There is something rotten with this whole episode and it isn't the press. Did the club put it out there that Tierney was available? Did Tierney and his advisors really think he could push to leave this summer and keep his reputation with the fans? After all it was itk Celtic fans that was spreading the 'he's leaving' narrative and that it was KT who was looking to move. While I don't want to come over Ally McCoist, as this is a rhetorical question, but who were these sources? Even if we knew I doubt we'd be able to figure out the truth behind the machinations. Nothing about this whole scenario reads true, even the seemingly final act of Everton pulling out cause he plays in the SPFL. This is rotten and has been badly handled by whomever was pushing it.
You’ve missed out the potential buying club pushing it, who just have a new manager, general manager and need to make a go of it after a terrible Summer transfer window last year.
I don't think the itk Celtic fans were getting their info from Everton. And I can't see how signing a left back from Scotland shows massive intent on Everton's part.
I know how good Tierney is and I'm sure Everton fans would've lived him but he's hardly a bluechip signing for a new manager.
The stuff we have heard has all come from up here, and on the slightest chance it hasn't then the itk posters have shown some very poor judgement in believing stuff generated in England about our players.

Have Everton commented on it at all? If they weren't interested I'd have expected the standard denial long before now.

On the other hand, if there had been developments I'd expect a bit of talk about it eg Parker saying about how everyone knows of Celtic's interest in McGinn but the fee isn't high enough, while BR confirming his interest but it's up to the club's to sort it out.

Information like this comes out because clubs use the media to their advantage. There are pretty savvy PR people employed at a lot of clubs. Fans like to blame the media but the clubs quite often control the flow of information and, while it might be an uneasy relationship at times, it's often to their mutual benefit.

This is a weird one. The media in general has been pretty quiet on the Tierney story. Certainly not the kind of fevered speculation you might expect, not least with the amount of people getting certain information about what's going on and posting it on social media. No denials, no confirmation, from club, player or agent.

Maybe the situation as it stands suits everyone, or is just the least worst scenario. Would have been better if the whole conversation had never taken place in the first instance, but as mentioned, this was all opened up by a very media savvy guy, one of the sharpest we've had in that department.

The only thing I’m bothered about with KT is he wears 63.

Get him wearing 3 for 10IAR.
He loves that number as it's a mix of #3 the usual leftback number & the #6 of his favourite player Bobo :rocker:

It could well have just been a marketing ploy, involving KT, Celtic and his agent, and perhaps Everton too.

It’s all about media attention these days, and if the club envisage moving KT on in the next 2 years then little stories like this popping up do the Club and KT no harm at all if they are all on the same page.

If KT has told Brendan he is going nowhere for the next season or two at least then there is no harm in these rumours. The fans don’t ever really know what is going on until it happens so in the meantime it just keeps everyone talking about the player.

More hits, more likes, more follows.

Good observations. It could just be a ploy to raise the club's social media profile.

One day, we could be as big as Southampton.

I meant for KT, not the club.

It could well be part of an ongoing marketing strategy to keep KT in the headlines North and South of the border.

Happy that KT is staying for this season at least. Maybe this ITK/media farce was just a seed planting for when he inevitably is sold. I don't think he'll be here for the 10.

EVERTON have pulled out of the race to sign Kieran Tierney — after deciding the Celtic star isn’t worth £25million after all.

Toffees boss Marco Silva had indicated he was ready to meet the Hoops’ asking price — busting his £18m budget for a new left-back to succeed Leighton Baines.

But the Goodison side are now looking elsewhere because they feel £25m is too much for a Scottish Premiership player — albeit one with Champions League experience and international caps.

Their other main target is Spurs and England’s Danny Rose, who is likely to leave the Londoners.

Good luck trying to get Danny Rose for 18m , that wont be happening.

Quoting limited to 3 levels deep
Could just be that the MSM are doing everything possible to unsettle the team as we move on. If that's the case get them banned from Parkhead. Fed up with the biased and negative opinions continually coming from the press in this great wee country.

That’s a marvellous idea, because banning them from Parkhead would instantly stop all the negative stories in the press.
Many of the past and current crop of "journalists" should never have been granted access to CP. Not because we seek positive propaganda for that but because the reporting should be impartial and fair, neither of which we get very often in Scotland.

Yes, because without carrying out this exercise the reaction of the fans was a complete unknown.

Yer man who leaks the teams. He's usually spot on with the teams though, so I'm willing to let this one slide.
