No, they weren’t. And no, they’re not. They are mid-table also-rans who’ve been rubbish since about 1984...at best. They had a purple patch for two years in the late 60s and another in the 80s and that is it. In Scottish terms, they’re comparable with Kilmarnock.
What a load of crap. I have left this thread alone deliberately, but for the latest poster to have a pop at Everton like this is pathetic. You obviously know nothing about English football mate, as Everton won two leagues, a Cup Winners Cup and were denied entry to the European Cup at the time by the antics of our neighbours after 1984. Tierney may or may not come here, but rest assured that (taking into account your Kilmarnock jibe) he will be involved in far more testing games than he will have in Scotland. I love Celtic, so will not slate the league in which they play. I will say though, that until these foreign investors turned up we were still competitive. Now that we are owned by a fella with a few bob we are looking to compete again, and the likes of Tierney may help us. I have studied him, however, and I reckon he will struggle physically in the Premier League. The standard in Scotland generally is nowhere near the standard down here. I hope Tierney succeeds, at Celtic, at Goodison, or wherever he finishes up. I'll leave you in ignorance about Southampton's standing compared to Everton's in English football. Good luck to the Celts this coming season. Stevie G will really push you...... It was a shock when Southampton looked like being relegated, it wasn’t when Liverpool’s other team looked like getting relegated, so aye there’s a difference.
Kieran Tierney had about 4 pubes the last time your mob beat your ‘rivals’.

Maybe you should reflect on your bitter jibes at BR from a wee while back? Pot. Kettle. Black.

Certainly since the Premier League started. I'm not having a pop at the hoops btw, but I am defending my club. Everton would improve Tierney, as would any Premier League team. Celtic are simply operating to a glass ceiling, we all have to realise that.

Well come out and give us some definitive's then and the rumour won't rumble on. Unless the club says ‘he’s not for sale at any price’ it is impossible to shut it down completely. Brendan & KT can say he doesn’t want to leave all day, but if Celtic can’t say ‘stick your £25-30m then the speculation won’t go away.

I feel bad for this guy a bit as I think sticking the boot into Everton isn't really justified. However there is some absolute delusion in there. Some appalling players play in the English league. Everton were trotting out Andy van der Meyde a decade back. Howling player. Some equally as bad players litter the EPL.
Someone seems to have thrown the toys out of the pram a bit here.

Don't disagree about the glass ceiling and know very little about the historical merits or otherwise of middling English football clubs, cgaf
But I was talking about players in general down there as opposed to players who have gone from Celtic to Everton
The standard is massively over rated from the middle of the league down
I mean Burnley finished what? 6th, 7th. That's not a good team full of quality players. It's well drilled and organised
Most of our payers would walk into that team

I would think that you'd defend Celtic if someone with a vague grasp of the club's situation was summing up wrongly. God knows, bad players have been here, or over the road or everywhere else in this league, as in the SPL. I'm not here to fight anyone, just to defend Everton FC, founder members of the footballl league. No toys out of pram here mate!

Not to clog the thread with Everton talk but they were the team that probably suffered most from the English ban from Europe, post Hysel. I liked that 80's team for their hard working, never say die attitude and Scottish front two. If KT goes then there are worse clubs he could go to, though I hope that whenever he keav s he goes directly to a champions league contender.

People are deluding themselves here about wishing him well and seeing him test himself at a higher level. There aren't many bigger tests in European football than lining up in a Brendan Rodgers side in the CL as a left back beside Boyata against PSG. Certainly a lot more challenging than playing against Crystal Palace. If he leaves, he's leaving for money. Yes, he probably sees Everton as a stepping stone to something bigger, but the timing just seems utterly bizarre. Why now? Why leave before the 10? As has been pointed out a million times, he'll only be 24 that summer and, to Celtic fans anyway, it seems the perfect time to challenge himself elsewhere.
The EPL is vastly superior to Scottish football and offers players a chance to test themselves week in, week in against much better players. That is a far better development opportunity than a few games getting absolutely humped by PSG or whoever. Of course money is a massive part of the decision but I don't think it's fair to say that players don't want to test them at a higher level rather than play against a very poor standard of opposition for 90% of their season playing in some pretty poor facilities in front of small crowds. Well said, sums up the situation perfectly.

Yes, because Southampton have stayed in the top division since when? Everton have played in the top division since 1955 or something. We may not beat that shower very much but that doesn't support any part of the argument that was being made. Everton is a great club. You ought to come and see it some day. Don't be fooled by the McDonalds franchise across the park. That's not football mate.
£200m spent on players to fight relegation in a league where Burnley finished in a European spot. That’s football. £350k a week on a done granny shagger. That’s football. Chasing managers because the whole club reeks of delusions of grandeur. That’s football. I don't disagree about the overrated standard of Premier League teams below the top six mate. I also think that the top ones are also heavily overrated when they become exposed to top quality opposition. Sadly, we will not categorise Scottish football in either category. That upsets me as I love Celtic, and I think that the standard up north is somewhere in the Championship (Division 2 to us fossils). Tierney will be taking a step up in standard wherever he goes in the Premier League.

I don't mind discussing Everton with people who have some idea of what they're talking about, but you don't. Jog on.......

Agree with most of your post except the Scottish front 2 guys. Andy Gray = W*nk
