Larsson says he did.
Ferguson says he didn't.

""Ferguson said: “I could have signed him earlier. I was ready to make the bid when he was at Celtic but Dermot Desmond, Celtic’s majority shareholder, rang me and said, ‘You’ve let me down, Alex, you’ve got tons of players, we need him.’”"
I'm only going by the quote attributed to Larsson, which is that he did have a chance to go there.

Ye. Think he had the chance. Don't think any bid was made though.

The exact same conversation took place on here when Southampton came in for Wanyama and VVD.

The fact is it's a stepping stone for the player to demonstrate they can cut it in the EPL - once they have then a top 4 club will come in for them.

Tierney's agent will have told him that as long as he performs as we all think he can, his stay at Everton will probably only be a couple of years.

Celtic are used as a stepping stone by some of the foreign players we buy but I wouldn’t imagine Tierney would use celtic as a stepping stone.Of course the epl has more appeal than the spl but the main appeal is the money. When there wasn’t a great gap in the finances between us and the epl under MON we could attract players from the epl and larsson knocked back Man U to stay with us which wouldn’t happen today.
I meant that a move to a mid ranking club like Southampton or Everton is a stepping stone - not accusing Tierney of using Celtic in that way.

Of course money is a major motivation but whether we like it or not, the gap between the 2 leagues in terms of profile, excitement, quality of player, is a chasm. I wouldn't begrudge a player from wanting to sample that in his career.

The hope would be that Tierney would come back to us in the future and finish his career up here.

They were poised the other day and now they're just readying? FFS tomorrow they'll be pondering or considering.

Remember when Tierney said "I just signed a 6 year deal, so if that doesnt say long term, I don't know what does." I genuinely believe there are Celtic fans who want this to be true because they'd prefer the club had the money. Just WEESHT.

Everton are keen to sign Celtic's Kieran Tierney and are expected to make an approach to the Scottish champions over a possible transfer.

The 21-year-old defender is one of the players Everton have identified as new manager Marco Silva seeks to reshape his squad.

Tierney still has five years of a lucrative contract left at Celtic.

But Everton are believed to be prepared to offer in the region of £25m for the Scotland international.

Celtic, though, have no desire to sell the player and Tierney himself is in no hurry to leave.

Their first competitive match against Alashkert in the Champions League first qualifying round takes place on 10 July, with the return leg in Glasgow seven days later.

Tierney has made 130 Celtic appearances, scoring seven times, and has been capped by his country on nine occasions. He has captained both Celtic and Scotland and has operated primarily at left-back but also in central defence. He has won three Premiership titles and three domestic cups with Celtic.

I still don't think he will move

Sounds like bollix from Ferguson to me, as that's the exact same story Desmond tells about Miller. Although obviously it didn't stop Ferguson making the move.

In the end, Desmond's pals sold United to the Glazers.

Didn't we go through this last summer and winter with Dembele? Are there people in our club actively leaking stuff in the hope that our players move on?

From reading here it seems that the club are not the issue here but it is the player himself who is forcing the move.

Gutted about this, first time in a long time I felt I have truly had something in common with a player on the park. I take it he hasn't came out and put an end to any rumours? Seems to me he maybe wants away. If that is the case I'd rather he just went. I hope any player coming through the youth ranks who are fans keep their mouths shut instead of giving it laldy about being pure mad tims and talking up their long contract, we know it is all crap and so do they really.
