He also has no cover from Sinclair.

He will only improve and its great to see one of our own products developing like this.
Constructive criticism.

There's a difference.

Janko was also slow getting out to the wing. It looked like they had been instructed to stay compact infield. Could be wrong but that's the impression I got.

Quite possibly. If so, hopefully Brendan learns from that. Can work well as a tactic in Europe (Lennon organised his defence superbly this way against Barcelona) but you need your wingers working their baws off to track back and cut out the crosses.

He is developing brilliantly and has come a long way in a short time - quite prepared to accept he will lose form at some point, quite natural, especially given how well he has played.
Hopefully BR will manage him through it - the guy has a very bright future ahead of him

if a player isn't brilliant all the time he gets criticised, tierney is a marvellous prospect, every game he has a special skill of picking out aplayer in the box with a cut back.he laid one on a plate for Sinclair last night.remember Brendan said be patient

My favourite thing about him is he looks before he crosses and hits a man. Full backs never do that.

Far too quick to start knocking at the boy, and too quick to over praise his performances last season, although we hadn't much to praise last year.

Great potential though.

He's excellent at pulling it back low to the penalty spot. Should have got an assist last night from one but Sinclair had his body all wrong.

Their wingback was fairly decent and gave him a good test but he done fairly well.

I must have been at a different game tonight - I thought he was excellent - he had a couple of dodgy moments, but over all I thought he did exactly what he was supposed to - the new Danny McGrain - enjoy him whilst we have him, the EPL will come calling very soon and make him a life changing offer
I admire your enthusiasm for young Tierney, but, based on your comments, I'd be surprised if you actually ever saw Danny McGrain.
I've been going to CP since 1966, so, yes I saw Danny McGrain - Tierney is 19, he has a lot of time on his side - McGrain was slightly older when he made his Celtic debut and developed from then - Tierney could emulate that

An endorsement like few other.

My view is that he's unwavering talent.
This boy has almost everything to make him a Celtic legend.

As for Spence the Tim. I have my doubts. :ffs:

No.

I didn't at any point last night think he was poor. Never heard a word/whisper about it until I came on here and read this forum.

We just won 5-2 at Celtic Park on a European night which should send us into the group stages of the Champions League, along with £30m.

Some folk need to get a hold of themselves because this is ridiculous.
