Have we accepted the first bid that has come in? Seems strange to me. Unless Everton have bumped it up five or ten I dont get it.

Deal will have been discussed for weeks. Everton would have known exactly how much he would cost.

To be fair, he’s getting less stick than McStay did in his thread and he stayed with us and was retired nearly 20 years.
He hasn’t left yet. If he does, well, it’ll put all the megaphone action in perspective.

I said as much a few days ago.

Brendan Rodgers statement wasn't made in a vacuum. This has been in the works.

There's a way to leave a club like Celtic. This ain't it.
Especially after two and a bit years of playing Mr Celtic.

All this short career pish getting put about by the media, and a complient Mr Rodgers, comparing him to John Kennedy is especially unsavoury. Kennedy didnt have the security of a highly paid 6 year deal.
if he does want to leave it sounds like brendan was well aware of it and trying to make it easier for him to depart with good feeling from the fans with that interview

If you sign a 6-year deal, say its long-term then eff off at the first opportunity then you deserve all the crap from the fans you get. There are ways of doing things and that isn't it.
Could be that was done to maximise the transfer fee. No one knows what is going on in the back ground.
No no no no no. Stop this nonsense. Him signing a six year deal was done for secirity for himself not the club ffs. It wouldn't matter if he only had two, three or five years left. He didnt do the club any favours.
same with petrov. that seems to be stated as fact that he signed the new deal so we would get a good few even when he admitted that he changed his mind a few months later

Quoting limited to 3 levels deepthat ridiculous money though when you actually sit and do the maths.

About £25k for another 10 years if he is good enough to maintain that kind of form? £6.5m after tax. That has to last over what, 60 odd years of his remaining life? £100 odd grand a year. That's before buying a house, car, living expenses as a young footballer etc. It's hardly poverty but by the same token it's a long way off the kind of life he can have and leave for his family within just a few years of playing in the EPL. He'll be on a sign on fee alone that'll probably cover multiple years wages at Celtic.

Incredibly simplified but you get the point. I'll be as gutted as the rest but I'll never castigate the boy for choosing to secure his and his families lives over sentimentality.
I’m almost inclined to agree, but...

It will still leave a very bitter taste, as a direct result of the six year contract, GB leading, might be a one club man schtick.
I'm the same. But trying to be as rational as I can, he's still a very young lad from a less than glamorous upbringing
dont think thats the case with him tbf. not saying he was ritchie rich but he was hardly a scheme wain

Generally speaking, it’s much easier to replace a left-back than a top striker or influential central midfielder. In the right circumstances, pocketing £25 million for a full-back and reinvesting wisely could be terrific business - and is the sort of thing teams like Porto, Benfica and Ajax do all the time. The problem here though is that the timing is diabolical and I don’t think anyone really trusts our recruitment to reinvest the money well. As someone mentioned earlier, the doomsday scenario is that the cash ends up being used to cover what we could miss out on if we fail to qualify for the CL group stages.

Aye, which makes it sound all the worse. If KT wants to go, and I understand why anyone would, fine but none of this pish to make it easy for him now in the hope that one day he'll grace us with his signature again. Be honest. The boy prefers cash now than being a Celtic legend.

I guess having three guys on your coaching team who had earlier career ending injuries doesn`t help but we can`t blame them if he wants to go.

You go for money or ambition or both. We may be getting that astronomical fee Brendan talked about but for me he was a "money in the bank" kind of player, like Dembele, VVD, Victor in that he was only going to get better and his range of choices and value improve. Unlike them as a "diehard" you expected a longer stay,it`s not like he was going to miss out on the zillions if he didn`t go now.....then he looks at the bench.
