£25m for a left back? Yes please. He’s a very good player with a bright future, but we can’t turn down a deal like that, and nor should we, regardless of how much of a mad mental tim he is. I’ll be more upset when Dembele or Ntcham go.

Quoting limited to 3 levels deep
Neither styled themselves as P O'Neill but.
Nothing to do with “styling” himself, he was being a genuine Celtic supporter the same way many of us would be in that situation. It still doesn’t mean we wouldn’t leave if offered the deal he seems to have been. He wasn’t lying to anyone when behaving like a supporter would.

He was/is a Celtic supporter. He’s a professional footballer. Fortunately for him he was able to combine the two. Then he was seemingly made an offer where he’d have to separate the two. If he chooses to go then it doesn’t mean he was faking it.

It’s professional football stuff, why the eff do people continue to be surprised by this. Tierney is a normal guy, same as any of us. We can all pontificate in here that we would play for Celtic forever, but none of us have an effin clue what that decision is like. And given the choice that these normal guys do make when actually in the situation, there’s no reason to think we’d all be any different.
Exactly.

Celtic should be accepting offers like that, agreed. The issue is who instigated it.

I'm no fan of Lawwell. I don't see this one as down to him. We certainly don't need to sell. It's his job now to get the best money we can for Tierney. If that's Everton or Wolves or whoever, I CGAF. The bulk of the money needs to be reinvested in the team sharpish. The two players we are after, if Wilson is true, don't help solve our defensive problems. We need to address our weaknesses very quickly.

If I was Tierney, I'd go, take the loot and come back on a Bosman in 4 or 5 years. He needs to manage his exit very carefully.
Why does he need to manage his exit carefully
If he goes he goes.
I CGAF how its done or where he goes, he's a big boy now.

Hope he isnt planning too much on coming back on a Bosman.
Thats pretty arrogant thinking

Only issue for me is getting as much money as possible.

If he ever wants to come back he will need to manage his exit carefully. Particularly for all the fannies who are turning on him.

We aren't spending that money any time soon, certainly not on big fees for the several new players we need

That's the money to cover us if/when we don't make the cl

It'll make zero difference to our spending

I struggle to see any way we are coming out of this window stronger than we went in

Fair point. It reduces the pressure to sell the likes of Moussa....

Probably. But it's not just about a player's relative ability. Being a "mad mental Tim" is not the be all and end all, but every successful side needs people who'd run through a brick wall for the club. It's why Rodgers wants to sign McGinn, it's why Brown would be seen as a bigger loss than Ntcham going into a game at Ibrox, and it's why people would be gutted to lose KT - it's not just about his ability as a left back.

What good is £25m if you go into the CL qualifiers with a couple of scarecrows in jerseys hoping no one will notice and we get dumped out on our arses, losing £40m?

We'd also still have to buy a left back from the £25m.

No guarantee of qualification, but we'd have a better chance if he stayed. If his heart is set on going, he can wait until January or until we have another left back signed.

Its not like he’s walking out on us or running his contract down. As it stands he’s likely to leave for more than double our record initial fee received. If we had a replacement lined up it would be a good deal for everybody involved.

I'm okay with Kieran Tierney leaving. Here are my reasons.

1. Being offered this much money for a player playing in Scotland doesn't happen and he could be an injury or a season loss of form away from ever getting to this value again. Celtic are not in the position economically or geographically to absorb that risk.

2. He's a left back. The club won't fall apart if we lose a left back. We could probably reinvest 20% of the £25m+ fee on someone with at least 80% of Tierney's ability. I have faith in our scouting.

3. Let's face it, Celtic's policy is to buy low, develop and sell at a profit to sustain the business model. If we want to be seen as a selling club capable of churning out high quality, high value players like Sporting Lisbon, Ajax, Benfica, Shakhtar Donetsk etc. then we need to have a player sold to smash the glass ceiling of previous transfer records. Similar effect to how whenever the world transfer record is broken (i.e. Neymar's transfer) it automatically pushes up the price of every transfer thereafter.
I can’t understand how any Celtic fan is ok about KT leaving. When Dalglish left us I understood 100% why he left, but i wasn’t ok about it.My first game was in 71 the day after Tommy Gemmell left and KT is the best left back i’ve seen in my 47 yrs going to see celtic.Financially we can easily knock back £25M.By showing a bit of ambition appointing Brendan we reaped the rewards on and off the pitch.Reaching 2 CL group stages plus winning back to back trebles resulting in season ticket waiting lists is the way to make money. Why jeopardise this for a quick financial fix which we don’t need? You can say he might get injured or lose form but he could get better and help us reach CL group stages the next 3 or 4 yrs. and then we might get £50M.If we are to reach the CL group stages we’ve got to strengthen our team not weaken it.Celtic should say he is not for sale at any price and the ball is in KT court. If he asked for a transfer then we would have to sell but not before.

Dembele is more likely to want to leave if he sees KT going because he sees a lack of ambition by celtic and although Dembele is our number 1 striker we have another 2 very good strikers who could fill in for us whereas we don’t have any replacement for KT.I won’t to keep both players but i’m resigned to lose Dembele.

Where are all these left backs that are ready replacements for KT coming from?

Have you all forgotten what we've had to put up with before Izzy and KT?

Lee Naylor, Danny Fox, Charlie Mulgrew, Badr El Kaddouri, Andre Blackman.

Exactly.I’ve heard that KT is only a left back.Danny McGrain was only a right back.We should have sold him when he was in his early twenties😡
