Juggling the maximising your profits and building a team is a serious issue at CP.

If we kept Forster, VvD, Vic and the likes we might be able to compete at CL level.

Vicious circle I'm afraid.
Look how Ajax have faired doing the same. :(

That last line is out of order
Wasn't actually meant as a slight, just my opinion that he strikes me more as the kind that thinks more with his heart rather than his head. A few folk in here are looking at his decisions as cynical, whereas I just see a passionate young lad living in the moment, which explains the contradiction between past words and present actions. If true, of course.
Fair enough

If he thinks he'll win trophies at Everton then he'll literally be barking up the wrong tree.

Some of the reactions on this thread are highly unreasonable. Every team/player has their price and £25m along with a hefty sell on fee is fair. I think Everton is a good move for him at this stage rather than transferring to a Man Utd and seriously risk spending the next few years not getting a game (like Luke Shaw). Teirney isn't a household name and won't be given a game due to reputation. Selling him at £25m would set a new standard for us and let teams know the days of us accepting £10m fees for our best players are over.

My issue, as always, is that Celtic won't reinvest the money adequately and willl low-ball teams for notable replacements, miss out on targets and then settle for a low-quality SPL signing or loan for a journeyman has-been.

People have an issue with him going back on the spirit of his word and are doubly shocked/upset because it's so unexpected.

I'm firmly on the fence myself, but I hope this helps you overcome your absolutely genuine confusion as to why some folk are talking it hard and / or personal against the lad.
He’s not really in a position to give his word.

When a club accepts an offer of this magnitude, the player almost always moves on.

Sad to see him go, but I wish him no ill will. The boy might be good enough to eventually play in the CL final. He’ll never do that with us.
By all accounts he's forcing the club's hand, not the other way round. Can't exactly blame him if he's getting six figures a week, but it leaves a bitter taste.

I don't really get the "Everton ffs" posts when we've sold 2 or 3 better players to Southampton in the recent past.

Those players were expected to leave. Kieran has broken our hearts.

Tierney is a product of our youth system. Potentially the best talent we've produced in a generation. He's a highly effective left back in a game that is woefully short in that position.

Couple that with the number of major clubs that have been sniffing around him and keeping track of his progress, most people, or at least a lot of people see Everton as a bit below his promise, particularly when you look at the move that big coo Hutton got right out the gates.

I don't give two effs where he goes or how he plays. If we are punting KT I want 4/5 good first team players in el pronto . I want every effing bit of that 30/40m quid we've made this summer/jan spent on players . We'll still have our precious 30m in the bank and it'll give us a chance of making more.

I'll be effed if I'm going to see Jack Hendry and Ralston hanging on to some European winger like drunk guys getting off a bus. Or Johnny Hayes trying to kick it by Jordi Alba .

No effing sir.

Some of the reactions on here are hilarious. Stabbed in the back is a particular highlight.

I'll be gutted to lose Tierney, but if we're talking about a fee of 25+ million then I understand. This is our model. We constantly whine and moan about the likes of Porto and Ajax etc getting top dollar for their players yet when we do exactly what we should be, all of a sudden the word "traitor" and "greed" start getting chucked about.

This is the model. This is setting the precedent. This is what Celtic should be doing. Next it will be Dembele, or Eduoard, or Ntcham...or whoever. This is how it is. Until the landscape of football undergoes a drastic change and we can afford to turn down cash like this for our players then this is what we will do. Yes it's extra gutting because he's a proper celtic man and a top player but this is where we are.
People are gutted he’s willing to leave for Everton when he’s 21, they’re shampooe and we’re in the Champions League and looking to go for ten in a row. If it was a bigger club in a few years time, then it seems fair enough. The fee isn’t really the issue.
and the fact he gave it all the celtic man stuff.
Pretty sure he was being genuine, unless he was some evil wee guy who’d been setting up some long con forno reason whatsoever.

If Tierney wasnt a footballer he’d no doubt say the same as a lot of people on here - that he couldn’t leave Celtic, at least not befor 10IAR.

People can hypothesise all they want about what they would do, but no-one really knows unless they are in the situation. Footballers aren’t any different from everyone else, so theres no reason to think most people wouldn’t make the same decisions (follow the money) as players do.

If the player's pushing for this then it's a very sad state of affairs. Far too much badge kissing and talk of being a proper supporter for there to be any other emotion.

I get it if he's mid-20's and wanting the big bucks. And I don't buy this short career pish either. Aside from the money he's earning just now, if he got put out of the game tomorrow I'm sure he'd be well looked after by the club in the future regarding employment.

Ah well.

This.

I also have zero interest in whether him or his representatives are pushing it.

All well & good selling players for obscene money, but it’s pointless if we aren’t prepared when it comes to replacing them.

And that's the main issue for me. There is no way we would spend the 30 million on players and certainly not in this window.

We struggled for a fit right back last season and changed our defensive formation for no other reason than we didn't have one and we are currently trialing a free RB with two busted knees to address this when we are supposedly cash rich already.

Maybe shows how much faith the board has in the team reaching the group stages of the CL this season, punt your most valuable asset to cover the potential loss of CL money.
